Prologue

In a sun covered field with a small river flowing through it, the Father and Son sat together. Enjoying the freedom that was in front of them.

The father, an old and experienced looking man, sat in peace as he observed his Son enjoying himself in the nature around him. He watched in tranquility as this peace unfolded in front of him.

The Son, a young child, no more than 8 years old, played in the field outside their house, running in and out of the nearby river and discovering and meddling with various elements of nature.

This was the life the Father had earned after a long and hard life, and this was the life the young boy desired to have for the rest of his life. It was freedom in the truest of senses.

“Hey Retto, come over here. I need to tell you something.” The father called out to his son, beckoning him over.

The small child ran over, with a smile on his face. His short brown hair swayed in the slight wind as he ran.

“What is it dad?”

“Here, take a seat.” The man patted the floor beside him, inviting his son to sit down. “Do you remember? I told you I would tell you about the Dungeon when you were ready.”

The boys eyes shot up in surprise as his smile widened further than it was before. The bright, naïve sense of intrigue was visible to everyone from his eyes, but the father already knew this was going to be the result. He was the one that had raised him, of course he knew what would happen.

“I think you are finally ready to learn about it.”

“Tell me, tell me already.”

Retto’s curiosity was getting the better of him. He couldn’t wait any longer, after all, his father would finally reveal the mystery of the Hole that was in the ground.

Ever since Retto was a young child, he had been forbidden to go to the hole in the ground by his father. He had said, he wasn’t ready yet, and that in due time he would tell him anything.

This was hard on Retto, as he wanted to explore it more than anything. Who knows, he might have even had an adventure if he went.

But every time he snuck out, his father would catch him and bring him back to the house.

But none of that mattered right now, the time had finally come for the father to explain everything to his son. And with a smile on his face, he began.

“The Dungeon is a wonderous place, full of mystery, thrill and most importantly adventure. It is filled with beings you wouldn’t even be able to imagine, landscapes that defy nature, and beauty beyond that of gods. The Dungeon is the dream of any and all adventurers, no matter what their goals may be.”

The boy’s eyes shined brightly as he heard of the wonders of the Dungeon.

“Did you also go on adventures?” with shining eyes the boy asked.

“Of course I did. I went on countless adventures, saw things that I can’t explain, experienced happiness, sadness, loss, gain, and much more I can’t even begin to describe. And all of this I did with my most trustworthy and loyal friends that I made along the way.”

“Did you fight strong enemies?”

“Plenty. There were times when I thought there was no way I would be able to win, but my friends were with me, and I was able to pull through in the end.”

“What about treasure, did you find any?”

“Treasure? We had too much of it at some point. We had to leave it behind to be able to continue moving on.”

“Wow…”

The boy was speechless, his imagination was wild, but hearing about the wonders and possibilities of the Dungeon, even he couldn’t begin to imagine what it must be like to adventure in there.

“And what else, tell me about the adventure’s you had in the Dungeon.”

Retto couldn’t hold himself back, he wanted to hear everything his father was about to tell him. From tales of wonder, to those of loss. He wanted to listen to the adventure’s his father went on.

“Yes, yes, I will tell you everything shortly. But before I start, I have a question.” The father looked at his son seriously and stared into his eyes. “Do you also want to enter the Dungeon?”

Without even a second of hesitation, Retto answered, his eyes still shining as brightly as they did earlier. “Yes!”

“Good, we must start your training then. The stories come after.”

The boy instantly stood up and screamed toward the sky.

“I will have an adventure in the Dungeon! Wait for me!”

And with that, the father and son began the long and arduous task of preparing for the Dungeon. His son was still weak and had done no training prior, so there was a lot of work ahead of him. But even then, the father could not help but laugh at the face of someone that still had his dreams to follow.
