Destined departure: Twins' farewell to Caladan

Paul woke up and came to the kitchen for breakfast. Lady Jessica was already sitting there, waiting for his son. As Paul took his place, Jessica started to talk about the usage of the Voice:

- Paul, you need to train your Voice power every day to keep it-

- Mom, I know it, you tell me about it almost every day, - said Paul, knowing his mother's concern for his superpower.

Meanwhile Clary walked in:

- Good morning! Paul, did you sleep well? – asked calmly, knowing he didn't as they had the same dream, in which both of them were killed by a mysterious girl (Chani) in Arrakis.

- I was a bit scared but now I'm okay... – Paul answered with a smiling face to make his sister sure that these dreams didn't affect his mood.

Suddenly one of the soldiers came and told Jessica that Leto Atreides was sent an urgent edict by the Emperor Shaddam IV. Jessica turned to the children:

- Seems like the Emperor wants to give your father an important duty...

At first, Leto was full of doubt about the decree but lately, acknowledging the importance of Arrakis he decided to accept the offer. He gathered the children and Lady Jessica and told them about the purpose of it:

- The Emperor wants to transfer the control of Arrakis from House Harkonnen to us. I know it is-

- Dad, it's a maneuver to destroy us, you know it, right? – said Clary with a surprised face.

- I am aware of the potential trap, but we cannot deny the fact that taking control of Arrakis is a great honor for us. So, now we have to leave our planet - Caladan and move to Arrakis! – Leto commanded his family in a bit worried tone.

The Atreides started to prepare for departure, while Jessica was thinking about the significance of Paul and Clary's superpower as she wanted her son to be the only potential leader to rule Atreides dynasty after Leto. Clary had never thought about it, her goal was to become the greatest fighter in the universe. But sometimes she was feeling bad because of Jessica's hate for her. Although she raised Clary up, she never showed real maternal love to her...

Clary was on the balcony, drowning in deep thoughts, while suddenly Paul came up:

- What are you doing here? Oh, wait! You are searching for new techniques to be a better fighter than me, aren't you? – he asked in a humorous way to make her smile.

But she wasn't smiling, she didn't even answer. Seeing and telepathically feeling her sadness, Paul became serious:

- I'm not even going to ask you if you are okay or not because as you know, I can feel it. Now tell me what happened!

- Lady Jessica...

- She insulted you again?! – Paul got mad.

- No, she didn't. My problem is that I just don't know what mother love is. Even though Lady Jessica looked after me throughout my whole childhood, I never received love from her. But of course, it's impossible to love your son and stepdaughter equally, - Clary took a deep breath.

Stolen story; please report.

- Listen, Clary! You have all the rights to hate her back, but you don't do it, which is because you have a heart of gold, and-

- I don't want to detest her, Paul. If only she would hug me just once, - said Clary, slowly bursting into tears.

- You are right... Come here, - Paul hugged her, his eyes filling with tears.

Meanwhile, Jessica was hiding in a corner, watching them. Listening to their conversation, she somehow felt bad for Clary.

- I didn't know she loved and needed you that much, my Lady, - whispered servant Nyra.

Jessica glowered at her, knowing she was completely right. They went to Jessica's room together, and Nyra continued to pack things. Suddenly, she spoke up:

- My Lady, does anyone except me and Gaius Helen Mohiam (the Bene Gesserit Reverend Mother) know about your secret?

- No, – Jessica suspiciously looked at her, - why are you asking?

- Umm, I am just curious about what would happen if Clary and Paul found out that u-

- Nyra, don't even dare to talk about it! You saw it by chance, and you were so lucky that I didn't kill you then...

The importance and potential risks of moving to Arrakis were being discussed by Duke Leto Atreides and his advisors, including Thufir Hawat and Duncan Idaho. Leto was frequently holding council meetings for it, during which they were also talking about the future of spice production. During this time, Baron Vladimir Harkonnen (House Harkonnen leader) continuously sabotaged and spied the House Atreides to weaken them before they arrive on Arrakis.

One of the briefings was being held, while Duncan anxiously came in:

- Duke Leto, we found a spy in our palace. He was pretending to be a servant the whole time.

- Take him to the imprisonment chamber, he surely has something to tell us.

The twins weren't standing aside, either. They were training in strategy, combat and the use of the Voice all day and night. Jessica was helping Paul personally, while Clary was getting lessons only from her mentors. Along with the guides, there were some other skilled people who assisted Paul and Clary's training process. One of them was Gurney Halleck (the troubadour-warrior). He was teaching them special tactics of fighting, providing them with special instructions. Dr. Wellington Yueh, the Suk doctor, not only supported them medically but also took care of their mental and physical resilience. But even all these efforts were not enough to deal with the twins' dreams. Every night they were having dreamscapes about Arrakis, the Fremen (the indigenous people of Arrakis) and a mysterious beautiful girl (Chani). These dreams were the sign of their destiny, which meant that all ways led them to Arrakis...

                                                                                           ***

It was already time to say goodbye to Caladan for Atreides family. Duke Leto decided to visit his favorite place on the planet (the seaside) for the last time with his children. He brought them near the sea, and they started to watch the beautiful scenery. Paul said:

- I will miss this place; it reflects our childhood.

- Yeah, we were dreaming of creating more seas on Caladan. But we never realized that it's in the power of nature, how childish we were, - Clary laughed remembering their fantasy as a child.

Leto smiled and told them to come closer to him, the signet ring of House Atreides gleaming on his finger:

- Listen, - he became serious, - this ring represents the legacy of House Atreides. It also shows our responsibility and authority over our people.

Paul and Clary were quietly listening to their dad. Leto handed the ring to Paul and continued:

- Paul will hold it, - he put Clary's hand on the ring, - and Clary will protect it.

- But shouldn't only one of us be in charge? – Clary said, surprised.

- I know, it's an unwritten rule, but you will break it. Together, you will ensure the strength of our house, Paul with his superpower and wisdom, and Clary with her battle strategy and unmatched prowess. The Atreides dynasty will have two legendary leaders.

- We got it, Father, - Paul proudly looked at Clary, who was full of honor.

- Great. Remember one thing, we are stronger when we stand together. Life on Arrakis won't be easy, but I have faith in both of you, - Leto said, embracing his children.

Finally, the farewell began; all the members of the Atreides family, along with their servants, friends, warriors, mentors, and guides, left the planet with tears and heavy hearts. They boarded the Guild Heighliner, the massive vessel that would transport them to Arrakis. Everyone was filled with concern, as the future on Arrakis remained a mystery...
