C1 - Rainbow city - The dark side.

C1 - Rainbow city - The dark side.

A great city stood on a side of the mountain – its gigantic walls defending its inhabitants from any danger or foe, that would try to hurt them. Generations built this town and generations will continue to build it. The first ones, were the mountain people, to begin the building... soon seing the potential and riches within this still growing city – dwarves and gnomes joined into building it. Time passed and with it more and more races and creatures joined their effort to build this one city – a sanctuary to them all, a neutral ground where everyone was equal. Each one of them adding a little bit of their own culture to the city.

It has already been milennia since the city came to be, sun was rising from the side of the mountain, pouring its rays over the still sleeping city. Merchants and businessmen began to slowly wake up, the light of the sun waking them.

A guard was ending his shift on the wall, he turned around to look at this beautiful view of his home city... Three gigantic wheels were spinning under the great waterfall, that was flowing from the side of the mountain, the city was built at. Its water was splattering and spraying all around, making the central square all wet and slippery – the children of this guard loved to play there. His hearth filled with serenity and the warm feeling of love while he watched over the city he loved so much. It was beautiful, as sun began to shine more brightly – a rainbow appeared over the waterfall.

The guard greeted his colleague, who took his position and headed home.. what a splendid morning this is was on his mind.

This guard, who took the place of his colleague checked his equipment, checked the bells and everything else. With a smile he was satisfied, everything was in order, how it should be. Humming a warm and relaxed tune he began to look over the walls into the great forests growing in front of the city, into the farm lands with many farmers living there... as much as he could see he saw fields of corn and other vegetables growing. Taking out a special magical device he magnified his view and checked the forests and the roads that were near them.. nothing unusual. Continuing to him his tune he greeted his superior walking past his post inspecting, shook his hand and continued to be on watch.

A few streets away from the wall, one young kid woke up just recently – too feeling wonderfully, it was his twelfth summer alive, and he began working recently – as a mailman and a delivery boy. For such a young man running around wasnt hard and since he knew the city well it was a good job, that allowed him to have some pocked money. He hopped out of his bed, quickly got something to wear and grabbed a bite from what was left on the table – his mother was up already and preparing breakfast for his family. She just wished him luck, while he ran out of the house, warmly smiling behind – just wishing him luck.

When outside the house, he took his pendant that hung on his neck and activated it.. magic circle formed under him – making him nearly weightless. He smiled.. he liked the feeling of wind going trough his hair as he ran so light...

As the boy ran trough the city he saw, how businessmen opened their shops – some set up simple wood stalls, others had more expensive carts – that were like a small shop on wheels... As he ran further, now not too far from the post, he passed and old orc blacksmith – this grumpy old man was hammering his iron so early in the morning, like there was no tomorrow.. his neighbors hate him for that... yet they never complained – he was the best blacksmith after all and there is nothing, that a little cotton in the ears couldnt help with, some capable of magic even used some sound barrier spells to sleep well early in the morning, where these barriers were set up – the windows shimmered as if an invisible wall was in front of them.

In front of the city gates a group of five was gathering – the patrol group. Four of them were young, no more than twenty five, while their superior – a sergeant was at least thirty years old veteran.

The man insulted his subordinates, shouted at them and made them feel like kids in front of an angry old orc.. witch he was. But he wasnt doing that with ill intent and they knew that. It was all for their own good, to keep them safe – patrol duty is no joke after all.

The giant and beautiful gate that was in front of them opened, just enough for them to leave in a line. Right outside the city they began to jog in a pace set by their sergeant, all singing a simple song after them.. it wasnt really a military one, just a little dirty and mood lifting one, that would squeeze a laugh out of them from time to time, to keep their morale high. Outside the gates they all activated their magic pendants it was going to be a long and hot day after all.

They left following the river first, then turned towards the forest after a few kilometers. On the road they have found a few beasts – nothing much, nothing they couldnt handle... a few wolves, some magic twisted forest animals... nothing too serious. They continued running around the city – soon they will come to the mountain side where a few farmers and herbalists live.

This small group of houses, behind the city walls was called the “plant heaven” because plants were precious here – two houses belonged to herbalists, one to a skilled farmer – who thought that growing healing plants can never be a bad business, and all the ones left – to the hunters who stayed close to the nearby forest – not wanting to wait for the gates to open every morning.

This city was called “Rainbow city”. Its name obviously came from the rainbow, that was always above the city. It was a neutral city, one of the few of this kind in this continent. Being a trade city it was prosperous and being built on the side of the lonely mountain, just a few miles away from a major crossroad sure helped. To the north of the city was another city – the port city “Crystal coast” its name self explanatory. To the south of the city in great ancient forests lived elves and werebeasts.. with a few other races. To the east there was the great golden desert as many called them.. behind it was the kingdom of the nomads and its name was “Spakalia”. On the west side of the city many, many kilometers away were great mountains.. their peaks white with snow, and their wallies rich with natural resources as well as many valuable beasts and minerals. People called it simply - “the Peak lands”.

This world was created by the true god, as people called him his name was Jud. But they just called him god, thinking – that saying his name out loud would offend him.

Jud was one and only true god – he came as the very first being of the existence... his power was absolute, he was eternal. Being alone is lonely. So Jud made worlds that he filled with life, each of them different from one another and each of them unique. But this one world could be called his jewel – many races coexisting together, world itself beautiful beyond praise.

He had spent a lot of time making this world, thinking it over and over.. creating the balance. To keep this ever shifting balance he created the “Divine System” or DS to say simply. This system tried to keep balance, as much as possible. One thing it did – was that it allowed the inhabitants of this world absorb mana into themselves – making themselves stronger. Another thing it brought to the world itself – was magic and ability to cast it. But the most important thing was the Mark.

Each living being in this world had it – be it a beast, a simple animal or one of the sentient races... they all had it. This mark was a tool – tool that made it possible for them to use magic and mana. It displayed the one bearing it strength and information, it also allowed for that person to control the magic circulation withing his body. But it wasnt all that it did, it contained the memories and strength of the one bearing it – so if one chose, he could grant his strength to another on such an occasion the one who was left without a mark would die, while the other one would have his mark absorb the other ones mark. One would also be able to absorb the mark of the pray he has killes, or a beast he has slain. Aster a blood duel – one would get a mark of his defeated foe. If it was agreed to be the prize.

Back in the “rainbow” city, three elders were sitting in a balcony a few meters above the little square in the city hearth. They were playing a game to pass their time, while discussing the matters of ruling this city.

In the center of the square was a big rectangular block that was all full of symbols and emitted a faint glow. In the corners of the square were trees, each different but full of bird nests. A small water way was made around the rectangular block, with a few small fountains here and there in the square.

While these elders were having a good time, a strange sound began to fill the square... a low humming sound. Each of these elders knew, what it meant and stood up to get a better view at the block. With a few commands their servants went down to the block waiting.

Slowly in the middle of the block a white sphere began to shimmer into existence.

Somewhere in a different world, where pollution could be seen everywhere and corruption was all over the world a lonely figure of a man could be seen on a tall building. This man was nothing special, maybe even less than average – he was overweight, had no muscle on him, wore glasses and was dressed in old, baggy clothing that made him look even more overweight. His height didnt help either.. we was barely 1.65cm. But this look of his.. it was all his own doing, he knew that but he just couldnt make himself change.. he didnt have enough willpower to do it. He spent his days eating unhealthy food, indulging himself in games and other things that didnt really matter. Not caring about a thing in the world. He was selfish, arrogant and stupid.

Because of his own stupidity this man has lost everything, having nothing.. no access to his games to his unhealthy food anymore because of lack of money. He had decided to end his life.. hoping, that he will have a better one in the other world.

And so the man jumped down from the tall building.. wind flowing past him, the ground coming closer and closer he closed his eyes, when an unusual sound rang somewhere all around him and reached his ears.

//Dang!!//

You are given a choice of starting a new life by the god Jud.

Do you want to start a new life?

This man was out of time – the ground was close. He shouted “Yesssss...” as his body impacted the ground. The people all around the spot where his mangled and now dead body was didnt even care. They simply avoided it, as to not get their clothes and shoes stained by the blood.

But the man didnt care anymore – he was already far away, hawing his life dream being fulfilled – being reborn somewhere else.

Where he was now, was a strange place – it was a dark room, lit by a flying orb of light. He himself had no body, just a bunch of windows like the one before appearing in front of him.

Welcome to your new life. This room you are currently in is where you will select your new life options.

For example - your gender, your race and traits. So to say your customization as if inside a game.

Be sure, this is not a game and you will have to live with the choices you make, so choose wisely.

The man smiled, this was truly like inside of a game. He didnt get the time to think more as another window popped in existence in front of him.

Choose your new gender.Male(Hard). --- Female(Easy).

He didnt really understand what was that Hard and Easy that was written near the options, but he was sure of one thing – he didnt want to be a female.. birthing kids, washing clothes and other household chores werent what he desired of this new life of his. So he went with the male option.

Choose your name.

A new window popped just as he selected male. Now, this window was a hard one.. Name isnt something you can decide on easily. And knowing, that it will be permanent.. he didnt want to sound lame. He had a lame name in his previous life.. and that was not an experience he wished to repeat. After a long time of thinking, weighting pros and cons of one name or the other.. he finally decided on one.

Nalfaz. That was his new name from now on, it meant nothing and just sounded good, as he thought, that was what a good name has to do.

Choose your race please. You can choose one race from the available ones, or a random one.

Be warned, that when choosing a random race - it will be completely random, meaning no influance from you or the system.

If you choose a random race, you can be teleported to a location where that race can survive.

You have been warned.Random race.

(Your appearance, except for your gender will be generated randomly.)

(Your stats and skills will be generated according to the race you will get.)

(Whatever race you receive, you will gain a boost in your fertility.)Elf based races.Werebeast based races.Halflings.Construct races.Draconians.Spirits.Troll based races.Mountain people.Lamia and Naga races.Demon races.

Now, this was the option list he was waiting for! His race! A new race, a new start.. a new name! And he was sure as hell, he wont be a human ever again.. humans were cruel beings. He hated them from the depth of his hearth.

As Nalfaz looked at this list.. he was happy.. for one there was no human race.. there were many races, with even more sub races and even more sub sub races.. he was in heaven. Or so.. he had thought.

He didnt know how much time has passed since he chose his race.. but he was sure as hell, that it was a lot. He had a dilemma, one even harder, than choosing his name! Because of so many options he was unable to choose one of them. For example lets look at some of the races, that he thought would be excellent choices.

Elf race. This race is nimble and agile, they live in great forests and are great hunters.

Elfs are blessed with nature affinity, every single one of them can mannipulate plants to some extent.

Elfs gain a 25% boost to their abbilities and stats inside of a forest.

Once a day and elf can call uppon the blessing of a forest - growing a plant or a tree of their choice in their location (usable only on fertile dirt.).

If he chose to become and elf.. well, he would be an amazing hunter for sure, or he could become a botanist! Plants have always fascinated him.

Dwarf race. They are small and sturdy, rarely does a Dwarf grow above 155cm.

But their small stature is compensated by their sturdy build. They are the muscle lovers of the world, even orcs can be put to shame, watching a Dwarf that focuses on growing his muscles.

Their above average muscularity has gifted these mountain lovers with unparalleled ability to resist psychical injuries.

Living usaully on mountains and in cold places, or deep undergroud - has given this race a hairy body that will keep you warm, no matter the cold (it is not recommended to wenture to deserts).

The narrative has been taken without permission. Report any sightings.

Dwarf's have an inborn ability to shape metals. There are no better blacksmiths than them.

Dwarf's, he couldnt really imagine himself being one.. the height.. well he already had a complex about his height before and reading a dwarfs description made him think - “was I a dwarf in my previous life?”. Though the bonuses of the race were amazing.. despite that warning about the deserts.

He continued to check other races... Hobbits were interesting because of their ability to see riches all around them and find business opportunities. Draconians, could literally smell gems – really an odd race. Constructs were races, that lived feeding on mana and he didnt like the idea, to be unable to eat normal food. Werebeasts.. well there were as many of their races as there were animals, so it was hard to choose from. Demons.. well... he thought that maybe no..

I the end, he decided to go with the random option – let everything to chance. Even if he gets a race he didnt want, he already has gotten a second chance and he really couldnt ask for more.

So he did – he chose the random option.

For a second nothing happened, then everything began to spin. The room he was in faded out of his view and it all became dark. After that he felt something, he could only describe as the wildest roller coaster ride he has ever rode. But as quickly as it all happened, it all ended.

Nalfaz felt something cool beneath him, he again felt that he had limbs.. maybe more of them than he had before. His vision was still a little unfocused, but he managed to sit up. As his vision focused, in front of himself he saw people – no, they were not humans. There was an armored man in the group with eyes like cats and horns protruding from his head, there was a woman who looked like a cat. There was a group of scaled people also, who all wore the same clothes – probably an uniform.

He looked around himself, there were people on all sides – all looking at him. So he looked at himself too.

He was naked, in this new life he had a bronze skin, some of his body was covered with light fur, that had a somewhat reddish and bluish color all at once. His chest was covered with fur, his arms below elbows too, so were his legs below his knees. His nether region had this strange fur too.. and his member was fully exposed for every persons eyes, that was gathered here. Feeling embraced, he tried to cover his greatly above average friend... but when he put his arms above it, a moment later he was shocked. On top of his arms tails began to appear one after another, coming from his back. They all had the same color as his fur. He tried moving them and was able to do so somewhat – he still needed to practice.

As he was playing with his tails a woman approached him – she had some features of a cat, no more maybe that of a tiger. He looked at her wide eyed, but she just smiled and murmured something.

A second later, he felt his eyelids becoming heavy and sleep taking him over.

===Some time ago.===

The three elders in the balcony looked at this sphere that had appeared just seconds before. It slowly expanded until, it disappeared and in it s place a person was left lying there on the block. At first the person didnt move, then it sat upright and began looking around. Once it found out to be naked it seemed shocked. But one of the maids – Lilia, the head maid put this person to sleep.

--So, a werebeast huh? Saw the ears? The tail?

--Mhmmm.. Yes, sure looks like one, probably some animal species or a variant.

--Nine tails huh? A fox descendant maybe?

The elders continued to speak with one another, until the person was carried out of the square. Once he was out, they sat down to finish their game.

--So, Marcus it is your turn I believe?

--Seems so, unless one of you old fools want to take him?

--I think I will pass, my clan has few werebeasts.. and even those are mostly adopted.

--I will pass too, he didnt look like an arcane type.

--Oh well, it seems I will have to take care of him.

Marcus, one of these elders was an old man – ha himself was a werebeast with a noble tiger blood flowing withing his veins. With a gesture he called one of the servants to attend him.

--Inform me, when our new guest will wake up. Prepare clothes and food for him. Oh, and also... send a message to my son, he is to send one of his daughters to me.

--Yes my lord Marcus.

The servant nodded and quickly left to fulfill his masters orders.

===Withing the guest quarters of the Elder Marcus mansion.===

Nalfaz woke up. His eyes shot open, and his last memories before he fell asleep flashed trough his eyes. He was put to sleep – he was sure of that. But before he could think of anything more a bluish window appeared in front of him.

Welcome to your new life.

To access your status and skills, touch your mark.

(your mark can be found where your hearth is.)

He looked at his chest and truly, there was a strange tattoo. It was round and filled with symbols that seemed to glow. Carefully he tried to touch it.

He looked at the table in front of him, not understanding a thing. One thing was clear.. he was stupid. The other table, that showed something like his skills though, was quite interesting.

Skill/Ability/Trait name:Description:Blue Fox blood(Trait.).You are stronger, fater and more resistant than any other fox race.

Now, this was interesting.. seriously he didnt know how powerful he was, but he thought he was quite a bit.

Door to his room opened and a person entered. He wore on of the uniforms Nalfaz has seen before.

--Hello young one, the master is calling for you. Please dress up and meet him. I will be waiting behind the door, when you are ready call me.

He didnt even get a chance to say anything, the man was gone as quickly as he has walked in.

Looking around, he found clothes on a nearby chair. They were just the right size for him. Dressing up was fun, there was a mirror on the opposite wall to the doors, that he hasnt noticed before. With these clothes he looked like some kind of nobility form old movies. White shirt, black pants.. he didnt wear the boots, it felt somehow wrong to wear them. Maybe because his body was different?

He again looked at the mirror, to get a better view at his new self. In the mirror stood a 1.90cm tall young man. He was slim, not unlike his previous self. His eyes were nothing like that of a humans, he had the eyes of a cat golden in color, with bluish color incorporated into them. His body looked fit and muscular, slim yes but not too slim.. he actually looked agile. What attracted his attention was actually his tails... they moved like he wanted them to move, as if they were a new limb of his and they really were. He could easily control them all at once, but he needed to focus to control them each differently at the same time. He looked at his hands, his nails were different – they were sharp and a little curved. He unconsciously tried extending them and they extended a little maybe half a centimeter, but still they became the best weapons a nature could provide to one self. The same nails were on his feet.

Finally ready, he left the room and found that servant from before waiting for him.

--Are you ready young one? How should your humble servant call you?

--Yes im ready, my name is Nalfaz.

--Very well Nalfaz, then please follow me.

He just nodded and walked after this servant. They didnt walk for long, just a few turns and corridors away, maybe a minute away was a big hall.

There inside of it, in a small throne sat one old man, he clearly was that of a Tiger descent and he looked majestic. Gold and red colored clothes looked good on him, he had that aura of a nobility around him, the throne too was carved with forest motives, there were scenes of hunts and battles carved on it too.

Near this throne, that he was lead to was a werebeast woman kneeling too, with her face turned to that person on the throne. While he couldnt see her face, her figure already looked alluring to him.

As he got closer to the throne, the man sitting in it nodded to him and greeted him.

--Welcome to our world young... ?

--Nalfaz, my name is Nalfaz. Pleased to meed you.. ?

--Marcus, im pleased to meed you too Nalfaz, a strange name you have, but non the less it is a pleasure to see such a polite youth... unlike some.

Marcus eyes wondered to the woman kneeling in front of his throne. Nalfaz too looked at her, she looked to be shaking a little bit.. but he couldnt understand why. He still couldnt see her face.

--So, again I welcome you to our world Nalfaz, I would like to discuss some important matters with you... first of all could you tell me your exact race?

--I am Blue fox nine tailed variant.

--Oh, just as the other guessed. What are your goals Nalfaz?

--Thats quite a good question. I dont really know yet.. for now all I want is to have a peaceful life.

--I see..Well, as an elder that is in charge of you I would like you to gift with a bride. My own grand daughter – Kamila. Also I welcome you to our clan.

Nalfaz was shocked.. maybe even more than shocked.. he couldnt find words to describe this feeling. But he knew one thing – this wasnt right. This woman here, trembling.. why? If you were to be sacrificed to someone, would you be trembling.. fearing for your own future?

--I refuse.

Marcus arched an eyebrow. Then furrowed his eyebrows and looked at Nalfaz.

--And why would you refuse?

--I do not know your grand daughter and I can see that she doesnt really like the idea of being married of to a complete stranger. And this clan of your doesnt interest me at all. All I want is to explore this new world I am at and find my peaceful life.

--But making an enemy out of my clan wont bring you peace, nor refusing my generosity.

--Maybe, but I choose my own path. I have once made a mistake and let others choose it for me.

--Big words young man. Guards, take him to a cell and give him some time to think how to make the right decision.

From shadows of the room people emerged, they were four – each standing in a different corner of a room. Without warning, or hesitation they attacked Nalfaz.

Time seemed to slow down, as the four guards began their attack. Even having no combat experience Nalfaz easily evaded them. While they were still continuing their movements he was looking around already evaded, he wondered what to do... he could see how a look of surprise was appearing on the elder Marcus face. These guards continued their attack – turning around they dashed at him again, now with weapons.

They still looked like moving in slow motion to him, Nalfaz decided to disarm them. He grabbed one with a dagger and hit his wrist to make him drop his weapon, but unexpectedly.. he broke the mans wrist. Turning to another one he tried to be more careful and just pushed the man into the wall. With these two out of the fight everything began to move faster, quite a bit faster. Now avoiding the two left wasnt easy. Nalfaz managed to kick one more of the guards into the wall, but that cost him quite a big wound at his side. The other one now was moving fast.

Still not recovered from the pain, Nalfaz was forced to the ground, with his hands behind his back and a knife at his throat.

The elder sat there, with a few sweat drops forming on his forehead, but now calmer than he was before.

--You are dangerous Nalfaz. I dont thing I have the freedom to give you time to improve. So you either accept my previous offer or you die. Choose.

He knelt there silent. Fury in his eyes making holes with his look at the old man... but he didnt want to end his new life so early.

--Fine.. I accept.

The old man grinned at him – pleased with his decision. He was about to say something, but the woman that was kneeling in front of him jumped a dagger in her hand... with a quick movement she stabbed her dagger right into the center of Nalfaz's chest.

She was now in front of him, holding that dagger in his chest, grinning with a savage grin. She knelt in front of him and whispered into his ear.

--You might accept, but I wont.~~

Second later she was thrown into the wall by the furious elder.

--You stupid little girl! Just like your mother you dont understand nothing at all! Do you even realize what you have done?!

The elder was furious. But a strange sound was heard from behind him... like a man screaming out of fear. The elder was about to hit his granddaughter... but he couldnt move his arm. Looking at it he found that Nalfaz was standing and holding it.

Blood was dripping from a corner of his mouth, his golden blue eye color was exchanged with blood red. With one hand on his chest, gripping the dagger that was firmly embedded into his chest he slowly began to pull it out. It was made to kill people, with a barbed blade. But he was slowly pulling it out.

The dagger fell on the ground and blood spurted out from the wound on his chest.

--You fool! What are you doing! You will die! Stop this instant, we can still save you!

--No need... Blood boil.

Steam began pouring from Nalfaz's body, his red eye color intensified and the wound on his chest began to close. He stood there for a moment before it closed, with the elder looking at him wide eyed. Then he let the elders hand go, who from the sudden action fell on his butt.

Nalfaz took a stance, demonstratively clenched his fist and punched at the stomach of the woman. His face now was in a similar position, as hers before... and he whispered into her ear.

--Yes you will. This is going to be so much fun.

The woman gasped for air, as small amount of blood left her mouth, still looking at Nalfaz she fell unconscious.
