Dream Scaper
PART 1: The Dreamers Disease
Chapter 1: A Life Without Dreams
It was a cool fall morning and Nate’s alarm clock was blaring in his ear. Even though it was only 8 am and Nate’s first class wasn’t until 11:15 am, he still set his alarm for 8, or else his roommate Eddie would never get up for his 9:30 class. Nate’s day begins with his obnoxious alarm blaring and him dragging Eddie out of bed. That’s how Nate’s morning usually starts, but today was unfortunately different for Nate at least.
*Yawn* “Oh man that was a rough night,” Nate says on the floor of his college dorm room with all of his sheets and pillows spread out on his bed and on the floor covering himself.
He reaches for his alarm clock and repeatedly punches it until it stops making the noise. As Nate attempts to climb back up onto his bed he notices a cell phone pointing right at him with a smirking Eddie holding it.
“Ahaha what nightmare did you go through to end up like that in the morning Nate?”
“Why are you up now?”
“You see... I never went to bed. Got to love all-nighters and black coffee!” Eddie says with a sarcastic tone.
“Geez.”
“Oh and say hi to all my followers!” Eddie says as he takes a picture of Nate still sprawled out on the floor looking like a mess.
Eventually, the 2 get ready for their day and go off to get some food before Eddie’s class.
*Yawn* “oh geez I’m gonna totally pass out during my chemistry class,” Eddie says attempting to stay awake and keep his eyes open. “I’m gonna *Yawn* need more black coffee...”
“You are going to overdoes on black coffee if you have any more, and besides can’t you just skip today it’s not like that class matters for you?”
“Well I’d rather not and besides you have no right to take about missing classes,” Eddie says poking Nate in the arm repeatedly.
Before the 2 get to the student hall with the cafeteria, 3 other guys walk up to them.
“Hey Eddie, my man, you ever get that paper done?”
“Personally I just gave up and accepted the 0 on it. I mean seriously only 2 days’ notice before it is due!?”
“Boy am I glad to not have that class.”
“Yeah tell me about it. I had to buy out a coffee shop with all the black coffee I drank last night,” Eddie says to his other friends.
“Dude… why black?”

“I don’t judge your tastes do I?” Eddie says.
“Fiar.”
While Eddie is talking to his other friends in front of the student hall, Nate proceeds to stand there waiting to go in. He ends up making eye contact with the other guys who aren’t friends with him and Nate gives them a simple nod as the other guys go back to talking with Eddie.
“Oh, hey guys,” a cheerful and feminine voice echoes from behind Nate and Eddie.
“Oh ‘sup Alora,” Eddie says.
“Morning Alora,” Nate says.
“Getting breakfast you 2? If so have room for 1 more?” says Alora.
The 3 go to get breakfast after Eddie and they part ways with Eddie’s other group of friends. The majority of the conversation is between Alora and Eddie with Nate adding sarcastic remarks to it. While the conversation continues on, Nate scrolls through the apps on his phone passing by several pictures and videos of pugs, Eddie’s picture of him this morning with a very clickbaity type caption and several emotes, and plenty of other stories you’d find on social media. Eventually, they all go their separate ways for the day. Nate heads back to his dorm for the time being until his first class, Eddie stumbles to his chemistry class with a large cup of black coffee, and Alora goes to the school’s auditorium for early rehearsal.
The long day goes by and the 3 meet back up for dinner in the student hall.
“Are you guys free this Friday night?” Alora says.
“Probably,” Nate says. “Why do you ask?”
“Cause that’s when the fall play opens and I was hoping you both could make it to the first showing.”
“Yeah I’m down for it,” Nate says. “What’s the play again?”
“Really Nate? I’ve told you about it so many times,” Alora says with an overexaggerated look of disappointment towards Nate.
“Oh… uh I’m just messing with you it’s… uh,” Nate then leans to Eddie and whispers, “what’s the name of it?”
“I don’t know, I didn’t even know Alora acted!”
The two look at each other, then at Alora and chuckle to themselves, and Alora looks at them and sighs to herself.
“Geez, you guys can be hopeless sometimes.”
The night goes on and the 3 eventually head off to their respected dorm rooms. Eddie and Nate say goodbye to Alora and they get back to their room.
“I’m going to sleep now, I’m gonna need the energy for that chemistry lab tomorrow morning,” Nate says lying on his bed.
“I’m… uh gonna stay up for a bit longer… still have some uh… work to do,” Eddie says standing in the middle of the room.
“I thought you didn’t have any work tonight?”
“Oh well, I figured since I’m not tired that I’d get a head start on my other stuff…”
*Not tired!? How much black coffee did you drink Eddie!?*
“Well see you in the morning then night owl,” Nate says as he begins drifting off to sleep.
“*Sigh* God I hope that rule isn’t true…but there no way I’m gonna test it.”
As Nate falls asleep he begins to feel a strange sensation. It is as if he is completely conscious even though he is dreaming, and there is nothing around him but an empty void.
*What the...*
“This is too real.”
And the void around Nate slowly begins to fade away revealing a room to a modern-looking hotel room but on in the colors of grey, silver, and purple.
*I have never had a dream like this one… let alone a lucid one*
Nate then feels a vibration in his pocket and pulls out a circular device. It is about the size of his entire hand and besides the screen, the entire divide has a transparent purple glow to it. On the main screen, there is a bright purple glowing figure that looks like anything but a human with 2 large horns and a single glowing white eye in the center of its forehead.
“AHAHAHAHA!! こんにちは, Ciao, Привет, Bonjour, and Welcome all to my game!!!”
