Chapter 7

I asked Dughan to wait downstairs so I could figure this out by myself.

Even tho the revelation that my dad was actually not my biological dad was a shock, it didnt come with as much of a surprise as I thought. All through my childhood I was often the odd man out and was often bullied as I was usually the weakest boy in class, and it wasnt until I was about 12 when I met Rom and Gerard after I got into sports that I finally found my place. We usually played basketball and soccer on the local courts. I was still the smallest boy on any team that I joined but my sharp mind and quick thinking often made me the team captain. Come to think of it not surprising that I got the commander profession then. We became inseparable, me the brains, Rom the quick and athletic guy and Gerard the muscle. I couldnt wait to see what class and professions they would get when they turned 18.

Now I could understand why my dad kept my heritage secret but was still a little bit mad that he didnt tell me this sooner. Any time I asked about my mom when growing up all he used to say was that she dad a long way from here and that he didnt want to talk about it. Not that dad was ever a big talker to begin with. He worked transporting goods and people all over the city. In the morning and evening he would transport people to and from the university to where they lived. And in between he would deliver packages. Still cant believe that the quiet man that I knew used to be an adventurer.

I decided that even tho I was intrigued about my birth father. I had only one dad and that was the man that raised me. The man that taught me how to play chess, the man that taught me how to ride a bike, the man that gave me advice about girls and so on.

Not that that last bit helped as I never was good with the ladies. I was always polite and a bit shy around girls my own age. Some of the older ladies that id help with chores to make some money would often tell me that I would be the perfect son in law. Too bad the ones that said that didnt have any unmarried daughters. I was always unlucky enough to ask a girl out just after she got a new boyfriend, or to be told that she just wanted me as a friend or saw me more as a big brother.

My friend Rom who always seemed to have a girlfriend used to tell me that I wasnt an asshole enough whatever that meant. Anyway rant over back to the topic at hand.

As it was getting so late it was almost early I decided to get a few hours sleep and would talk things out with my dad over breakfast.

As electricity hadnt worked as a reliable power source for more than a millennium by now, I had a mechanical alarm clock. I do say had as when it went off after only getting 2 hours of sleep it ended up getting thrown against the wall. Good thing that it happened often enough that I was getting pretty good at putting stuff back together again.

So I went downstairs for breakfast and had a good heart to heart with my dad telling him what I decided and he told me some of the adventures he had with Jerome and his wife Martha. After hearing the first one I could understand why Martha had on the pants in that relationship, she apparently used to be some bad-ass assassin. Certainly explained her knife skills as a butcher. They decided the three of them to retire in Masterdam together.

My dad filled two roles in the group, his class was augment mage, an advanced form of mage specializing in buffing party members instead of direct damage. His profession was quartermaster. Taking care of the supplies, horses and the buying, selling repairing of weapons and armor. Jerome had the warrior class and the party leader profession which changed into guild master profession when he took that job. The rest of the group they were with apparently moved on without them and were still out there having adventures.

After I told dad about my class and profession he got a thoughtful look on his face. “I suggest that I come along when you meet up with Jerome as I might have a proposition for you.”

So with that him me and Dughan made our way back to the guildhall.
