…
Perched atop the dragon, a massive and present target appeared, moving like liquid, one bright and emerald; quite the contrast to its colossal size. Grendel relentlessly pursued Garland, who zigzagged across rooftops, leaping one over the other on all fours, leaving behind a trail of smoldering constructions of hardened ruby, brought forth by the miasma generated from the beast's jaws.
Garland halted, kicking up dust as he rolled to the side, narrowly avoiding the descending paws that clawed at the earth with a double swipe, the thunderous noise drowned out by the beast's roar and Dimitri's command, pointing his finger at the kneeling giant with a blazing gaze.
He returned in a whip-like tail strike that hit the knight head-on, protected by his two arms and clinging with both legs to the roof, skidding and raising debris; finally, the force pushed him to the edge of the structure, where he grabbed hold, fingers digging into the tiles.
Garland looked up to see Grendel charging at him with a deadly bite, only to find his prey leaping into the void, entering the building after smashing through a window, facing a long hallway with several glass panels leading to balconies.
The creature descended, sticking its head in to spew acid after the giant, who continued fleeing until breaking through the adjacent window with a punch. He entered the balcony and scaled the wall with his own hands, reaching the roof again, opposite the dragon. He didn't stop his advance, tearing off chunks of debris as he passed, hurling them like projectiles at the great beast, dodging its charges much to the vampire's frustration, unable to end his hated enemy.
In a blink, the beast closed the distance, facing Garland directly, and struck a downward paw directly at his head, stopped by the giant's two fists. The ground beneath their feet cracked, releasing waves that produced white noise. Both titans trembled as they struggled, face to face; the beast's nauseating breath hit the knight's helmet of blazing, unyielding flames, eliciting a furious groan from the creature akin to a monstrous version of a bat's cry.
"Impressive," Dimitri smiled in a mix of ecstasy and nervousness. "Are you some kind of Frankenstein experiment or something similar?"
Grendel prepared to unleash the miasma at point-blank range, but a direct punch to the jaw made him shut his snout, blood streaming from his nose as his eyes twitched. Dimitri defended his companion by stretching out his arm and striking the knight's helmet with a thrust, pushing the knight back a few meters, allowing Grendel to retaliate with a series of swipes blocked by the thick bracelets, showing signs of wear, and dodging every bite by rolling on the ground; counterattacking with a kick to the paw that made him tremble.
Dimitri jumped off his pet, thrusting forward with a long stab. Garland jumped backward, allowing the appendage to bury itself in the ground, and ran to the edge, jumping to a nearby structure, digging his fingers into the masonry as he deployed claws that allowed him to climb like a spider.
Turning around, he saw the monster charging back, roaring in a bite, and Garland propelled himself with both hands, rising above the bite that hit the wall. He closed the snout with a double stomp, only to be met with a strong blow from Dimitri's tentacle mass directly in the stomach, sending him crashing through the wall and into a long hallway.
After recovering, Grendel exhaled the miasma, which relentlessly pursued Garland indoors, breaking another window and rolling into the courtyard. Dimitri ordered to surround the tower in pursuit, however, a signal from one of his ghouls entered his brain.
Through the third eye of the mind, he discovered that one of the abandoned turrets was facing a shootout led by Vlad, taking cover and firing his spear, giving Agatha time to regain her strength.
The psychic connection was severed by a tree being thrown as a projectile straight at him, forcing him to dodge by spinning Grendel in the air; there was Garland on the ground, surrounded by many green-hued weapons at his disposal.
…
A precise shot exploded the brain of the first ghoul out of five. Agatha conjured a crystalline square barrier in front of Vlad, and with a leap, he darted out from the threshold of the tower. Using the protection that blocked the outside, plus the inside, he could flow out as if it were water. Each bullet that hit emitted electric sparks, generating cracks that revealed a limited time.
With a couple of shots, he damaged the limbs; one by one, the ghouls fell, and as the firepower dwindled, the steel of the blade finished them off amidst the whispers of the desire for eternal rest, the mercy of the king.
In a panting sprint, he reached the turret, a heavy iron construction connected by a seat and controls. At the base of the heavy machinery lay a pile of corpses, both infected and artisan soldiers with flesh torn, their armor dented by blunt blows from the war maul once wielded by horror.

He made sure to finish off each one, ensuring they were dead, and took control of the turret. A hand signal was enough for Agatha to position herself beside him, ready to follow the plan, and Garland played a crucial role.
He rotated in his seat, identifying and calibrating from the pointer to the bipedal flying beast, casting its shadow over the courtyard as it avoided the trees ripped from the earth turned into javelins.
A dive by Grendel in a double kick cracked the earth, raising debris and creating a curtain of smoke before the sight of the knight with raised fists. First came the miasma, acid avoided by moving aside, and then he saw the heavy limb of Dimitri connecting with his face; followed by a tail swipe from Grendel in the stomach, lifting him high and sending him crashing through the tower's dining area.
Dimitri smirked triumphantly, and as he gained his first breath, the danger senses of Grendel came to him; catching sight of a skirmish of troops led by Alexandra clad in armor, escorted by Frankstein, Lawrence, and Tudor.
The shots of the spears and bayonets came like heralds, stopped by the bar of his glove, amidst victorious laughter, the vampire mounted the dragon again; this time calling all his ghouls to join the massacre in the courtyard.
Ascending on a flap of wings, he witnessed in a connection of countless eyes how his grotesque reserve responded to the call. They emerged from windows, doors, and leaped from cliff edges to join the feast.
He ascended to the heights holding onto Grendel's neck, unleashing waves of wind as he flapped his wings; a dense air was breathed, and his braids and robes fluttered in a spectral breeze.
A crunch preceded the spill of dust and debris, igniting a familiar war cry from the side of the vampire. Garland leaped into the void just above the dragon, carrying in his two arms the remnants torn from the top of a tower; an act that left Dimitri's eyes wide, an impression that didn't dull his senses.
The creature pushed back away from the blow of the colossal club, and as it was about to regurgitate the miasma, the unpredictable happened. Garland's feet encountered an unnatural wind force, halting his descent and returning him to the battle, this time throwing the construction in front of the creature's vomit.
Alarmed, Dimitri activated the barrier at the same time, in a combination of forces. The hot ruby bathed and crystallized the structure without halting its momentum, colliding head-on with the semitransparent red outline sphere, in an impact that shattered it into thousands of pieces along with the protection, destabilizing Grendel's flight.
Clutching his pet, Dimitri contained a scream, trying to regain control; he glanced sideways as a turret took aim at him, and genuine terror ignited; the antithesis of the cunning confidence of the king as he squeezed the trigger, satisfied that his plan worked with Agatha kneeling beside him, panting, after using her magic to assist the knight.
The shot deafened ears, the platform shook as the rampant wind whistled and hit the target. The right wing burst in a perfect circle, raining a bloody shower alongside the long scream of the beast to the courtyard.
The shockwave knocked Dimitri off the saddle, knowing that the wounds suffered from the fall would make him a target for a fatal blow as his healing factor healed him; he decided to take action. He stretched his huge arm to its maximum height, grabbing onto a tree, and as he retracted, he spun at the top of it before safely falling to the grass, rolling, cushioning the damage; unlike his loyal pet. Grendel's impact shook the castle, leaving a huge crater where the agonizing, bleeding, and bruised beast lay making efforts to regain strength amid the loss of vital fluid spilled into a thick puddle.
The explosion of shrapnel, the electric screech, and the clashing of steels reigned in those fields of ominous screams. Dimitri, combining all his strength, sought to calm his companion, knowing that the injuries were considerable due to the psychic connection. He barely touched the neck with both hands before almost losing his balance due to a huge tremor nearby, caused by the arrival of a huge object. Turning, he noticed Garland on his knees on his own cracked ground where his fist rested; still unstoppable in pursuit of the final assault.
"Late!" Garland's two arms merged with the raging Grendel, barely whimpering at the union, just as Dimitri's body melted into a fleshy mixture at an alarming rate; the last thing seen of the vampire's face was a manic smile. Without a second thought, Garland charged ready to kill whatever formed in that enormous pulsating mass of bubbling teratomas. Being less than five meters away, a huge crack opened in watery threads and regurgitated the red miasma. Almost hitting the knight head-on, who rolled on the ground, only a few drops splattered on his armor, blinking smoked. A plaintive groan escaped the mask, pulling him to his knees to witness how the chrysalis hardened against the ruby, bursting from a monstrous claw and the demon's laugh returned, grotesquely twisted.
From the zygote emerged a humanoid amalgam of Grendel and Dimitri. Standing three meters tall, its body was made of a biological armor of red and black colors with a muscular build. The dragon head partially retained Dimitri's features, with a mask covering half of his face and extending to a fin imitating his mohawk and descending into a long tail ending in a lance-point sting. With prominent jaws full of yellowed fangs without lips, perpetually smiling.
The black parts gave the impression of blackened, hardened flesh, giving a metallic appearance to the neck, forearms, and thighs. The red torso had a pair of sharp shoulder pads from which bone spines protruded, and a second saurian tail swayed whistling in the air. The claws had a pair of blades, resembling Grendel's horns, and on its back, two bulges swelled until bursting into a pair of wings.
"For the gods..." Garland took a step back.
"Well..." Lawrence cracked his neck, leaning so that one ear touched his shoulder" ready for the next assault?"
