Godly Kings-Chapter 1

Godly Kings-Chapter 1

There was a popular VR game that took the world by storm. It was known as "Godly Kings." The game originated in South Korea and steadily branched throughout other countries, creating a massive fanbase. Capsules were made to provide a better gaming experience, alongside beta-testing with a hundred testers. It was a successful hit.

Seoul, South Korea - 9:30 PM -

Ten years after Godly King was released...

[Game Over] [You Died].

Kang Soo hadn't seen this screen for the first time. If he had to count how many times he had seen this game over screen, he would have to say about a thousand times. Godly Kings is a game focused on mostly kingdom-building and leveling up. There were other aspects to make the game even more exciting, but being able to build one's kingdom is what drew a majority of players. Each time Kang Soo played, he always chose nightmare difficulty to play the game. After all, he enjoyed a good challenge.

[Would you like to start over?]

[Yes.]

[ERROR!]

What? Kang Soo was at a delimma. While getting ready to start a new game, the capsule was malfunctioning.

[Would you like to start over?]

[Yes.]

[ERROR.] [Yes.] [ERROR] [Yes] [ERROR.]

[Capsule Shutting Down.]

Kang Soo tried several times to let himself out of the capsule but to no avail. There were sounds of alert and flashing red lights as the floating game screen lingering above his face showed an Error log.

[Oxygen Levels Low]

He could no longer draw air into his lungs. The chiming of alerts was beginning to fade, and dizziness washed over him. It was then, once the oxygen levels finally ran out, that he fell into darkness. When he came to, instead of awakening inside a capsule, he found himself floating inside a yellow and clear bubble.

There he was, floating ten feet above the ground, curled into a fetal position. The first thing he noticed was the changed environment. Instead of the inside of his capsule, he was surrounded by strange stone-like walls at every angle. A shadow loomed in the right corner of his eye.

"It's a dud. What shall we do with it?"

"Get rid of it. There's no need to keep this mixed mutt."

What is going on? Who are they? Are they talking about him?

"Should I drop it into the abyss?"

"Doesn't matter. It won't survive there anyway."

Before he realized what was happening, the bubble was being moved. He could see more clearly the shadow in the darkness. A beastly face with a triangular shape. Its massive size was majestic, and it had skin with scales of a bluish hue. Dragons. There was no doubt about it. He was no longer in Korea but in a world of fantasy.

He didn't know where he was being taken. It could be the abyss or anywhere. What matters most is what fantasy world did he happen to land in.

"It looks like we made it. It's better to get rid of you now. So you're not infecting our dragon race with your presence."

After six hours of flying through the sky, they landed in a forest. From what he had seen, there were no other civilizations nearby. Only a circle at least 20 feet wide. They hovered over this circle with nothing but darkness, where he was dropped without remorse. The last thing he saw was the glint in the dragon's eyes before everything around him went dark.

It was apparent he was dropped into the place known as The Abyss. He fell and fell as if there were no ending. All he heard were different sounds as he fell. By the time he reached the bottom, the bubble he was in bounced and rolled until it reached a smaller hole. Before he knew what was happening, he was falling once again. He continued to fall for hours, and as he fell, he heard even more strange noises.

When he finally hit another ground surface, he rolled until he collided with something hard. His bubble sat in the pitch black without a single clue where he had landed. It was a feat that the bubble had not yet popped after such a trip. The sound of breathing caught his attention. It was comforting.

Unknown: (You there. Were you abandoned?)

The voice spoke inside his head. It was rich and deep. There was a gentleness that prevented him from panicking once he heard it.

Who's there? Show yourself!

Unknown: (Can you not see me, mixed dragon?)

It's too dark, I can't see anything.

As soon as he thought those words, a flame ignited. A dragon with an off-golden color could be seen before the light faded.

Unknown: (As you can see, I'm also a dragon. I was dropped into this abyss millions of years ago. I don't have long to live.)

I see, so you were also abandoned. Were you also dropped down here by dragons?

Unknown: (That's right. It's always been this way. Our kind will drop dragons who cannot fly and are mixed with an inferior race into this abyss. We are discarded and treated as defects of the dragonkin. )

So, do you know what I'm mixed with?

Unknown: (Unfortunately, I don't. But I can give you the power to help you. I cannot use it, so it's better in someone else's hands. Are you willing?)

I'm willing.

It was better than sitting here doing nothing.

Unknown: (Once the power is passed down to you, I will cease to exist. I hope you can put it to good use.)

His bubble suddenly popped, and he felt something warm touch his forehead.

[Welcome to Godly Kings.]

[You have met the requirements: Meet an Ancient Dragon as a mixed dragon race.]

[Unlocked system: King of Dragons.]

Woah! What is this? Godly Kings? As in the popular VR game he was playing before the capsule malfunctioned? That Godly Kings game? And to top it off, he unlocked a system like the ones he's read in mangas and stuff! Is this real? So, this meant he was in Plitis, The Varsitle Realm. It was a world where magic, magical creatures, and dungeons existed.

But wait, was there a storyline like this in the game? He never played it before. But now that he was given this system, it was like he was seeing the world with better senses. He could see the dragon looming overhead. It was beautiful despite the scales' color fading.

Mr. Dragon, what is your name?

Unknown: (I go by Jurirth, but you can call me Juri. What about you, Small One?)

It was pointless to tell him the name he used in his world, so he said to the dragon. I don't have a name. He wanted to start afresh with no attachments to his past.

Juri: (Then I shall give you one. Hmm...I think...ah...I see....how about Newt?)

It was as if a power surged deep inside him and quickly faded.

Newt? It rolled off the tongue with ease.

I like it!

And thus, Newt started his new life as a mixed dragon species.
