A Dragon Master can have Single Main Soul and nine Sub Souls / Separate Souls.
Once a Dragon Tamer reaches Veteran Master Stage also known as Tier 1 or Stage 4 , they will unlock two abilities of their Main Dragon Ring . One is their second Innate Ability and another is ability to awaken their Sub Soul.
But they can't directly awaken their Sub Soul which is why they need to master their Main Soul and reach Battle Master Stage . After awakening your first Sub Soul , you will automatically achieve Great / Grand Master Stage also known as Tier 2 or Stage 6 .
In Tier 2 , you can start taming your second Dragon and make it your Dragon Pact .
You can tame other Dragons too without awakening your Sub Soul but it will only be similar to you taming a dog to raise. You can sent it to hunting , battling but they will not be linked to you . You can't store them in your Sub Soul and let them Cultivate in peace . They can't receive the benefits similar to those Dragons linked with your Sub Souls .
After you master your Sub Soul , you will be ready to advance into True Master Stage . Only after mastering everything that needs to be mastered in basic stage , you can advance in Inferior Dragon Master Stage also known as Tier 3 or Stage 8 .
In Tier 3 , you will once again awaken a Sub Soul and get ability to do Dragon Pact . After Tier 3 comes Intermediate Dragon Master Stage where you need to learn about Dragons and Dragon Masters before advancing into Dragon Master Stage and only will you truly become a Dragon Master .
