Prologue

Dragons.

For as long as history could tell, these magnificent beasts stood as the guardians of the land of Erice, a land that had known nothing but peace throughout the ages. Dragons were seen as the strongest magical creatures because of their unmatched raw strength and immense magic power. Even the elves, who were a race blessed with a great abundance of magic, couldn’t match up to them.

With the presence of the dragons, the people of Erice had no fear of threats. That was until the day a sorcerer named Garvias appeared. No one knew where he came from, nor the origins of the sinister magic he possessed. Magic so potent and powerful that rivaled even that of the legendary beasts.

With his power, Garvias tainted all the dragons, corrupting their minds and turning them all into his minions; all but the king of dragons, Astria, who alone could resist the evil sorcerer’s magic. But that did not matter, for with all the other dragons in Erice at his beck and call Garvias, became the most powerful man there was. And with the power of all but one dragon, he waged war against the land of Erice, aiming to conquer it for himself.

This led to the darkest chapter in Erice’s history, The Great War.

Garvias unleashed his dragons upon the land, their fiery wrath consuming all who defied him, reducing his enemies to ash and their cherished lands to ruin. However, the people of Erice did not falter. Despite the overwhelming onslaught, the united forces of humans and elves, under Astria’s steadfast command, valiantly battled against Garvias’ forces until the day when both Astria and Garvias clashed.

Their battle was fierce and shook the entirety of Erice, but its outcome was grim. As Garvias shot Astria down from the skies, hope turned to despair. And it would have been the end of The Dragon King, if the forces of Erice didn’t throw their lives away to make sure he escaped with his life.

Devastated and on death’s door, Astria scoured the land for a worthy person, a man to whom he gave all his power and dubbed, The Dragon Knight. Soon after he did, he died, leaving the fate of Erice on the man’s shoulders.

Fate had forsaken the people of Erice. To protect their own who had suffered most, the elves withdrew, abandoning The Dragon Knight and the humans. However, The Dragon King chose well and his valiant knight picked up the few pieces that were left. Rallying the people of Erice and forging an army from their despair, he pressed on in the fight against Garvias, all while honing his own power.

As the effects of the Great War continued to grow, the exploits of the Dragon Knight also grew until eventually, like his forbearer, he clashed with Garvias. This time, however, the Dragon Knight did what the king could not and defeated Garvias, putting an end to the long and unbearable war. With Garvias defeated, all the dragons under his command fell with him, never to be seen again. And although the future of Erice seemed unclear, the people still had hope. For the Dragon Knight stood as their new protector. A protector who would be reborn in every generation to carry out the will of the Dragon King. A human who bared the mark of the dragons and the power of their king.
