Chapter-14: Flatbread, Sin Lee, and Upper 4-star.

“I am giving you only chance to giving the face to Miss Headmistress; make a single breakfast that I can be satisfied with. If you do that, I Shin Lee will accept you as an official cook of this Palace of Heaven, which is heaven for every Fantasy Knight of the country.”

Everyone was gasping after hearing the sentence from Shin Lee.

Someone even muttered to himself,

“Is that even possible? I am working here for last ten years but satisfied expression from him… I had seen only two times if it is about tasting food. And his own foods weren’t among those two times. I think this boy had already failed before his test start.”

Of course, Agun had no idea about it and said to Shin Lee,

“Thank you, sir, for giving me a chance.”

Shin Lee directed his figure on certain place while saying,

“On this room, there is many kinds of ingredients. Feel free to use them.”

“Yes, sir.”

Agun went toward that room with the fast but steady step. Anne also followed him, for some reason her mood was off. Agun also noticed that but he didn’t ask the reason.

The room was huge as usual and Agun can see there are many kinds of indigents. After gasping air, he was choosing something good for making breakfast. When his hand was full, Anne the maid said him,

“Let me help you, as your maid.”

She took the ingredients from him.

Into many watchful gazes, both of them exit the ingredients storage room. Everyone was interested to see what type of ingredients Agun will bring. But Shin Lee shunned them as they were not doing their job.

No sooner had they returned in front of the stove, Agun lit up it. Then he started to boil water in a pot. Moments later, he put flour on that pot and started to knead it with a whisk into the dough.

He again pours milk, butter and mixed the salt into the pot with flour and started to kneading dough like before. When it got satisfied level of semi-solid and semi-liquid form or in better word smooth he picks up the pot from the stove.

He started to split the smooth flour dough into little round mold with his hand. Of course, he washed his hand before that.

Then he grabbed the thick wooden flat board and rolling pin what he had taken from storage. And using those he started to transform round mold flour into the flat circle and eventually,it took the form of raw flatbread.

He told to Anne,

“Can you lit up the other stove and put those pans into both stoves?”

Anne nodded and as his instruction, she lit up the other stove and put pan onto them. When she has done that Agun poured little bit oil onto both pans.

He had done with flattening the dough and placed two of them in the pans.

Seeing his work Shin Lee didn’t utter a single word or change his expression but in deep down, he was thinking, ‘everything he has done almost perfect. Level of heat, timing, amount of ingredients etc all are close to perfect. No doubt, he’s good.’

But what was surprised him most is that Agun was also bisecting fish calmly like he was curving wood into the sculpture.

He told to Anne to when the flatbread will puff up, flip it other side with turning spatula. Surprisingly enough she was doing that with good timing and for some reason, Agun trusted her that she could do that.

After bisecting the fish he carefully took out all thorn and started to chop them into little pieces.

When flatbread done, he covered them with lid.

Then he started to cook the fish with ingredients.

It took him 45 min to make it. In a medium-size plate, he decorates the flatbreads and cooked fish which is into pottage.

He slowly walks in front of Shin Lee and presents him with a calm expression. Shin Lee noticed that in his eyes were confident and trust. But surprisingly enough, in Anne’s eye, there was a hint of arrogance.

All of the stuff of kitchen was looking at three of them. They want to see what will be their chief chef’s expression after tasting Agun’s food.

Breathing for a moment Shin Lee tore apart the flatbread with his right hand and mix it with pottage while taking pieces of fish into it.

Slowly and elegantly he shaved it into his mouth and took the first bite. Then he frowned a bit and stopped.

Everyone from the kitchen noticed that and thought that was it end in the first bite or it was…

But when Shin Lee started to chewing everyone started to gasp.

Shin Lee was silent, Agun and Anne also were silent as well as everyone from the kitchen stuff. The only sound is coming from low and elegant chewing sounds from Shin Lee.

When he finished the dish Shin asked Agun,

“Tell me, how you know Sin Lee… my brother.”

Agun was shocked after hearing him then made a smiling face.

“He had visited our orphanage years ago. That’s when we became the acquaintance to each other.”

Shin Lee frowned and said,

“Did you learn it from him?”

“Yes, he gave me pointer after seeing my interest in cooking.”

Agun replied positively.

But in Shin Lee’s mind, he was surprised. His big brother is arrogant, even king cannot move him if he doesn’t want to. There are really few people he actually gives pointer in his life, and every one of them was the person he approves of. But as long as he remembers last time the number of people his brother acknowledge didn’t go into the double figure of number, of course on that list Shin Lee was one of them.

Even though Shin Lee looks like in his early thirties, his age is more than millennium. But he was approved by his brother only 150 years ago, and he was the youngest one that his brother had approved. For information his brother is not only nationally number one he is also internationally number one. So, achieving pointer from him mean, that he had been internationally acknowledged and also equal to a top-level chef.

And in front of Shin Lee, he was seeing a boy who is only 15, had been given pointer by his brother. He doesn’t know whether he would laugh or cry.

But he can’t doubt him because he tasted Agun’s cook by himself. It was almost 90% of his brother cooking taste. And why 90% he asked himself,

“My brother made this dish for delis and enchant southern culinary culture. But there is slightly different in this dish, why that is?”

“Sprite oil.”

Agun immediately replied as he was ready for it.

“Is that so, now I understand. The sprite oil you heated in the pan before placing flatbread. Actually, I tasted it before but I never see it myself how he made it because I wasn’t that fond of it.”

Hearing Shin Lee Agun nodded,

“Yes, even though old ma… Mr. Sin Lee is famous for his spiritual dish, personally, he’s not that interested to make a dish with sprite if he made it for him. But coincidently I was there after he made it for breakfast to eat and I join him. But today I made it with sprite oil; I mixed oil with both flatbread and pottage of fish which Mr. Sin Lee didn’t doin this dish.”

Shin Lee then asked him,

“So why did you chose this dish?”

“I thought it will be standard breakfast for students of the academy. You never said made delicious dish that you become amaze after eating it. You said you will satisfy of. That means you never said I had to impress you personally, the meaning behind of your word academy serving level food that you can satisfy of.”

Seeing Shin Lee’s expression everyone confirm that it was right.

“That’s why I made this, in morning it’s not good for health to eat too much spiritual dish but for academy or I should say for fantasy knight sprite food must even it is a little bit. So I make it like that you can enjoy the dish with minimum level sprite.”

Spiritual dish help fantasy knight to deepen their cultivation and made their health almost in shape. So every ordinary person understands the value of the spiritual food which is made by not an ordinary chef.

Shin Lee stare at him with a deep look. He saw there is still something hidden behind his choice of dish. And he understood what it was. That boy already knew he was Sin Lee’s younger brother who is number two. That means only food he can be satisfied with Sin Lee’s dish that is above his skill. And Shin Lee had fallen for that after the first bite when he realized that it tastes like his brother’s dish who is number one.

But even after that Shin Lee was impressed by him. There are nine stars for the dish in this continent. It is the level measurement for a dish. Shin Lee when first taste his brother food it was upper three-star level dish no matter how delicious the dish is if it is not spiritual it cannot be rated more than upper 3-star that’s why he wasn’t that interested on that at first. But Agun made it not only delicious but also a spiritual dish which is upper 4-star or almost close to 5-star which is the explosive amount.

Surprising every one Shin Lee gave a satisfying nod and said,

“Agun Dragun you have passed. From now on you are Vice-Head Chef of southern style culinary culture.”
