A pair of birds flying in the clear sky broke the silence that there was in that place, with their tweeting, getting the attention of two persons that were under them enjoying that sunny day; a girl who was lying down on the grass, with a slightly older one who was sitting near her.
“I always wondered, Rose,” asked the younger girl to her companion, “what you would do in the case we got some sort of fantastical, or ended up being entangled in some sort of extraordinary event”
“Uuuhm,” Rose thought for a moment, “being honest with you Nina, I have never thought about that in my life”
“I guess that's fair,” responded Nina, still watching the sky, “you never seemed to be into the kind of stories I am”
“Sorry Nina, I do like my fair amount of fiction, but I was never into the more fantastical
kind of stories,” Rose tried to not sound like she looked at Nina's interests with contempt.
“It's ok, everyone has their own tastes, it's not like you made fun of me because of it”
After Nina said that, there was a short pause which was dominated by silence, with the two girls enjoying the moment as the wind softly went through them and moved the grass around.
“So, another year has passed…,” commented Rose in a melancholic tone, now looking at the sky
“Yes, and not much has changed.” responded Nina with a moderately grumpy tone, which stopped Rose’s train of thought.
“That's true... but at least you have managed to keep your high scores! Your parents must be proud!” Rose was trying to cheer for her friend, without much success.
“Yeah, they are, but after a certain point I can't help but feel frustrated, and it is even worse when other people notice it…”
“What do you mean Nina? What happened?”
“My teacher wanted to talk with me about that after the classes were over.” Rose's expression changed to one of slight worry as she knew Nina didn't like that. “I get that she is trying to help me, and I appreciate it! But I honestly doubt she could help me in any way…”
Rose stayed silent, not knowing what to respond, only having a sad expression on her face, knowing that she wouldn't be able to help her friend as much as she would like to.
“I guess that's why I can't help myself from having those silly thoughts.” Nina continued, “I would certainly love for something to happen that would shake up my life, if only a bit…” Nina suddenly stopped talking, realizing something and turning to Rose, “It's not like I don't enjoy these moments with you Rose, it's just like…”

“Don't worry Nina, I get it.” Responded Rose with a kind tone and a smile, “life at school must be tough sometimes, right”
“More like all the time,” Nina sighed, “sometimes I wish to be as confident and assertive as you are, Rose. No matter what happens to you, yet you seem to continue with your life as if nothing had happened, that makes me so jealous sometimes!” Nina started to wriggle over the grass, trying to express her anger in the most harmless way possible, which caused Rose to laugh.
“Please stop Nina, sometimes I feel that you give me too much credit…,” said Rose, lowering her head and watching the grass in a thoughtful way.
Some time had passed, with the sky partly turning orange, signaling the close coming of the night, with Nina and Rose now walking over a street that was the grass field they were on. They were walking towards a car whose driver left the car the moment they noticed that the girls were getting close, in order to open the passenger door.
“I can't confirm anything yet,” said Rose to Nina as they were walking, “but it's very likely that my parents will have to go overseas for some business trips, and they wouldn't mind if we accompany them.”
“That would be nice,” responded Nina, “a change of scenery sounds great. At this point I would appreciate any decent change in my life, as temporal as it might be. I hope we are able to do it”
“Me too.” Responded Rose with a smile, happy that today's meeting would end on an optimistic note.
After reaching the car, both girls had a hug and said their farewells to each other, with Rose entering the car and closing the door, with Nina standing on the street looking at the car as it was getting away from her.
Following that she walked to her house, which thankfully wasn't that far from where she was. After some minutes she finally reached home, greeting her parents after she entered. They had a nice dinner where Nina tried her best to not show any sign of annoyance or frustration while they were talking about how she did at school.
After she finished her dinner, Nina went to her room upstairs, which was filled with all sorts of books and comics, alongside some small figures here and there. After putting her backpack to the side, she turned on her PC, ready to continue writing a story she was working on.
While she was initially excited to start writing again, as time past she felt more and more discouraged on continuing, as she was on the part where she was describing how the main group of her story were people with very strong bonds with each other, being able to do anything they proposed to.
Following some more minutes Nina had enough and turned her PC off, getting ready to go to sleep, but before she was going to her bed, she noticed a shooting start from her window. After a moment of consideration she took a breath and closed her eyes, making a wish to the star, before turning the lights off and going to sleep.
As Nina was sleeping, more shooting stars started to appear in the sky, to the point that after some hours the sky was completely covered by them, until it suddenly stopped, with almost no one the wiser at what had just happened.

In some alleyway of the city where Nina lives, two men covered by the shadows of the night were fighting, with one of them completely dominating the other, until he knocked him out, causing him to crash into a garbage bin before falling onto the floor unconscious.
As the man was walking away from the bloody scene, he suddenly stopped as something fell right in front of him, forming a crater, with a bit of steam coming from it. Lightly taken by surprise, the man got closer to the crater to see what exactly had landed.
It was a book.
