Chapter 2 - The Aftermath PT 1

When Max woke up, something seemed odd to him. His point of view was much higher than usual, as if he were looking from a building 5 stories up. He could see that he was to the side of his forge. As he moved his arms, he felt an odd feeling on his back. When he shook the sleep out of his eyes further and looked down at his arms, he froze. His arms and body were covered with scales and impossibly tall. At that moment, he remembered the description of the boon. Draconic Regeneration

Alert You've learned a new skill named: Draconic Regeneration

Draconic Regeneration Draconic Races have large regeneration due to their links to the dragons of old. +100% Regeneration to Health, Mana, and Stamina for every 1/8th Draconic Heritage. (+800%)

Alert You've learned a new skill named: Draconic Breath

Draconic Breath Dragons of old were said to have fearsome breaths of their respective elements. Gives access to glands that allow dragon breaths. Type of Breath will depend on dragon's race. (Immolation Breath)

Alert You've learned a new skill named: Human / Dragon Transformation

Human / Dragon Transformation Due to an innate difference in your heritage, you've been given the ability to change between Human and Dragon Form.

Alert Dragons much higher stats than humans. When in Human form, those stats are halved, and the defense given by scales will be deducted from Resistance stat, rather than it being halved.

Max was overwhelmed by the implications of all of those alerts. He was now a dragon, but what was most prevalent in his thoughts was the need to get out of this form. He tried to think in his head [Human Transformation!] and surprisingly to him, in the space of half a second, he reverted to his previous form. The problem was, he felt that excruciating pain from earlier and saw spots. He knew that he would've passed out had the pain gone on for even half a second longer.

When he finally got up, he noticed that his clothes were surprisingly still intact. He was rather thankful, as this was his favorite shirt. He went back into his forge, locking the door behind him so that he could absorb just what was happening.

Hello! How're you doing today? I noticed that you were the only person to pass the test!

He stared at the text box for a moment before saying, "Who the fuck are you? Why did you do this? What the fuck is going on?

Well, I am Aite, the Greek Goddess of Mischief! I was getting rather bored, and to answer your last question, Humanity is about to have a rude awakening. You've turned your back on the gods, turning to your 'science'. As such, our power is diminishing. To prevent that from happening, Zeus had decided to merge this planet and the other one that we take care of. You're a lucky one, I'll tell you that! My plan was to give everyone who passed the test earlier access to the 'system' that is implemented in the other world, however that isn't going to work as well... Ah well, that's Humanities' problem, not mine! I've decided that you need help, as such, I've decided to give you my blessing and a helping hand. You'll need it. In a months time, we are going to be merging.  Get ready!

Max read the message several times, unbelieving of what he saw. If what he saw was true, his world would be changed beyond recognition. Suddenly, pop-ups began showing up again

Alert You've earned the blessing of the Goddess Aite. As such, you've earned 2x experience gain and will receive a helper to help you learn about the system.

When he finished reading this, he heard a voice saying "Hello, my name is S.H.E.L.B.Y. however you can just call me Shelby." He quickly looked around himself, but saw no one there. It was almost as if she was talking in his head.

"That's because I am, you dolt." 'Shelby' said to him.

"Who the hell are you? How the fuck are you talking to me in my head?" He asked frantically.

"Well, I am your helper. I was assigned to help you learn about the System. Would you like me to go over the basics" she said in a bored tone.

"Okay, tell me them."

"No need to be rude, a 'please' can go a long way, y'know? Ugh, whatever. You are a part of the System, created by the gods to help the inhabitants of the other world cope with magic and deal with all the beasts caused by the large amount of ambient mana in the other world, who's name is Thaer. Now, you have some important things that you need to know. First, you have a status screen that you can pull up by thinking 'Status' in your head. Next, you have skills which can by magic or physical. Magic Skills are skills that you can make or learn. It helps channel the shape, form, and purpose of the spell. Incantations will also be used for higher tier spells. Physical skills are basically moves on steroids. If you give a move a name, if it's truly unique it will be special, easier to perform and have greater effects. Now that you know that, any questions?"

Max listened to this person explanation absorbing all of it. When she finished talking, he thought to himself 'Status'.

He marveled at his stats. His upgrades were incredible! Not only did he have massive amounts of strength, vitality and resistance, but his other stats were boosted by an extraordinary amount! He assumed that base stats were 10 as the system seemed to follow basic RPG rules.

The story has been taken without consent; if you see it on Amazon, report the incident.

He thought about it, but couldn't figure out where the hell he was going to level up. His best guess would be to hunt, but that couldn't be worth much, could it? After all, it's incredibly easy to kill a deer or bear when considering he was a fucking dragon.

"Well Shelby, how do I level up?" Max asked the helper in his head.

"For now, you will be unable to level up quickly, seeing as how you're a dragon. As a dragon, it'll be much more difficult to level up. You will have to collect 1,000 EXP for every 1 that a Human would have to collect. Look on the upside though, humans collect 5 stat points, you collect 30! So don't worry about it." Shelby responded.

"If that's the case, what could I do in the meantime while waiting for our worlds to merge? What professions are there that could relate to Blacksmithing?" Max asked.

"Well, the first to come to mind would be Enchanting... I suppose there's mining but you've no need of that profession."

"Ooohhh, Enchanting? Max asked excitedly.

"Yes, you would chisel runes into products, then insert your mana into it. Depending on the quality of the material, you could manage to get more enchants on each piece. There is a special rune language that normally no one would know of all the words, however, you're an exception. Aite told me to give you items for professions, so here you go. This is a runic encyclopedia. This contains all runes. Be thankful. Also, the system starts with you being allowed to create a single rune. After that, once you level to Beginner 5, you will be allowed to use 2 runes. Then, at Intermediate 1, you will be able to use 3 runes to make a glyph. Glyphs make the power increase exponentially. If you have 2 protections runes and 1 fire protection rune, instead of getting 20% protection and 10% fire protections, you will receive 30% protection as it increases exponentially. If you have 3 runes, you will receive 50% protection. You will eventually be able to interconnect glyphs to a greater glyph. Every 5 levels you will receive a rankup."

Spoiler: Spoiler

 Beginner 1 - 1 Rune

Beginner 5 - 2 Runes

Beginner 10 - 3 Runes

Intermediate 1 - 1 Glyph / 3 Runes

Intermediate 5 - 2 Glyphs / 6 Runes

Intermediate 10 - 3 Glyphs / 9 Runes

Adept 1 - 1 Greater Glyph / 9 Runes

Adept 5 - 2 Greater Glyphs / 18 Runes

Adept 10 - 3 Greater Glyphs / 27 Runes

Expert 1 - 1 Seal / 27 Runes

Expert 5 - 2 Seals / 54 Runes

Expert 10 - 3 Seals / 81 Runes

Master - Greater Seal / 81 Runes

Some materials may not be able to support Glyphs, Greater Glyphs, Seals or Greater Seals. Upon item creation, quality will decide the amount or type of enchantment supportable. A jump like from rune to glyph will add 1.5x more stats. Only the highest quality material and items can support higher level enchantments (Greater Glyphs and above)

Example on exponential growth of the enhancment:

1 Rune = +5 attack

2 Runes = +15 attack

3 Runes = +30 attack

1 Glypn = +45 attack

2 Glyphs = +90 attack

3 Glyphs = +135 attack

1 Greater Glyph = +202.5 attack

2 Greater Glyphs = +405 attack

3 Greater Glyphs = +607.5 attack

1 Seal = 911.3 attack

2 Seals = 1822.6 attack

3 Seals = 2733.9 attack

1 Greater Seal = 4100.9 attack

Enchanting Using the power of magic and the runic language, you are able to imbue items with power to aid their users in the time of need. Intermediate                        4 (98%)

Blacksmithing Using the power of fire and hammer, you can shape the hardest of metals to your will. Expert                       4 (38%)

After 3 weeks, Max had gotten the hang of it. It seemed that past experiences and knowledge counted for experience, as he was already an expert 4 in Blacksmithing. At first, when he chiseled his first rune, it was rather crude, but after that he realized something. Using it on cold metal was much harder than doing it on slightly hotter metal. From then on he would chisel in the runes when he was tempering items. After the first week, he made a chisel with enchants to make it much easier on him. After all this time, he was about to get access to the ability to make 2 glyphs! He was so excited. He only had to finish this last one and he was in business. As he finished it up, it pushed him over the edge.

Enchanting Using the power of magic and the runic language, you are able to imbue items with power to aid their users in the time of need. Intermediate                        5 (98%)

The majority of the time to create these enchants was just making the actual things. On the upside, he was already at Expert 5 (23%) in blacksmithing from his work. he figured that once he had access to better materials, he'd level up faster. After all, they were going to be transported to a fantasy world, who's to say orichalcum and adamantine wouldn't be there. He had purchased some other metals that he could work to level up faster, or at least he assumed it would be faster as they would be more rare materials.

It seemed that no one in the world realized that anything happened. From his guesses, they had been transported to an alternate dimension of sorts as his shop was unharmed after the fight. There were many missings, but other than that, no one reported anything. He'd decided that if he wanted to live, that he shouldn't tell the authorities about the events. He sure as hell didn't want to go to an Insane Asylum.

_____________________________________1 week later______________________________________________

Today was the day of the merge. He'd spent the remainder of his time enchanting armor and weapons with runes. He had a set of steel plate that was supporting 3 glyphs. One glyph was made up of runes to allow fluidity of the metal. The glyph worked like a charm, and now whenever he moved not only did the metal not make a sound, it didn't constrict his movement at all, eliminating a large con for plate armor. The other two glyphs were full protection, making the armor much sturdier. He'd decided to make not only a Zweihander but also a billhook and arming sword. He had difficulty carrying all of it, but he'd found an amazing rune. It allowed the storage of items in a alternate dimension.

The ring was made up of an iron-gold alloy as he found gold to be the best material to hold enchantments so far. The iron provided a bit of sturdiness to the ring. He'd applied 3 Glyphs on a ring. It was extremely time consuming and difficult to put the glyphs there, but he managed. Each glyph added 6ftx6ftx6ft of storage, allowing a total of 18ftx18ftx18ft storage. He stored many of his personal items there. He was even able to fit luxuries, like a mattress that was compressed down and other articles of furniture such as his bedframe, dresser, desk, and other such luxuries. He made a second ring and recently obtained many books on diverse topics that would be valuable for him to have. Finally with a few more hours till the time he assumed to be when the transport time was, he made the last ring and stuffed it full of constructions material and types of metal.

He'd emptied his bank account to obtain all of these materials, and he damned sure wasn't going to waste the chance he received by killing the wyvern. As he finished, he sat down to watch some TV because he knew he wouldn't have that luxury for long. He'd asked Shelby about what the specifics of the Merge was going to be, but she said rather than a merge it would be more like everyone on Earth would be transported to there. As the clock hit 10:50 AM, he felt the earth drop out of under him and fell into the void...
