The Thunderous Roar Of A New Age

The Thunderous Roar Of A New Age

In a wooden room dimly lit by moonlight coming from a window, two men sat on a table opposite to each other in silence, for a few moments the silence remained until one of them spoke "We won't be able to win this battle" The captain said with a hint of defeat in his voice, the man opposite to him started to massage his eyebrows seemingly in deep thought. After a short moment he said "We need to destroy the artifact" The captain asked defeatedly "How would we be able to destroy that thing." The captain continued and said "Not even The Lion would be able to do it"

The man opposite to him dressed in a green uniform slowly rose from his seat, and made his way to the window, when he looked outside all that he could see was the endless sea reflecting moonlight and fire that danced on the stage it had been given. Then he turned to the man in white uniform "I have a way to destroy the artifact" Once he finished talking, he opened his mouth and started pulling on his left wisdom tooth from his maxilla with his right hand, after a short struggle the tooth gave in and was ripped out with a low but disgusting noise, he looked at the tooth in his right hand with an expression that could be understood as frustation "Inside this tooth is a single drop of dragon's blood" The captain looked at him and understood his intentions, then he asked with doubt "The Beast won't leave for centuries, is it even worth the price ?" The man in green looked at him with stare that made clear he was bothered and answered with fervor "Any price is a price that can be paid to keep Novillians hands off the artifact!" The captain rose from his seat, looked at man in green's eyes and said "I won't help give my fellow man as food to a beast, if you want to betray your kind for hatred do so, but i won't be an accomplice in this heresy" And left the wooden room, The man in green now alone on the wooden room returned to his seat and stared at the tooth 'May God forgive me' He thought and shed a single tear, he was surely going to be damned to hell, but his hatred for his enemies was greater than the desire to avoid an eternity of suffering. He once again rose from his seat and started the preparations to lure The Beast.

...

Ducan was adrift in the cold sea with an arrow stuck in his shoulder, he felt the strenght of his body reducing with every moment, he felt the grip of death growing stronger every second that passed, his only thought was 'What did i do to offend God for me to die like this' Dying in the cold sea was horrifying prospect but he was unable to do anything, his strenght had been drained, his will weakened, his faith shaken, he hoped he would be saved but alas destiny was not kind to the weak.

All he could do was watch, as the battle unfolded, Novillians ships rammed into Naverlanders ships with the objective of boarding them. Ducan watched as the ship he fell from was struck by burning arrows and boarded by the Novillians, it's crew putting up a fight before being slaughtered by the superior in hand-to-hand combat Novillians, once the ship's crew was killed the Novillians wen't back to their ship prepared to board another ship, meanwhile the now empty Naverlander ship burned, he watched how the sea reflected the burning ship, the fire on it danced like an ballerina it's music the cries and screams of dying soldiers that echoed all over the battle.

As the battle continued, Ducan felt his eyelids becoming heavy and he strunggled more and more to keep them open, as he tried to keep himself awake by looking around he noticed some sailors in the same situation as him, some of them wore Novillian clothes while the majority were wearing Noverlanders clothes, however they all found themselves in the same situation, adrift on the cold unforgiving sea. Ducan felt hatred for the Novillians for killing his fellow Noverlanders but with each passing moment his hatred started to be replaced by peace and acceptance, acceptance that death was near, peace that there was no need to fight as nothing could be done.

Ducan felt time go by, his wounded shoulder stopped bleeding and after some more time he saw the dawn of a new day beginning in the horizon. The battle was still happening but Ducan couln't be bothered to watch it, the dawn of a new day for his delirious mind seemed like a permission from God to die. He stopped strugling against the grip of death, and slowly started to sink, however before he could embrace death, he saw a titanic head rise from the sea, the head was that of an octopus.

Ducan looked at the giant beast, it's size easily dwarfed everything he had ever seen, he was sure the beast was larger than the entire Noverlander and Novillian fleet combined, a small part of it's head was above water so it's eyes could be above water. Ducan looked below him and saw 8 giant tentacles that belonged to the titanic octopus, one of them slowly going towards the flagship, once the tentacle reached the flagship, it carefully wrapped around the flagship, then it started to bring the flagship towards the octopus, the crew in the ship desperatedely trying to make the octopus remove it's tentacles from the ship, however their attacks were futile, they didn't even scratch the tentacle.

Once the flagship was near the Octopus head, it was brought underwater and Ducan heard the sound of wood and flesh being crushed, Ducan noticed the water near him was being slowly becoming red of color, Ducan continued to look at the Octopus as it ate, eventually the octopus finished his food, it looked around then roared and left, his exit making all the ships near him to be either capsized or taken far away by the waves created by it's exit.

When the beast roared Ducan wen't deaf and felt his strenght disapear, he started to sink unable to do anything, not even struggle as his arms and legs were too tired, eventually he died.
