Within the [Throne Room] Lars snapped out of his musings.
Gilliam noticed this, and excitedly said, "Have you decided on our course of actions, milord?"
Lars shook his head in response. "Not yet. I can't focus like this." Lars said while gesturing towards the others.
"Eh?" Lillian, whose face seemed to be strangely red, asked in confusion. "Do you want us to leave, so you can have time to think?"
In response, Lars shook his head again. "Not that. I mean I can't focus when I'm here sitting while some of you are standing."
"Oh..." Lillian sighed in relief for some reason.
Lars payed her no mind then said. "We have a [Command Room] so let's move there." Lars was about to will use his [Dungeon Management] skill, when he suddenly realized something. He turned towards the others and asked. "Do all of you still have the ability to warp in the Dungeon?"
"Yes, milord. I believe the same goes for everyone as well." Gilliam replied.
Lars looked at the others in the room, after seeing that nobody disagreed he then said in a commanding voice. "Then we're moving there." After saying that, Lars willed one of his skills to activate.
[Dungeon Warp] has been activated.
Please select your destination.
"The [Command Room]." Lars said. A fraction of a second later the others said the same thing, seemingly having used their [Dungeon Warp] as well. Nox didn't say anything but he raised one of his paws lazily.
A series of bright flashes later, there was nobody left in the [Throne Room] except for 6 golems disguised as pillars.
*****
Lar's [Dungeon Proper]. 100th Floor (Alpha Route) - [Command Room]
The [Command Room] was an essential place, for any self-respecting Dungeon Master, that is. It was an essential room, that allowed a Commander to telepathically command an entire army over distances beyond the Dungeon's [Territory]. It also augmented any [Command] skills such as Gilliam's [A Call to Arms], extending it's range, depending on the level of the [Command Room]. Naturally, as the [Command Room of the Rank #1 Dungeon in the game, any [Command] skills used with this room's functions become global, meaning it would affect all units in the world, wherever they may be. It was a vital room to have in the upper stages of the game, where each player would potentially command hundreds of thousands to millions of units. Naturally though, Gilliam did all the commanding, since Lars was entirely hands off with that. Lars just decided the direction they went, Gilliam decided how they got there.
That is why a [Command Room] is normally the 2nd highest priority room, that a Dungeon Master must protect, with his [Core Room] being the most important. Despite this, players aren't really pressured to enhance a [Command Room]'s defensive abilities, because there was a way to make sure that absolutely no enemies can reach it.
It was to simply isolate the [Command Room] by removing all the pathways leading to it.
Dungeon Invasion as a Dungeon Development game, naturally strived to have balance. So, it wouldn't allow players to make their [Core Room] completely inaccessible. It was fine if reaching it was difficult, but it could never be impossible. However, this rule only applied to one's [Core Room]. The other rooms were fair game.
That's why, Lars thought to put his core room, in a room that could only be accessed by warping into it.
Inside a Dungeon's [Dungeon Proper] most structures, and walls, were invulnerable. So, if a room had no hallways leading into it, it couldn't be accessed, unless the enemies could phase through solid stone.
Lars was the first one to do this, and many more followed after he revealed the strategy in exchange for a large amount of super essence, making [Command Rooms] entirely impossible to invade. Lars had even taken the extra steps to engrave the walls of his entire Dungeon with runes that prevented phasing. Making his [Command Room]'s security, fool-proof.
Well, that said, invading the enemy's [Command Room] didn't win you the game, getting to their [Core Room] did. And there was no fool-proof way to protect that. That made this strategy not that game-breaking, at least that's how it seemed to Lars. Since his enemies never made it to his [Command Room] even when he didn't make it unreachable, he hadn't experienced the troubles of having his' sacked by enemies.
Most [Command Rooms] would look similar to the one's in the real world. Large screens on the walls, showing maps of certain locations or graphs of some kind, and a long table with in the middle with enough chairs to seat the necessary personnel. The [Command Room] of Lar's Dungeon was much the same. Except that it didn't have screens on the walls. Instead, the long table in the middle was equipped with some sort of device that would show the necessary images and scenes in 3-D. Lars didn't really know what it was. He had just bought the best equipment available for a [Command Room] then chucked it inside.
'Holy crap this is amazing...' Lars was currently testing out the holographic device. He sent his thoughts to the device, then a moment later, the holographic image changed to show a 3-D model of the [Castle], with another thought it showed the [Throne Room], then the [Garden]. After a while, Lars felt like he had gotten the hang of it and finally made the device show the entirety of the [Territory] which was a massive forest with a clearing in the middle. The forest essentially looked like a giant donut. A large castle with tall walls, 4 sturdy looking gates in the cardinal directions and a tall Magic Tower in between each gate. There was a total of 4 towers, and each one housed an [Elder Dragon] to protect it.
Unfortunately, anything beyond the forest was blank. They hadn't explored that area yet, so naturally, they didn't know what was there.
That wasn't good. They had to change that.
"Well, first of all, get the maids to fly up and survey the surroundings. Tell them stealth is the highest priority, so use stealth magic and all the other stuff." Lars commanded. The maids that Lars was talking about weren't actually maids. Well... they technically were, however housework wasn't their main duties. The Luxurian Battle Maids were composed entirely by succubi, who were adept at magic that either hid them or disguised them. They were also similar to their leader, Lillian, in that each was capable of combat from any range and could even manifest wings to fly. They were the perfect aerial troops to send out when you didn't want the enemy to see you coming from miles away.
Lillian, who was the Hero responsible for the 100 Luxurian Battle Maids, replied respectfully. "I'll get them to do it immediately." She used the [Command Room]'s functions to telepathically communicate with her brethren.
"Mm. Now we wait for a bit." Lars said, sinking further into his chair. He then turned to Azkal and said, "Azkal... no Azu, tell your runners to prepare to sortie. Just prepare." The runners that Lars mentioned weren't people that were sent out to the nearby stores on errands. Runner was an alternate term for rogue in Dungeon Invasion. In other games, they might have been called thieves or assassins, as well. The Shadow elven runners under Azkal were pinnacle level scouts and could even dive into shadows to become undetectable by most.
"Understood." Azkal responded with a surprising amount of confidence and resoluteness. Lars nodded and waited for the maids' reports.
Lars' wait only lasted for a few seconds before Lillian reported, "Master, they said that to the North, West and South, they can only see an endless amount of water."
"Oh...?" Lars nodded with interest. "What about the east?"
Lillian nodded and said, "There is apparently a vast wasteland beyond the forest. There are also what seem to be small, crude settlements in them."
"I see... So we're in a Peninsula, and only the east can be accessed by land..." Lars mused for a bit before a dark look appeared on his face. "That's not good."
Lars' forces were mostly land based. He had a few [Elite] units that could fly, but all of his [Soldier] units were land troops.
And none of them were amphibious. So water was one of the places Lars hated fighting in the most. Naturally, being surrounded by water on 3 sides was not ideal.
Lars wasn't an idiot, though. Well, when it comes to Dungeon Invasions that is. He naturally remedied his weakness by developing his aerial troops as well as gathering [Mercenary Card]s that would allow him to summon troops that could fight in water. There were also all sorts of plants in the forest that were highly toxic to most amphibious creatures, such as the Naga race and Mermaid race. Of course, the plants weren't toxic to just the amphibious races, they were toxic to others as well, just amphibious ones especially. He had other countermeasures as well, but normally, none of them were available at the start of the game, such as constructing ships and... other things.
However he was still quite troubled that his territory was surrounded by water on three sides. He had to focus on those three sides first. He turned to face Zeyziel. "Zeyziel... no, Zeyl. Get your Valkyries to scout the 3 sides, you decide how many. They're the fastest fliers we have after all. Tell them not to stop until they see land in the horizon." Lars then turned to Lillian, "Lily, have the maids cast some stealth magic and skills on them before they fly off. Have the maids follow behind the Valkyries, ready to recast it just in case."
"Understood." Zeyziel smiled and nodded. She then proceeded to use the room's functions to direct the Celestial Valkyries she had under her command. Celestials, even the fallen kind, could temporarily transform into beams of light to travel great distances in practically no amount of time. According to the lore, they didn't actually travel at the speed of light, but it was still absurdly fast.
'It would be overpowered if they could maintain that state in battle.' Lars mused with a hint of disappointment. 'Unfortunately, they can only use that form when travelling and when they're really high up in the sky.'
"Yes, master~♪" Despite trying to be serious, Lillian couldn't help but let a little of her happiness show.
Looking at the two, Lars couldn't help but smile wryly. 'Are they really that happy just from me using their nicknames again?'
When it was all still a game, Lars had referred to his Heroes with nicknames. Gilliam was Gill, Lillian was Lily, Zeyziel was Zeyl, while Azkal was Azu. Nox didn't have a nickname though, since his name was literally just one syllable, but Lars called him boy a lot. He had heard them use their nicknames when referring to each other earlier, so he had jumped on the bandwagon too. He didn't think they'd be so happy about it though.
Well, Lars felt good calling them that, too. So all was well.
Lars wiped the smile off his face since there were other things to do. He looked at Gilliam, "Gill, position the forces facing the sides adjacent to the water, those are the most vulnerable areas we have at the moment."
"Understood" Gilliam nodded. He just sat there, looking like he wasn't really doing anything, but Lars knew he was using his [Commander] skills. Gilliam had no need for the [Command Room] when he was just sending orders to troops that were close by.
Soon, changes appeared on the hologram. White dots would travel in groups of three to the north, west and south. These groups would followed closely behind by a pink dot, which was travelling a bit slower than the white ones. As the white dots travelled, the map expanded. Lars looked away from the hologram, and looked at Azkal. "Azu, send the runners to the east. Remember, stealth is the priority. Don't engage."
"Understood." Azkal responded, and soon around 100 black dots started rapidly travelling to the east, where there were supposedly wastelands.
Lars nodded, satisfied. He then turned back to Gilliam, "Gill we have to make some countermeasures in case some fucktard tries to invade from the sea, How many sea mines can we produce with the mats in the treasury?"
(Authors Note: For those non-gamers here, 'mats' is slang for materials.")
"Hmm..." Gilliam thought for a bit, then said, "Not a lot. At the very least I don't think we can do what I think you want to do, milord."
"Fuck." Lars cursed. He was entirely unprepared for this situation. If he'd known he would have gathered more materials. But he calmed down. There weren't necessarily going to be enemies coming from the sea, so he didn't need to panic.
How bad could his luck possibly be?
'Oh wait a minute... was that a flag? Did I just set a flag for myself?!' Lars wanted to hit himself.
Eventually he received a report from Zeyziel. "Master, there's something weird..."
"What do you mean...?" Lars' heart dropped. Did he really raise a flag for himself?
Zeyziel shook her head. "Far to the west is a wall of white fog..."
The tale has been taken without authorization; if you see it on Amazon, report the incident.
"White fog...?" Lars parroted without thinking. "What about it? Just fly through it? Celestials have [Transcendent Senses] as a racial passive ability, fog isn't going to scare them off, right?"
"Mm." Zeyziel nodded but her face still appeared to find the situation strange. "Apparently, whenever they flew into it, they'd exit exactly where they entered from. Also, even with their senses, they couldn't tell what was beyond the fog. Almost as if there was nothing there."
"Nothing there..." Lars repeated unconsciously again.
"Yes, master. Nothing there."
"What the fuck? That sounds like the end of a map or something..." Lars remarked with a strange look on his face.
"That's actually exactly what I thought." Zeyziel agreed while nodding.
"What... so this world isn't round...?" Lars mused out loud. "What about the horizon? Is there one?"
"..." Zeyziel paused for a bit, seemingly asking her subordinates first. She then nodded her head to Lars. "There apparently is."
"What...? So the world is round but it has an edge...? Or is it like a roled up piece of paper, like cylinder?" Lars scratched his head in confusion, his head was starting to hurt.
Zeyziel shook her head. "There are horizons to the north, east and south."
"I give up." Lars threw his hands in the air. He gave up thinking about the shape of the world. It wasn't relevant at the moment anyways. "What about the Valks sent to the south and north?"
"The north is still going, as for the south, they see a large island in the horizon so they have stopped and are awaiting instruction." Zeyziel reported.
"Alright. The Valks who went to the west should coordinate with the north, have them fan out, since it seems that the north is mainly a vast body of water. Have the Valks in the south stay in position and wait for the maid to catch up." Lars turned towards Lillian, "Lily, have the maid infiltrate the landmass and investigate it's life forms. Again, stealth is the priority. Don't push too far if it looks like there are places that're suspicious."
"Understood." Lillian responded. Then telepathically communicated with the maids in the south.
"Azu, what's up with the runners?" Lars asked Azkal.
"They have reported that the settlements belong to tribes of orcs, master." Azkal reported.
"Orcs...?" Lars was surprised for a short moment but recovered instantly. Orcs weren't rare at all, he was just surprised that they were his first encounter. "All of them?"
"Yes, all the settlements in the wastelands belong to various tribes of orcs." Azkal confirmed.
"Huh. Fancy that." Lars grinned amusedly. "The dumb kind or the reddish kind?"
"I'm not sure master..." Azkal paused for a bit before saying, "They're brown skinned."
"Brown... I've never heard of brown skinned orcs." Lars' eyes were lit up with interest. He hadn't been here for even a single day and he already found a new variant of something. "Are they strong?"
"Not in particular. At the very least, non of the runners feel threatened." Azkal reported with a hint of pride and confidence. "There are apparently signs of fighting amongst the tribes."
"They're the dumb kinds then." Lars immediately judged. The smarter orcs would band together after deciding on a single war chief. Then they'd make a massive kingdom, where every single soldier has good base stats. The types of orcs that couldn't even unite under one leader and kept fighting each other were imbeciles. Not a threat at all.
Lars decisively stopped worrying about the east for the moment.
"Master, a report from the north." Zeyziel announced. "The Valks that fanned out all said that they spotted the same landmass stretch far from the west to the east."
"They found a continent then." Lars stated.
"Yes." Zeyziel confirmed.
"Can they see anything from there? Towers, ships, anything?" Lars asked.
"Yes, there were what appeared to be a few Magic Towers. All ships were military grade ships, as well. No passenger or mercantile freight ships. They could also see Magitech Airships in the distance." Zeyziel.
Lars whistled. "Then they're about an upper-mid tier civilization... Any floating islands?"
Zeyziel shook her head. "None could be seen, but they might've been further inwards."
"True." Lars nodded in agreement. "Have them retreat. If they have Magic Towers, casual stealth might be seen though."
"Understood." Zeyziel began directing the Valks to retreat using the [Command Room]'s functions.
He turned to Lillian. "The south? Any reports yet?"
"Mm." Lillian nodded. "Most likely, Elves."
"Oh?" Lars eyes lit up with interest.
Seeing Lars' excitement, Lillian couldn't help but frown. She was aware of how glorified elves were in her master's world. Of course, her race, the succubi, were also glorified, but she still didn't like this situation. However, she chose to swallow her complaints and continued to report, "The maid couldn't go very deep, because there were too many spirits in the perimeter of the island. She could infiltrate the place if it's okay to be seen for a bit though..."
"No." Lars immediately rejected. "One of our greatest advantages at the moment, is that nobody knows that we're here."
"Understood." Lillian didn't try to insist. She chose to continue, "She, the maid, was able to make out a [World Tree] far into the distance though, so that's why we can surmise that the island is occupied by elves."
"I see..." Lars mused. Elves in the south, possibly idiotic orcs to the east, nothing in the west, and an upper-middle grade civilization in the north. There was also the chance that the civilization was a lower-High grade civilization or above. "The north is the greatest threat then."
"Indeed." Gilliam agreed solemnly. "I shall start having the Homunculi prepare the sea mines and have them focused on the northern coast, milord."
"You go do that, Gill." Lars nodded in approval. Now that his Heroes were real, they could predict his will. It was very convenient. He could now leave everything about the north civilization to Gilliam. As for the elves, he could leave them alone for now. Elves, as a race, weren't very combative. Worst case scenario, if they tried to mess with Lars, he had a way to take their [World Tree] hostage. For now, he would turn his attention to the east. As well as beyond it.
"Lily, Zeyl, have everyone retreat and get back here." Lars thought for a bit then said, "Azu and Zeyl come with me. We'll go and visit the nearest orc settlement. Lily you stay here."
"""Understood.""" All three replied affirmatively. But Lillian had an additional complaint. "But I wanna come too!"
"Geez. Fine, you can come." Lars immediately acquiesced. There wasn't any particular reason why he wanted Lillian to stay anyway.
"Woo~♪" Lillian whooped in joy.
"You should come with me too." Lars said, while petting the pup in his lap, which responded with a snort.
'Well then, let's take a look at these brown orcs...' Lars thought, a bit excited to take a trip outside his territory. 'Who knows? Maybe they won't be as dumb as I thought.'
Lars set off with 4 of his Heroes, having somewhat optimistic thoughts.
*****
East of the Forest. The Wastelands - Nearest Orc Settlement.
Lars was wrong.
The Orcs were as dumb as rocks.
'They just started wailing like retards the moment they saw us...' Lars thought exasperatedly. The orcs were actually dumber than he thought. Normal orcs would have stopped charging the moment they saw Nox transform into a wolf the size of an airplane. But these morons just kept charging.
Now there were basically no traces of orcs left in the settlement.
Some of them were now inside Nox's stomach. Some of them were erased by [Reality Magic] that Lars had casted; a unique type of magic only accessible by the [Arch Sage]. Lars looked at his hands. The biggest thing he had killed in the past was a deer, which he shot when Jin took him and Randy hunting that one time. Lars remembered not really feeling any emotion when he shot it with a gun. Perhaps he would have felt something if he had killed the deer with his own hands or at least with a melee weapon, but he didn't particularly feel shaken or remorseful from using a gun to do the deed.
That feeling was similar to what he was feeling right now. He had activated a spell, then all the orcs in front of him just vanished. He didn't feel guilty, or feel anything really.
"Oh this is your first time killing something, right master?" Lillian chirped from Lars' right. She took the opportunity to latch onto him, trapping his arm in a soft embrace.
'Wahhhh. This is nice...' Lars closed his eyes and enjoyed the feeling for a bit, before answering. "I killed a deer before, but that was about it."
"How do you feel?" Lillian asked, while also pushing her face closer to his own. Her incredibly pleasant fragrance invaded Lars' nostrils right into his brain.
"I don't really feel anything." Lars said. 'I don't feel anything about the killing thing, but I sure am feeling something right now...'
"Master, I've brought some of them, as you asked." Zeyziel landed from the sky, with 3 orcs restrained by chains that seemed to be made of light. "Why did you want to leave 3 alive?"
"Because I didn't get an opportunity to use [Sage Eyes] on them before I wiped a bunch of them off the planet." Lars looked at the 3 restrained orcs, who were still struggling to break free of their bindings, baring their teeth at Lars. They looked like they wanted to eat him. Lars was unperturbed for some reason, despite how scary they looked.
'Maybe it's cuz I know I can kill them all instantly?' Lars thought then used his [Sage Eyes] on one of the orcs.

"God. They don't even have names." Lars viewed the other two's character sheets, and the were pretty much the same, except one of them had a D in Magic, and another had a D in Leadership. "They're stats are pretty much the same as ordinary orcs... But normal orcs are D in Intelligence."
"So they're even dumber...? I kind of pity them at this point." Lillian looked at the three with a hint of condolence.
"What do we do with these?" Azkal gestured towards the three restrained orcs.
"..." Lars thought for a bit, then said. "Make it look like a monster rampaged here. Luckily, we have a monster right here." Lars pointed at the Giant wolf.
Nox, understanding Lars' intentions, walked up to the tents and gently pawed at them. Even though he didn't put to much force on it, the tents still fell apart, its bits and pieces flying in different directions. Nox seemed to find these entertaining, he even started experimenting with how far he could make them fly without the pieces shattering to dust first.
Lars just left him to his game, but he called out to it. "We're going now, just come back when you're done!"
Lars didn't wait for the beast to respond, he immediately cast [Warp Portal] which left a portal that connected 2 locations in the point he specified. Even after he and the others use it, it would still remain there in time for Nox to use it.
"Let's go home." Lars said. "It's about time for lunch."
"Mm. I'm sure you'll find the maids' cooking to you liking." Lillian chirped happily from Lar's side, while still having his arm locked in her... parts. "You'll also find other things about them to your liking, I'm sure."
"Ehem." Lars did not miss the implied meaning in Lillian's words. The maids were all succubi, and since Lars was a straight man, he would naturally find quite a lot of things to like about them. Still, he found it a bit inappropriate to talk about these kinds of things in the company of others. He couldn't help but marvel at Lillian's shamle-- boldness. He decided to just shove the subject to the side for now. "Perhaps."
"Yes~♪! Anytime you wish." Lillian smiled while tightening her hold on Lars' arm. She gazed intently at Lars. "But I'm first, okay master?"
"..." Lars' face couldn't help but heat up from that. He had met (and done other things) with bold and upfront women before, but he was really at a loss for how forward Lillian was with her advances. Still, he didn't hate it. Lars had had enough of difficult things, he liked it when everything was easy. He tried his best to calm himself and whispered to Lillian, "Maybe later. Behave for now, okay?"
"Ah..." Lillian didn't seem to expect Lars to respond like that. She was shocked at first but then a faint blush appeared on her face. She let go of Lars' arm and tilted her head down a little as she followed behind him. She then said quietly, "Yes, master."
"..." Zeyziel, who had watched the entire exchange from the side, had a dark look on her face, but didn't say anything.
Lars had been looking forward the entire time, so he didn't notice the succubus' shyness. He said, while taking a step towards the portal.
"Gill should be about done with preliminary prep." He said, while taking a step towards the portal. "Now that we're sure that our [Territory] isn't right next to anything dangerous, we should talk about our plans going forward, as well as what to invest our resources on."
'I should also start thinking about how to spend this crazy amount of super essence...' Lars was currently looking at his Dungeon's status screen.
Dungeon Name: None Dungeon Master: [Lars Cromwell] Dungeon Essence: 34 / 10,000 (100 per hour) Super Dungeon Essence: 9,999,999,999 [Heroic] Units: [Gilliam]

[Morph] 10,000 / 10,000

[Homunculus] 100,000 / 100,000
'Holy...' Lars remarked inwardly. $1 was worth 1 [Super Dungeon Essence], so his 1 Billion dollar lottery winnings would have been converted to 1 Billion super essence. The reason why it was worth so little was to create balance between whales and commoners in the game. Added to the fact that super essence could be obtained in a lot of other ways, the game made the conversion rate like that to discourage excessive whaling, and encourage the players to play the game if they wanted to get better.
Lars was also of the opinion, that majority of the players would've really taken their pitchforks and knives to the company's headquarters, if whales ate up all the [Heroic] units.
However that still left 8,999,999,999 essence unaccounted for. His tesla, condo and custom-built PC couldn't have possibly been worth 8.9 Billion dollars.
Lars, of course, hadn't spent much of his parents' money. He remembered that there was a few million dollars left of it in the account. He couldn't have possibly earned 8.9 billion being an employee at a software engineering company.
The only other source of this massive essence, would be the estimated highest value of the shares Lars owned.
'What the are those guys going to do!? Why are the shares of their companies so valuable!?' Lars was bewildered inwardly, however he snapped out of it soon.
It was a good thing, after all. One must not punch a gift horse in the mouth.
'I think I got that expression wrong but whatever... In any case, it's good to be rich!' Lars grinned happily. But then he looked at the number of super essence sadly. 'Do I have to spend it though...? It's such a satisfying looking number... all 9s! It's like the max number of items in a game!'
Let it be known that Lars had a very... strange set of quirks when he played games.
One of them was that he was a scrimp. When choosing whether to use a consumable item to make things easier for himself or not using it, Lars was the type of gamer that would choose the latter.
Second, he had a strange fixation on 'max number of items'. Usually, in games, these would either be 99 or 999.
His habits were so bad, that he would challenge the final boss of an RPG with 99 elixirs. This would happen 100% of the time! And he wouldn't even use any of them in the final battle!
Of course, these strange quirks rarely made their appearance when he was playing Dungeon Invasion.
However, this was not because he somehow had better control of his actions while playing this particular game.
It was just because there weren't any maximum items in the game.
But now, his the number shown as his [Super Dungeon Essence] looked like it was the max number of super essence a player could possess. Lars' heart couldn't help but race when he looked at it. There was just something extremely satisfying about the number.
'Yeah... let's not spend it...' Lars hesitantly decided. He was aware of how foolish it was, but he really didn't want to ruin this perfect number, if he could. 'Well, since I would die if the Dungeon Core gets wrecked, I would naturally use it then. I'm not that dumb...'
While looking fondly at the number, Lars continued his steps forward, with his loyal heroes following behind him.
