The Fire of The Daleks: Part 5

"She's just a child"

"I don't care. You sent me down. You betrayed me when I tried to help you."

In the middle of the war zone the city had become, this former prisoner had managed to track down the woman who he hated more than anyone else on Heglozia, Fastera. The prisoner had been in love with Fastera for almost his entire life, and during the famine the two had entered into a relationship. Unfortunately however when Fastera's daughter had stolen some food out of desperation, she framed the former prisoner for the theft.

She had no choice. Under Asica's laws, Fastera's daughter would have gone to prison and she couldn't bare to lose her child. Every night she had felt guilt over her actions, but she didn't regret them. Until now. Fastera's daughter had thrown herself in front of her mother and pleaded with the former prisoner. Fastera did not fear death, but she didn't want her daughter to see her die and begged her former lover to let the child go.

"I loved you". The former prisoner said as he prepared to fire.

"I'm sorry" Fastera said, genuinely. "I didn't want to hurt you. I just couldn't lose her. Please don't let her see this."

Fastera's daughter cried and pleaded. "Don't kill my mum. It was my fault I'm sorry, please."

The former prisoner still pointed his gun at Fastera, but after a few moments he lowered it.

"You'd better get out of here". He said. "The streets aren't safe." He would never really have done it. He had been a good man once. Sadly however like most of the people on this planet the desperation of the war had changed him, made him a mere shadow of his former self. Neither Fastera or her daughter even acknowledged what the former prisoner said however. Instead they both stared up at the sky in absolute horror. As the prisoner turned around he saw the most terrifying sight he had ever seen. Hundreds of thousands of Daleks flying toward the city. No one else below had noticed. They were all too busy fighting and killing each other.

The prisoner and Fastera ran through the chaos shouting at everyone to flee but it was no use. In a matter of seconds the Daleks were over the city and started to open fire.

"EXTERMINATE" the monsters all started to shout in unison as their rays cut down men, women, even children and levelled entire buildings. There was nowhere to hide from the monsters. Some tried to fight back, including the prisoner, but they were the first to be cut down. In less than twenty minutes all that was left of the city were ruins and flames. Only a handful of civilians had managed to flee to the wilderness outside, Fastera and her daughter among them. They tried to hide under some nearby rocks, as more and more Daleks descended from the sky.

"ALL HEGLOZIANS MUST BE EXTERMINATED" A black Dalek that hovered in the centre of the swarm of Daleks screeched. "THERE WILL BE NO PRISONERS. THIS PLANET WILL BE CLEANSED!"

"It can't be, it can't" one of the civilians said from behind. "They're here' we're doomed. Our entire world." He then put a gun to his head. The others tried to stop him but they were too late.

Unfortunately his gunshot alerted the Daleks and they swarmed the few survivors who all ran in different directions only to each be gunned down. Fastera and her daughter were the last two to be cornered by the Daleks.

The two embraced for their final moments. Fastera much like her former lover was not a bad person. She had just been forced to go to such extreme lengths to protect her daughter. Now it had all been for nothing.

"EXTERMINATE!"

The Doctor, Dana and Asica stared at the ruins of the generator for a few seconds, none of them sure what their next move was.

"We need to get back to the palace." The Doctor said.

"You what? Why?" Asica replied.

"Zoella, she sacrificed herself so we could get away. If there's a chance she's still alive we have to help her."

"What about the people out there?" Asica asked.

The Doctor hesitated to respond. "We have to focus on helping who we can now."

"What are you saying? That there is no hope for my people."

"I don't think there's hope for any of us now. If the Daleks find the TARDIS before we do, we're finished."

"Then shouldn't we reach the TARDIS first" Dana said.

"We'd never make it. It's across so much open field, we'd be cut down. We have to find some other form of transport first."

Suddenly the trio heard several screams down the corridor followed by the all too familiar battle cry of the Daleks.

"EXTERMINATE, EXTERMINATE!"

"We have to get out of here now" the Doctor said as he darted down the corridor. As the trio ran they heard the sound of several of the rebels pleading, begging with the Daleks, that they just wanted the fighting to end only to be gunned down.

The trio soon came across the young rebel woman whose kneecap Asica had shot.

"Please help me" she pleaded with the three of them. "They're killing everybody."

"Now you want my help? You fools helped it destroy the generator." Asica said bitterly.

A case of literary theft: this tale is not rightfully on Amazon; if you see it, report the violation.

"We can't just leave her" Dana protested.

"She deserves it. Besides she'd only slow us down." Asica said as he headed down the corridor. The Doctor hesitated for a moment. He knew Asica was right. They needed to get out of here fast, and she had helped to bring the monsters down on them. Still he would never forgive himself if he left her and so the Doctor lifted the young woman up over his shoulders.

The Doctor, Dana and Asica were soon forced to hide in a small room as three Daleks glided by. The rebel girl was whimpering from the pain in her leg, but Dana put her hand over the girls mouth and put her finger over her own lips. The slightest noise and it would be all over for them.

The Doctor couldn't bare to look at the three Daleks they repulsed him so much. He wanted to tear their putrid, withered bodies from their casings and rip them apart with his bare hands. He wanted to kill every single last one of the monsters not just on this world, but across the galaxy. Still he had to keep his cool. The only option right now was to flee. There was no weaponry on this world that could harm them. If only the Doctor and Dana had arrived earlier in the war when the planets were still united he might have been able to sway the battle in the Heglozians favour. Now he could only hope to help a few of their people escape to another planet.

"They're gone, we need to move now". The Doctor said. When the four made it outside however they could see hundreds of Daleks above. Fortunately none of the metal monsters noticed them. The Daleks were all heading towards the main cities instead. In the distance the Doctor, Asica, Dana and the rebel girl could see flames and corpses strewn across the wastelands.

"We're all dead. All of us, there's nothing we can do" Asica said as he sank to his knees.

"Shh" The Doctor said quietly. "Don't make a sound. I don't have time to convince you. Come on."

The three slowly and quietly walked across the wastelands with Dana looking up at the Daleks to warn the others if any of them had noticed them. Unfortunately whilst they were busy looking up at the sky, they failed to notice one of the Daleks creeping up from over a nearby hill.

"STAY WHERE YOU ARE!" The monster shouted.

The Dalek scanned the Doctor and Dana who it felt looked somewhat different to the other inhabitants of this planet. . "YOU ARE NOT OF THIS WORLD! EXPLAIN! EXPLAIN!"

"Well what can I say my life story is one of adventure, discovery and I'm proud to say, one that involves lots and lots of humiliating defeats for the Daleks" the Doctor said in a mock cheerful tone.

Dana reached into the earth and threw a slab of dirt at the Daleks eye stick, temporarily blinding the creature. In its panic it fired, but fortunately its ray missed them. The Doctor placed the young rebel girl on the floor and told her not to move. Dana and Asica meanwhile rushed the Dalek and grabbed it from either side, whilst the Doctor held it from behind. All three struggled to even hold the monster in place its strength was so great. The Dalek swivelled its mid section 360 degrees, knocking all three of them off. Its mid section then turned to face the Doctor, but Dana jumped up and kicked the Dalek with all her might. She barely moved it an inch and nearly broke her foot on the metal. Still she distracted the Dalek long enough for the Doctor to attempt to wrestle with the monster again. Up above the Doctor could see one of the flying Daleks aiming its gun at them. "Watch out" The Time Lord shouted to Dana and Asica as the Dalek above fired. All three jumped out of the way only for the Dalek above's ray to hit the Dalek on the ground.

After the Dalek below's top section blew up, the Doctor grabbed its gun and fired up at the other monsters in the sky. He moved the Dalek gun to full setting which doused the entire area up above with radiation killing ten Daleks at once.

The young rebel woman meanwhile had managed to limp to safety behind a nearby rock. The Doctor tried to run towards her, but one of the surviving Daleks flew there first. The Doctor tried to shoot first but the Dalek managed to blast the young woman on full power. The Doctor, Dana and Asica were barely able to scramble to safety as the entire area was overrun with radiation. Asica was still caught in the very edges of the rays blast which singed his skin and hair. It didn't kill him, but the pain was so overwhelming he could barely stand up. Every single part of his body hurt.

"Just leave me, I can barely walk." He said.

"No like I said, we don't leave anyone behind." The Doctor replied as he and Dana helped the former monarch up. The Doctor then fired back at the Dalek and blew the monster up in the sky.

"If only she'd listened and not tried to crawl away we could have got to her in time. We need to stick together if we have any hope of getting through this." The Doctor said as he looked at the young rebel woman's corpse whose face was twisted into the most heinous expression of agony.

"What's that?" One of the rebels asked about the sound of something breaking in the distance.

"I don't know maybe the people gathering outside to celebrate their brave new heroes." Zoella said with disdain. The rebels took no notice of her however.

"We haven't heard anything back from the commander in a while." One of the rebels said. The whole room began to shake and the three rebels soon heard the croaking sound of a Dalek coming from above.

"HUMANOID LIFE FORMS DETECTED! ADVANCE! ADVANCE!"

"They're here!" Zoella said in panic. "You have to release me now. We all have to get out of here", but again the rebels took no notice of her.

"It's okay. We can reason with them." One of the rebels said to himself. "They want this war over as much as we do."

"You idiots!" Zoella shouted, which finally prompted a response from one of the rebels who hit her in the face.

"Maybe when we give them one of the soldiers whose slaughtered their kind in cold blood they'll be happy."

Zoella just laughed as the Daleks drew closer. Up above there was the sound of fighting and rubble started to fall from the ceiling.

"I'm sure those poor misunderstood Daleks are just thanking you for toppling the evil king" Zoella said.

As the ceiling began to collapse, the lock holding Zoella's chains broke too and she was able to escape. Whilst the rebels guarding here were distracted by the Daleks, Zoella wrapped her chain around one guards neck and snapped it in a matter of seconds. The other guard turned around aiming his gun, but Zoella punched him in the face with her chains and didn't stop hitting him on the floor until he was dead.

After the gruesome deed was done, Zoella looked up to see her son standing there in shock at what his mother had done.

"I didn't ever want you to see this. I swore I'd do anything to keep you safe. Even if that meant missing you grow up, even if that meant becoming... this. I don't care if you hate me. Just as long as you are alive at the end of this."

To her surprise however Zoella's little boy hugged her.

"Mother I could never hate you. I've missed you so much."

"I know son. I promise that no matter what we're going to get out of here."

Zoella walked slowly ahead of the young boy. She had to hold her chains up by one arm. The weight on her broken arm was unbearable, but she didn't even flinch once such was her determination.

As Zoella looked around the corner she saw one Dalek gliding towards her.

"HALT STAY WHERE YOU ARE!" It screamed. Zoella surprisingly however turned to face it with her non broken arm up.

"Well I'm here. I take it you don't come in peace?" She said sarcastically. The Dalek raised its gun to her, but Zoella threw her chain into the Daleks eyestick, temporarily distracting it. She then wrenched the Dalek's gun out of its socket and shot the monster dead.

"I can't tell you how satisfying that was." She said to her son. From behind the Dalek however, Zoella could see more of the metal monsters emerging down the dark corridors. As she and her son tried to run back the way however, more Daleks came down that direction too. They were trapped with seemingly no hope of escape.
