Lord’s daily life continued on as such for a while:
Every day, he would wake up, eat, do homework, and sleep.
He never seemed to grow bored of this schedule, and he never seemed to want to play with the children he was introduced to.
It reached the point where little Lorde would study late into the night and early into the morning, above and beyond what he had been tasked with. He did not even discriminate by topic; though he had a particular attachment to medicine, because of his life around Doctor Lorde.
Angelica the nanny, who previously could at least provide some simple assistance to Lorde while he was studying, could no longer keep up.
His single-minded focus on studying began to have Angelica worried for him. In her experience, such obsession was not good for the development of a child. Especially a child like Lord, who had expressed an obsessive personality from a young age.
Doctor Lorde did not seem to mind Lord’s studies too much (he himself had gone through a similar bout of studies in the past). He proposed to let the situation continue, in the hopes that it would resolve itself. Lord must eventually get bored of his studies, right?
Angelica, who is an expert in raising children, wanted to swiftly take action to stop the studying before there was any more damage to this child’s psyche.
There was some back and forth between these two experts. In the end, after some pestering on the part of Angelica, she and Doctor Lorde came to the consensus that Lord needed a change in his life. This change would need to be drastic enough to break his obsession with studying, while also balancing Doctor Lorde’s personal wish for Lord to continue with the study of medicine.
Thus, the problem that faced them was what they were going to direct Lord’s attention to.
Because Doctor Lorde was frequently away for work, he did not know much about the daily habits of Lord’s life (other than from Angelica’s accounts).
That was not to say that Doctor Lorde was uninterested or uncaring towards Lord. In contrast, Doctor Lorde had drastically cut his hours and made great effort to spend time with Lord. There was an obsession in Doctor Lorde’s heart that he had grown to learn was attachment.
Doctor Lorde was attached to Lord; it was just that Angelica simply spent more time with the child. She was an amazing caregiver who had a great attention to detail, so it was only natural that she would grow to learn Lord’s personality in depth.
A case of literary theft: this tale is not rightfully on Amazon; if you see it, report the violation.
Angelica did not seem to mind taking care of Lord, despite his unusual quirks. She had always been incredibly patient and caring. These qualities were what had defined her as the go-to nanny years past.
As a comical anecdote, some of her frequent clients had been complaining to her because she had been working exclusively for Doctor Lorde for years. She herself did not seem to mind the work and did not have any plans to return to her old style of taking clients.
Angelica would constantly change up Lord’s daily schedule: arranging play times with other children, going for walks, experiencing theatre, etc. She played an even bigger role in the physical and social development of Lord than Doctor Lorde himself did.
Like that one time they went to a fair in one of the towns Doctor Lorde operated in.
“Now, see here Lord. You really should not miss this one!” Angelica was always enthusiastic. This enthusiasm seemed to be a genuine part of her personality, not a façade.
“Hmmm…” came Lord’s muffled response.
The image that Lord put off right now was an interesting one for sure.
This little thing had always been a fan of eating, and made no exceptions based on location. In fact, the fair was an amazing place to try new foods.
He had a stack of various snacks (among which was a favorite of Angelica: coconut-stuffed chocolate) in his left hand, and a book in his right hand. He was messily chomping down on snack after snack, while making it a point to keep his eyes on the book in front of his nose. There were already multiple stains on his white tunic and the pages of the book.
“Little Lord, use that brain of yours to remember what I said about attending this fair,” she reached over and snatched the heavy textbook from his hands. “I mean, where did you even get this book from? I could have sworn that I confiscated everything…”
“You forgot to check in your own personal bag!” >:) Lorde said with a devilish smile on his face. Though, the smile was not as devilish as he would have liked to believe; it was tainted by the sauce dribbling down his chin.
“YOU!!” Angelica was slightly at a loss for words, “Ugh, fine then, you outsmarted me. I guess it may also be a little bit partially my fault for always making you carry my bag…”
“Hehehe, I am the smartest!”
“Not so fast, you, I’m not done speaking yet.”
Lord’s devilish smile fell from his face. He knew what was coming. He tried to run, but it was too late.
Angelica came in close to Lord and used both hands to grab his cheeks. She began kneading and pressing, forming his face into all kinds of contorted expressions. It was very cute. She made it a point to do this at least once a day.
“Mom, stop it. People are watching.” Angelica took the motherly term of address in stride, she had been addressed as such by many innocent children in the past after all.
Normally, she would discourage the use of this term, but she did not do so for Lord. He was an orphan and having a mother figure could do no harm. Addionally, Angelica had some thoughts of her own in this matter.
In the back of her mind, she was thinking ‘If I am his mother figure, then Doctor Lorde is…’
Angelica giggled and let go of Lord’s cheeks.
She had been happy as of late. She had scored her dream job: she was able to spend much of her time with Doctor Lorde - and she was paid handsomely to do so, Lord was an interesting case that she loved working with, and she had no need to pay rent as she lived with the Lordly duo.
Really, what more could she wish for?
