Life and Death

Life and Death

How long has it been, since I’ve had fresh air in my lungs? When was the last time I felt the warmth of the sun directly on my face bathing me into its safety? A long time, it’s been too long, and I’ve been trapped here too long. How many people have I hurt? I know my death might be soon, caused by myself or by her. I need to get all of the events recorded down into the workings of my brain since I cannot write this, this is for when I’m available to.

I don’t know when that will be, maybe even never. It’s December, I know from the times I’ve seen the window and how cold it is down here. It’s also the fact that she keeps talking about spending Christmas together.  She’s a monster, we all presumed monsters were criminals and shady men but she defies the profile she is. I can only think of the people I’ve hurt: my mother, my father, my son, and my wife. My wife, lord help me I hurt the most precious person on the planet.

When she heard the faulty call from me to her she knew I wasn’t telling the truth. She knew the words omitting from my throat weren’t my own. She came here, she almost found me, and we could’ve gotten out together. But, Misao didn’t want us together. I can only imagine what she’s doing to my poor wife. Her screams and cries fill my ears and swarm my thoughts, my eyes leaked the muffled screams of heartache. I wanted to stop the pain for her but, just as quick as the screams started they died out. My blood went cold, I knew she was either unconscious or dead.

Every part of me screamed that she was dead but, my heart held onto every hope she was alive. I began hearing the small steps from above. One, two, three, four, five, six, seven, eight, nine. Misao was already half way, she whistles as a door opens and closes. Ten, eleven, twelve, my blood begins to boil, thirteen, fourteen, fifteen, and sixteen. There’s a creak and a beam of light comes out of the door, there she stood. Her figure outline stood ominously at the doorway. Click, the lights flicker on and my eyes begin to adjust and fixate on her. There she was, long black hair always curled, her blue eyes piercing my soul. She had black heels, a short white dress that was stained in red, her lips rosy pink and a mole under her lip on the left side. Her hands were draped in crimson and a few splatters of blood were on her face. Seeing her malicious smile sent me over my limits of anger.

A case of content theft: this narrative is not rightfully on Amazon; if you spot it, report the violation.

At that moment I wanted to make her suffer, she took away all my happiness, and I was not going to let this monster make an orphan of my son. I remained calm on the outside as my tears dried with some held back. She walked over to me, click-clack, click-clack, she sits down in my lap wrapping her arms around me. Little did she know today was the day of her final breath, I was determined to get justice for my wife. To fight for my son, to make her pay. She unlocks the cuffs just to get my arms around her waist and that is when I strike.

She had left a screwdriver in the basement a few days ago. This would be her fatal mistake. I leap onto her pinning her down as she begins to struggle “M-Mathew? S-stop, come on you don’t want to hurt me you l-love I!” I lifted the screwdriver to her eye I said and plunged down. The next moments I cannot recall. I just remember her going limp under me. I get up and drop the now bloody tool and sprint upstairs. “Loretta?!” I frantically searched the house until I found her. Loretta, my dear wife what has she done to you? All of her hair was burnt off and her nails removed. She was tied to a chair with vulgar words drawn in her. I untied her and got the phone from the kitchen and dialed 911. Loretta was barely breathing and her pulse was faint. I was going to make sure she made it out alive, as the sirens began to blare I ran out holding my wife in my hands. I saw the ambulance and cops come.

I hear those cursed noises, click-clack, click-clack, click. No, no, no, no, no I was so sure. The sun had kissed my face, my wife was here. I could hear my son’s laughter. “M-Mathew, we could’ve been so happy.”
