Chapter 1 • System initiated

Chapter 1 • System initiated

Moose switches of the computer. 3.40. He rubbed his tired and baggy eyes and decided to go out for a last cigarette before betting into bed.

On the way out from his house, he realized that gaming before a workday was not great. No shit. The air was a bit chilly as he stepped outside. He fumbled with the lighter, trying to lit the cigarette, but had no success — shitty fuck.

The dark sky above him started to roar. He disregarded the idea of thunder hitting him. After a few seconds, he finally lit the cigarette. His happiness was short-lived as the thunder against all the odds struck down. He blasts into nothingness.

Moose floated in the starry space. He was enveloped in black light. A barrier shimmered around himself. Where am I?

He tried to use his body to nothing happened. In fact, he couldn't feel anything. Did he even have a body?

Before Moose could react to the voices in his head, he suddenly found himself in another body. He had a splitting headache. Images of someone's life flashed through his brain. Childhood memories. His parents glowing faces, their tender love towards him...

" Hahahaha!"

" haha"

The first thing he heard was mocking laughter that followed with a voice that said," Let's just leave the trash here to rot and go back to Elder Terry."

Moose opened his eyes. He saw the back of them leaving, going up the mountain. It had taken a few minutes for him to absorb all the memories.

He quickly came to the realization that he had been reincarnated to another world. Don't panic Moose. Based on the memories, it was a world of cultivation.

He rose up from the ground and tracked his way to his cultivation abode, which was a "fantastic" way of describing it. It was a run-down cottage at the edge of the sect.

An outer disciple of the Song Sect, that was who he was now. He was bullied from morning till night. Not because he was an outer disciple, but because he had been betrothed to Fairy Jil.

She was the most beautiful female in the sect, as well as the second strongest core disciple in the sect. The higher tiered cultivation members of the sect didn't care, but the outer members and some of the inner disciples found pleasure in degrading him.

All right...Reincarnation, trash, unhappy marriage, receives a system and e-ee? Damn, is this premise to a novel? Am I the protagonist of some novel?

A grin spread across Moose's face.  Fuck it. Isn't this something that I have dreamed of? Become the strongest? Get laid and live a life of luxury?

Before I do anything stupid, however, I need to get a general idea in how much of an advantage I have with the system. I can't assume that I have a massive power since I know nothing of my current predicament.

Moose knew that this body couldn't cultivate any more. Kain, no...his meridians were shattered one night, and he lost all his cultivation. No one knew the reason, but from that day, he began to be bullies.

Most of his peers were at stage 4 and even 5. With the help of qi, they could empower their martial spirits and gain mystical abilities. Moose decided to summoned his martial spirit.

A black bear, the size of a meter appeared above him. He instinctively knew that he could boost his strength and gain thicker skin if he could activate it with qi. The problem was, he couldn't cultivate any more.

The higher your cultivation, the more your martial spirit grew. Moses didn't know about the stages above qi gathering. They were classified and would only be revealed until you reached the peak of the qi gathering realm.

Moose hope was the system itself. He rose from his bed and picked up a battle ax that laid under his bed. Axes were an excellent weapon for people with strength-based martial spirits. They had far more pure destructive power than other weapons.

He strapped the ax on his back. His wounds had miraculously been healed even though he was beaten down by the bullies, he attributed it to the system.

He left his house and tracked down the mountain. Fortunately, he didn't have to walk a long way down since he lives on the edge, where spiritual energy was scarce.

It took 20 minutes before he had entered the direct close to the sect. He didn't plan to venture deep. He had never fought an animal before in his last life. He had been in a few street fights, and that's why he dared to enter.

There were only ordinary beasts in the outer part. Moose was a bit stronger than a mortal, due to once being strengthed from absorbing qi. But.. he could probably only handle few animals, demon beasts we're out of his league. You had to reach qi gather stage 6 to be a match for demon beasts.

He unstrapped his ax and held it with both hands. The woods we're quite hard to navigate in since the vegetation was thick and the air was moist. Insects thrived here, they were a pest and very annoying, to say the least.

He had far strayed from the path. A sound came from the bushes. Moose was sent crashing into a tree by a large boar. There was a loud crash as he was thrown straight into a tree trunk.

A case of content theft: this narrative is not rightfully on Amazon; if you spot it, report the violation.

He became dizzy from the blow, and his ribcage was in slight pain... He stood up and looked forward. In front of him, there was a brown boar. It was rather small compared to the ordinary, and he thought he could take it on.

Moose readied his ax. The boar charged forward. He dodged left and cleaved of one of its legs. It was decapitated with ease. Blood sprayed. It only took a few more minutes for Moose to finish the battle. The boar fell down to the ground, dead from bloodlust.

----------------------------------------

He felt refreshed, the pain in his ribs had disappeared slightly. White particles that he could see with naked eyes flew from the boar into himself. He felt himself grow a bit stronger.

Moose was filled with happiness at the system. Even though he couldn't cultivate the usual way, his flesh was strengthened by this weird energy.

He had to get stronger no matter what, even if that was the path he had to go. Was he going to live the life of a weakling?

Moose continued his hunt. He found a few critters and small animals and managed to increase his level two times more. Moose's energy was refreshed every time there was a level up.

His body began to be stronger and stronger. He became more and more proficient in fighting as well. At first, he was easily ambushed, but he adapted slowly.

Should he go back? Just as he was going to go back, a roar shook the stronger. Should I go and check it out? He could always run away if there were too much danger. He made his way through the forest.

Moses found himself on the edge of a cliff. Tens of meters down below he saw a bear, the size of a minivan. It had terrifying scars across its bodies.

He froze from the terrifying aura that was spread out. The bear was tearing and ripping apart a big creature with its paws. Blood splattered and its jaws crushed bones with such a force that he could hear the sounds from the place he stood.

Moses's legs felt weak. He was shaking. Run. Moose forces himself to move. His back was sweaty and hands cold. Ha ran straight for more than minutes before stopping. He didn't know where he was. Panic had taken over him before, and his instincts had taken over his body. Fuck, I'm lost. What should I do now?

Why the hell did he go and check out the roar? He had been blinded by the fact the this wasn't a fantasy world where you couldn't die. This was real.

From above, a creature fell upon him. There was no time to react. A big snake coiled around him and squeezed. His breath was pushed out from him by the sheer force of the animal.

He grew weak. Seconds passed, and he had become dizzy. He tries to break free, he decided to hit the snake, but nothing worked.

Moose summoned his last strength and reached out for his ax. It took a lot of effort, but he finally got his hands in his weapon. He smashed at the head of the snake.

The creature let go of him, only to bite him in the leg. Weak and wobbly both due exhaustion and oxygen deprivation he attacked with all his force. The strike landed on the snake and managed to cleave it in two. He was wounded badly.

He was wounded and tired. There wasn't any time to look at the status points. It was soon to be dark, and he had to find a place to rest. Most predators were more active during the night.

It was a terrible idea to venture out in the woods when he had just gotten here. I'm an idiot. Fuck. He was so tired. It took him almost half an hour to find a cave that he could sleep in.

Luckily no animal occupied it. As soon as Moose felt relatively safe, his body couldn't manage to stay up anymore. Thud. He fell straight to the floor.

Moose woke up from the light that peered in from the opening. His pain had subsided, but one or two of his ribs were clearly broken.

There were a few other small wounds, the most troubling and painful was the bite from the snake. Moose sat up against the cave wall. He opened the status.

Five choices. Five attributes that Moose could increase. There was no information on what they may improve. He had to make the assumption than they were the same as in games.

He pondered on what to increase. He didn't know if wisdom and intelligence were useful for him. He was one in the woods. His first priority was survival. He chose to add 3 points to vitality, and 2 points to strength.

Moses really wanted to add lots of strength since he loves that idea. In all the games he played, he always went full power on his characters. But, this was the real world, he had to prioritize his survival.

Confirming his choices, he felt a massive warmth spreading through his body. He felt stronger, and the vitality made him feel a lot better. The pain subsided. Vitality didn't just accelerate his healing, he also felt a massive influx of energy. His stomach growled.

He had to eat something. His desire for food made him exit the cave in search of preys. The vitality he had increased d the quality of his body.

Fight the strong

Defeat a demon beast

Rewards: Restores ability to cultivate.

----------------------------------------

" Fucking hell," Moses exclaimed to himself. Demon beasts were a lot stronger than normal beasts. The most obvious reason was their ability to use spiritual energy, which he couldn't.

Their cores could be looted and sold for hefty prices.

They were used in crafting for imbuing weapons with attributes, setting up arrays and potion-making.

Moses navigated through the forest. He had to find something to eat. He had attuned his senses and moved more carefully, trying to not sound like an elephant-like last day.

He hid behind a tree. He saw a boar double the size from yesterday ahead of him. He braced himself and entered the battle with an overhead swing.

The boar notices the swing, but it was too late. In a mad attempt, it rushed forward and headbutted straight in Moses. Moses ax made a large wound across the back as he flew back. Surprisingly, due to the high vitality and strength that he had gained, he was only pushed back.

He made another swing and decapitated its head from its body. Wow... He had grown a lot stronger than before.

Moses grabbed the boar and dragged it to the cave. It took half an hour, and he fought a few stronger enemies that wanted to steal the food. He became stronger and stronger, the more he fought.

Happy and delighted, Moses found materials to make a fire. He improvised and built some sort of barbecue stand where he could grill his food. He tore a chunk of food and put it on the pole to be grilled.

He surveyed the area around him. He was a bit afraid that the beasts would come, but he had to take the risk. He had to eat. The meat was halfway done when Moses heard tussle in the bushes. A black panther entered his sight.

It was a strong beast. He couldn't feel any pressure that he felt from beings that had control over qi, so it was not quite a demon beast yet, but judging by its size, it was probably a top predator between normal animals.

Moses tore a church from the boar and tossed it to the panther. The panther was distracted by the flying meat, and more took his chance and rushed forward and swung his ax.

The panther sidestepped his attacks and counterattack with a swipe. Moses experience than before, Moses had learned that attacking with axes wasn't just slash and slash. He used the blunt side and parried the paw with a force that pushed it to the side. He spun around and slashed. The ax couldn't penetrate deep enough due to the panther reacting in time.

Roaring, the panther went into a frenzy. Faster than before, due to feeling immense pain, the cat vanished and ambushed him from his left side.

Moses couldn't react fast enough to block it with his weapon, so in a panic, he blocked it with his arm while swinging his ax with all the force he could muster, almost decapitating the cat.

Level up! x2

----------------------------------------

His breath was ragged, and his arm mangled. Fuck. He made his way to the meat. He took it off the fire, entered the cave, and squeezed through until he couldn't get any further inside. It was cold and dark.

The pain almost made him pass out. His vitality stopped him from dying. The only relief was the large chunk of meat in his hands. He devoured the food in a frenzy.

He regretted being in a hurry, and he felt scared for the first time since coming here. He was alone. Beasts were all around him. He had become stronger than before. A lot stronger. But... he had underestimated his foes and overestimated his own power. What if he couldn't defeat a demon beast? Was his path to immortality going to be cut short?

Am I going to die? Fuck no! I'm going to rise. I'm going to be strong. I'm going to live the life I desire. And...

I just don't want to die...

Tears streamed down his face as he fell asleep in the cold cave, while beasts fought tore apart the panther outside...
