BOOK 01 / CHAPTER 02: SUMMONS

BOOK 01 / CHAPTER 02: SUMMONS

Inside a grandiose and ancient hall, a small spec could be seen in the vacant center. A closer look, reveals a young man standing there. He was seemingly miniscule in size, compared to the monolith that was the hall.

The first thing one would notice, is the attire of the boy. He wore a casual white tee with navy jeans and a brown jacket. This attire was slightly out of place of his glorious surroundings.

Second oddity, was his posture. He looked as though he was going to walk away, but frozen at the same time. He head was raised half-way, revealing his face. Its features can be quickly recognized.

This was Yamato Shigeru. He was just moments ago, in a wooded park area near his school, but has now, somehow appeared inside this hall.

“Release.”

A word spoken lightly from within the vastness. And, simultaneously, a shimmer of white light, glows from Yamato.

“Ugh!”

With a grunt, he falls down. His breathing was ragged, as beads of sweat formed on his brow.

‘Where the hell?’

That was the first thoughts he could assemble, before being interrupted.

“Child. Take a moment to calm yourself first. All will be explained to you shortly.”

Again, a voice spoke from the vastness. This time a little louder. The voice was clear and beautiful to listen to and cause Yamato to ease his tension in reflex.

But more importantly, Yamato, raised his head to look around him. He could not see, nor feel any presence around him. This caused his eyes to cloud slightly.

In less than a minute, Yamato catches his breath and stands. With scrutinizing eyes, he once more casts his gaze around the hall.

The hall was truly enormous. From his position, Yamato could feel as though the place was even larger than Tokyo Dome. It was also quite exquisite. With several gold, bronze and jade ornaments decorating the pillars, spread out at great distances across the floor. The elaborate decorations cold also be noticed on the far flung tall walls, and on the fringes of window frames.

The elaborateness of the hall was further accentuated by the polished finish of the wooden pillars that were red in color, and the floor and walls that were almost greyish-white that had been polished to point of having reflections.

And last but not least, the grand golden archways and beams that held the tall ceiling, culminated an ethereal feeling.

Stolen story; please report.

Every spec of its existence, screamed that this was not a common place. The level of grandeur and detailing he could see was not something that could be man-made.

Upon these observations, Yamato’s thoughts roused him a sense of… relief. An unusual sense. Or maybe, a feeling of hopelessness or solemnness. He could not help releasing a sigh at his complicated feelings.

“Come here.”

Just as he had been defeated by the grandiose-ness of the hall, the voice spoken again.

Yamato had temporarily forgotten of his first confusion and emotions, until just now and was badly startled when he heard the voice.

With that simple phrase, Yamato was swept from his feet, into the air and on to a raise platform level. He was brought and seated on a luxurious cushion.

His reaction to being swept-off was almost mute, but he was still chocked greatly. After being seated, he had raised his head slowly and only looked forward.

And this time, came his third shock. His expression drastically changes as his eyes registered what was placed infront of him.

“You don’t have to be that surprised.”

Was the reply he heard.

Yamato’s expression had turn from startled to a blank and then to a shockingly surprised one. His eyes had widened to their edges.

Infront of him was two very large and bright silhouettes. Both, several hundred times his size. One large male and female figure were seated infront of him.

This look was registered for only a couple of seconds, before turning dejected for instance and back to his usual calm indifference.

“Apologies for my rudeness. I was completely taken by surprise, even though I had an inkling of such an expectation.

I greet you most humbly, Goddess Amaterasu., God Tsukuyomi.”

Yamato spoke with well-mannered curtesy and etiquette as he gave a slight bow towards his hosts. Not excessively raising his voice, but speaking in a normal way, he showed his respect to the two beings seated infront of him.

As he identified, the ones seated before him were, Goddess Amaterasu, the head of all Shinto deities and goddess of the sun, and God Tsukuyomi, god of the moon and the underworld, also one of two younger siblings of Amaterasu.

These were greatest and most recognizable figures from the world of Shintoism. Apex gods for the Japanese religion.

While he showed etiquette, his thoughts were processing at break-neck speeds. Yamato tried to comb his memories for a reason why and how he should have been brought here.

When the curtesy was made by Yamato, the Gods had momentarily stayed quiet. The two gods, gazed down at him.

“You are calmer than expected. Yamato Shigeru.

You should rejoice, second son and third child of the Shigeru household.

For you have been found and deemed most appropriate and strung by a string of fate to meet the call of us gods of Takamagahara.”

The first to speak this time was Tsukuyomi. He had a look of pleasant surprise as he watched Yamato as he made the announcement. Amaterasu also shared the same look as both looked at Yamato.

“Yamato Shigeru.

I shall explain to you the reason for why you were brought here.”

“There is a reason for it?”

Yamato replied to Amaterasu, while maintaining his expression.

“Yes. It is not because of anything you have done. For there has been no wrongs in your conduct.

You have been called here… because we are in need of help, and you have been deemed for suitable to complete it.”

When the first half was spoken, Yamato relaxed his mind that was over thinking matters. But at the second half when the pause was brought, he couldn’t help looking Amaterasu directly. And with the last part, he had an incredulous look on his face.

“My… help?

Forgive me for saying this, your lady and lordship, but I am but a mortal human. What could I assist the great gods with?”

His voice spoke cracked and with a look of utmost apprehension and pleading, looked at Amaterasu and Tsukuyomi alternatively.

“We can only apologize for the surprise and shock you may have received.

The request we have for you, is only something you, as a mortal can only do.

And you were chosen, not at random.”

Tsukuyomi spoke with a wry smile.

“Yamato Shigeru. I, on behalf of the gods of Takamagahara, beseech you for your aide, to help protect Earth world.”

Amaterasu took over from Tsukuyomi as she spoke mild but dignifying.

And Yamato. Had the expression of this most unprecedented shock of his life. His expression and mind were both blank with surprise.

“Yamato Shigeru. We called you here, to request you to protect earth. A summon to make rise a hero of unprecedented stature.

You have been called here, to Tamakagahara, the realm of gods, with the «Divine Summons» call. It is an ability we have not used for over a millennia.”

Tsukuyomi spoke promisingly, seemingly almost trying to speak favorably of performing the task and push is significance.

However, these words became a final peg for Yamato. His scrunched face, looked as if he had chewed on some insect. He finally fell backward, unconscious. His fall startled both Amaterasu and Tsukuyomi.

His final thoughts before being cut off were – ‘What ridiculous shit have I been called here to?’
