Chapter 11: Unexpected happenings and a gift (Part 1)

In the interest of keeping my fingers attached to my hands, I have split chapter 11 into two parts.

(this is being posted earlier than normal because i am busy later today and i would rather have it be released earlier than later.)

This is mainly because it is ~6000 words long in total. Thus, it has been split into two parts.

Part 2 will be slightly longer than this part because i was not planning to split this at first. I thought i would keep daily posts for as long as i can, and the chapters are getting longer and longer.

Anyways. Enjoy the Chapter!

Chapter 11: Unexpected happenings and a gift (Part 1)

I am currently waiting in front of the principal’s office. I was currently sitting down on the floor with my legs crossed. I spent my time watching the spatial energy float through the air.

It was floating around everybody, making sure not to touch them. It even stayed quite a distance from some people. Is this their affinity with spatial energy?

I sigh as I stop looking at the spatial energy.

I wonder how this latent potential test works. I will find out soon enough though.

The students that are here right now are all talking with each other about various things. None of them being important to me, I chose to sit by myself at the edge of the hall. The rest of the students are crowding around the door to the principal’s office.

Kelly walks over to me, “Hey Ryu. What was you realm in the other world?”

I close my eyes in response to her question. She sits down beside me saying nothing. After a short amount of time, I sigh, “You know my identity from the other world. You should easily be able to guess what realm I was able to make it to.”

She nods, “Is that really who you were? I thought that an emperor would act a bit more… you know… like an emperor.”

I shrug my shoulders and smile, “I left most of the boring work to my wife.” I look towards the ground, “Another reason why I still have to thank her.”

Kelly pats my shoulder, “You will meet her again soon I bet.”

I take a deep breath, “Meh, who knows. I just know that I won’t give up until I do find her.”

The door to the principal’s office opens. Two men walk out of the room and stand at either side of the door. A man wearing a blue cape with a hood walks out of the room, followed by the principal, Damion.

Damion claps to get everyone’s attention, “Welcome students! This is the latent potential test for the general arts first year class! There are a few rules! First, once the door is closed behind you after entering the room, take out your card and show it to this man!” Damion points to the blue caped man. “Second, follow his orders directly! Third, no yelling in complaint at your latent potential! Any further instructions will be given out by this man! Please form an orderly line in front of my office! One student at a time will enter! That is all for now!” Damion walks back into his office and the blue caped man follows him into the office.

The students all get in the line in front of the office. The two men stay at the sides of the door. They are probably there for security. The student in front is motioned to go into the room by the two men outside the door.

The door closes. Five minutes later the door opens and the student comes out of the room with a pale face. Several students were about to go console him when they realized they would lose their place in the line. The student slowly walks towards the direction of the classroom.

The next few students have the exact same appearance as they exit towards the classroom.

I frown, “What’s with all the horrible potential?”

Kelly turns around and hits me, “Be nice.”

I smile, “Not like you weren’t thinking the same thing you know.”

Kelly and I are at the back of the line. I will be the very last student for this group.

More and more students are coming out of the office with sad looks on their faces, some shocked, and some who don’t even know what kind of face to make.

I sigh as I look at the shrinking line, “Come on Kelly. Don’t you think there has to be a single person who has had decent results?”

She slowly nods while looking back at me, “There may have been a few, but just hid it due to not wanting to attract attention. Since we are the last two, there really will be no need to hide it.”

I lightly laugh, “No matter how much you ask, I won’t tell you the results of mine. I already know there may be some issues with mine due to some… let’s just say, complicated matters.”

She pouts, “Even if I tell you my results?”

I shrug my shoulders, “You can tell me yours all you want. I won’t do the same though. I have a feeling you will get to the ninth realm given enough time. I just have a time limit to get there unlike most.”

She tilts her head, “Can’t a different person at the ninth realm just heal you?”

I sigh and shake my head, “If it was that simple, I can guarantee I would be healed already. My injuries are worse than you think. Almost half my internal organs are fake. If a person other than myself were to try and heal me, it would end with my death, because I would not be able to heal fast enough. I need to get to the ninth realm myself. No one can learn my techniques either. They are unique to me… for a variety of reasons.”

She nods slowly, “Is it because you also have the power of hea-“

“Shh.” Put my finger to my lips, “Don’t talk about it so normally in front of other people.”

A couple students were looking towards us.

She nods and turns to look away from me. She stays silent right up until her turn to go into the office.

As she was about to go in she turns to me, “Wish me luck!”

I give her a smile and a thumbs up.

She has been really nice to me lately. I wonder what changed. I shrug my shoulders as I give up thinking about it.

I start a one sided staring contest with the man on the left of the door. He just looks into my eyes. He blinks first! I win! Now for the guy on the right.

The door to the office opens and Kelly has a huge smile on her face.

She looks to me, “I will wait here for you. By the way, you were right!”

I sigh as I enter into the room. Kelly gives me a thumbs as I turn to look at her.

The door closes behind me. Damion looks at me, “Welcome Ryu.”

I take out the gold card and show it to the blue caped man. He laughs lightly, “This young man has a gold card? Can I expect a lot from him?”

Damion nods, “Of course. He was an emperor in his previous life. That said though, he never acts like an emperor.”

I smile while putting away the gold card, “Thank you for the flattery, but that was the other world. In this world I am nothing but an injured young man with a missing right arm.”

The blue caped man laughs, “I will start the process then. First, you will hold out any hand. Then, you will wait for me to give the verdict.”

I nod, “Why did it take so long for the other students, if that is all there is to it?”

The blue caped man sighs, “I normally have to explain how this process works, but I assume you already know how this works.”

I scratch my head, “I’m sorry. I really don’t know how this works.”

He laughs, “That’s okay. I will give you a quick summary then. This works by referencing your current practice method with your previous practice method and calculates the realm in a numerical value. The technique I use releases a gray colored mist. If the mist does not form into a number, the person has no talent and should not be at the first realm. Then one through nine to reveal which realm is the peak realm you will make it to in your lifetime. I will tell you a legend that has been passed down through the generations along with the technique. The legend says that there are some people who have trained into the realm of gods. The numerical values for these realms are much higher than regular realms, but no one I personally met has ever seen a number larger than nine appear. So. Are you ready?”

I nod slowly and take a deep breath, “As read as I’ll ever be.”

He nods, “The hold out your left hand.”

I hold out my left hand in front of me with my palm facing up.

[Grading]

The man speaks the technique name. A gray mist appears around my palm. It swirls around my palm for a long amount of time.

The blue caped man frowns. As he was about to call it off the gray mist slowly forms into a two digit number.

Before the number even forms fully, both Damion and the man’s jaws have dropped almost to the floor.

I smile. I expected this to happen. I wonder how high these numbers will go. I remember that demon saying something about ‘Heaven Realms’ but I have no idea what that really is.

The mist slowly starts to condense into real numbers. My jaw is the last one to drop, but at this number, how could it not? The mist had finally condensed into numbers

‘40’

We all blankly stare at the location of the numbers even after they start to fade. The blue caped man coughs to clear his throat, “Well…”

Damion nods, “Certainly…”

I lower my hand, “This was…”

The blue caped man looks between me and Damion, “We shall never speak of this again. We will not even tell our wives of this news. This secret will die with us…” He looks to me, “If you aren’t immortal at that point.”

I take a deep breath, “I apologize for this. I knew it would be double digits and should have warned both of you beforehand. I want to note however. I never made it past the ninth realm in the other world. My method cannot be used by any other person in the entire universe. To my knowledge, I am the only person in existence to use this method.”

The blue caped man’s expression turns serious, “Where on the planet did you learn this method?”

I shake my head, “I did not stumble across this method. Nor, was there someone guiding me along. I made it to the second realm without using any method. After that,” I remember the crystal I had before my death in the other world. I wish I still had it. “I got the technique from some… things…”

The blue caped man nods, “I will leave immediately to go do research on this. I apologize for not being able to continue testing. This is currently a high priority issue for me right now.”

Damion nods, “I agree. I will talk with Ryu a bit longer, and get him to inform his classmates of the news.”

The blue caped man opens the door and runs out of the academy.

Damion quickly closes the door, “Ryu. Does this matter have to do with the people who want to kill you?”

I shake my head, “No. They just want revenge. This and that are unrelated. Also. I am just as confused as you are about that number. That blue caped man should be on his way to figure out what it means. I trust that he will keep it a secret. He seems like the kind of person that loves to experiment on things without really caring how the rest of the world works.”

Damion laughs, “You couldn’t be more right if you tried!” he takes a deep breath and looks at me with a serious expression, “That’s true. However, the other schools also have this test. I will think of a way around them while you just go to classes. To keep those around you safe. Don’t tell them anything. Words of that number d not leave this room. You, will possibly start to face a lot of danger if word of this leaks around.”

I frown, “This is a huge issue, but in order to not make anyone any more suspicious I should leave as quickly as possible.”

Damion nods, “I agree that that is the best conclusion. Go back to class and say that the rest of the testing has been postponed until further notice.”

I nod and turn to leave the room.

“One last thing,” Damion smiles, “Have a good date.” And gives me a thumbs up.

I shrug my shoulders, “It is just me repaying a favor. If you know that much you probably know about the rest of the speech too.” I wave my left hand behind me as I walk out of the room.

Kelly was waiting for me outside of the room and sees that my face is slightly pale, “What’s wrong?”

I quickly calm myself and take a deep breath, “No, it’s nothing… that was just. More shocking, than I thought it would be.”

Kelly frowns, “Are you not going to make it to the ninth realm?”

I weakly smile, “Oh yeah. I’ll make it to the ninth realm no problem. It is just that Da- I mean the principal knew that we were going out after classes today.”

Kelly tilts her head, “He asked what our relationship was and I said that you were only repaying a favor to me.”

I sigh in relief, “Oh, so that’s how he knew.”

Kelly pulls my arm, “We have to go back to class now. We need to tell them that it is the rest of their turns.”

I start walking with her towards the first year building, “The rest of the tests are cancelled until further notice. The tester… had some private matters to take care of.”

Kelly nods, “Okay! I’ll help you tell the class!”

I hang my head, “Why are you so enthusiastic about everything? Yesterday you were trying to stab me with a sword and today you have been extremely nice to me. You were nice this morning for no reason… I was expecting to be stabbed when you opened the door.”

She blushes, “I just wanted to be nice. I figured that being mean wasn’t the way to get close to you, so I wanted to try being nice.”

She grabs my hand and starts running towards the classroom, “Let’s go quickly! The rest of the class is waiting!”

I sigh and run up beside her. We make it to the classroom quite quickly.

Mr. Grey looks towards the door to the classroom, “Welcome back. Please take your seats!”

I walk up to the front and stand beside Mr. Grey, “The principal has told me to inform those of you you that have not taken the latent potential test yet, to inform you that the tester had some personal things to take care of so he has left until an unknown date! Because of this, the latent potential test has been postponed until the tester can come back!”

I look at Mr. Grey. He nods. He claps once to get everyone’s attention, “As he said the test is postponed indefinitely! We shall now get back to the lesson!” He looks towards me and speaks quietly, “I don’t know what happened but I’m just going to say, ‘Good job!’.” He secretly gives me a thumbs up as I walk back to my seat.

Kelly sits down beside me, “You seem to be friendly with a large amount of higher ups.”

I quietly pull out the gold card and hand it to her under the desk, “This is why. You know my identity. The rest should be simple.”

She shakily hands me the card back, “So that’s why.”

I put the gold card away again. Kelly and I start to pay attention to the class.
