So Much To Learn About

So Much To Learn About

A month passed by.

I could confidently now confirm I had been reincarnated to a different world to my previous one.

And by the stroke of heavenly luck, I seemed to have inherited my past lives memories.

Upon being born, my eyes glazed over to the sight of my mother, and later my father. They were both in their mid 20s, possibly younger, but both exuded a presence and a cool-headed nature only comparable to royalty.

And what would you know, they were nobles. Which automatically made me, their son, also a noble.

I would get to live out the life that all of us deluded about at least once...

Not that I expected that it would ever happen, though.

And being a noble came with many great struggles and difficulties you'd never imagine!

That being memorising the layout of the massive manor my parents owned...

Over a great crop of land, extending far beyond what I could see or explore with my prison cell of a physical form, was built this glamorous manor that almost reminded you of a castle from fairy-tales, but without the erected towers spiralling into the azure sky.

Built from slabs of polished quartz, the foundation of the manor remained pure white as it extended onto the second floor. At the entrance, two massive double doors guarded the manor crafted from auburn wood with golden rings as door handles that clanged gently against the opaque surface of the gliding material. Prolonged, flattened stairs then led to the elevated platform that the building was built upon and led from the cobbled path to the entrance hooded by two standing white pillars.

The place itself screamed pristine at its very core.

I had yet the chance to visit every nook and cranny of the manor, riding my faithful human maid chariot, but once I gained the ability to crawl...hohoho! No place in this house would be safe from me.

Speaking of maids, I myself had been given a dedicated maid upon being born. Her name was Mary and she was a beautiful and charming woman. With a crown of snow-white hair that hung slightly past her shoulders and her striking crimson eyes that contrasted her naturally smooth milky pigmented skin, her appeal was very clear. She was a rare beauty of features I never had the opportunity to witness in my old world.

Barring looks, Mary was a gentle soul.

"Hands up, Lu!" Mary giggled to me, her body lathered in soap equally to mine.

Mary lifted my small limbs and began scrubbing my body further whilst my eyes cascaded along with the endless stream of water calmly jutting out from a large opening in the white marble walls.

A chandelier decorated by translucent gems created the luminous that brightened the entire space of the large bath and reflected its glisten on the wet floor.

I wonder how they work, I thought to myself. Electricity, or any remote sort of technology didn't develop yet. This world was still very archaic, and whilst my old world contained certain old elements like swords and armour, they were very much technologically advanced and most suitable for combat.

"Almost finished!" Mary declared, grabbing a small porcelain cup and submerging it in the water. She then carefully covered my mouth, allowing me to still breathe, and began pouring the water over my body as she held me delicately in her small yet firm hands.

Finishing my bath, Mary quickly washed of the soap on her body and carried me out to dry. With a small, gentle and soft towel for my sensitive baby skin, she began drying me whilst I gazed at myself in my mirror.

My gold eyes whistled softly like the glimmer of the early morning sun and my small patch of equally gold, almost wheat-blonde, hair laid flattened on my head. My face almost seemed rather cute, I should admit, but I was unsure how cute due to me doubting my personal bias. Regardless, I seemed to have inherited the best features from both my parents. But my face wasn't the feature of my body that caught my eyes. That would be the small mark engraved into my skin stretching from my shoulder.

What on earth is that?

I realised that my parents and even my maid and the other servants all seemed to possess some sort of tattoo somewhere on their body, but originally I thought it is something you receive later in life as a symbol of being of the Zorath family. Contrary to my belief, I soon discovered I myself possessed one of these marks and soon ruled out my original theory.

My eyes now drew carefully to the "tattoo" plastered on Mary's body, unintentionally gawking at her lower half. Deliberately I had not intended for my eyes to fall so inappropriately, but the marks of the complex symbol sprawling from the back of her lower thigh to her backside had intrigued me deeply. A beautiful pattern much larger than mine flourished on her body and slightly seemed to distort my vision, as if that patch of the world glitched feverishly.

"There, finished." Mary muttered to herself, her hair flicking back as she finished drying and dressing herself. Her eyes fell upon me and she caught my rather suspicious glances.

"Oh my, little Lu you can't be thinking of such things! Your still so young, you can wait till then~." Mary spoke in a teasing tone as she laughed at my brightening face, though I didn't how to feel about her words which seemed a little more than playful.

She then quickly finished dressing me and we set off like intended.

"Alright Madam, we'll be leaving now!" The white haired maid declared from the front door of our manor's main entrance.

"Please take care of Lu and make sure you don't let him out of your sight!" My mother replied, her voice booming over the auburn coloured bannister as she tended to her still wet hair with a towel.

"Will do", she quickly acknowledged and her petite features of her naturally slimmed face and small rosy lips dragged down to my face, "C'mon Lu, there's a lot for you to see."

She slowly heaved the heavy doors open — my miniscule body pressed to her chest tightly by this loosely put together baby carrier holding me — and stepped out into the blinding rays of sun. The other servants, draped in their smart black and white attire even in this blistering heat, tended to the garden and waved at us with bliss smiles as we strolled down the path from our manor.

As the balmy days of spring threatened to fall into summer, the tree branches replenished with new hedges of abundantly green leaves, my time in this world only really started passing.

Mary was currently taking me to a rather small, but homely market just past our prominent stretch of land much like today in order to further accustom me to the language and experience the culture early on like she had promised my mother.

For that, I was grateful to her. Though as my personal maid she was assigned to teach me and help me experience the world, she easily could have kept our lectures strictly indoors and very textbook format.

Upon arriving at the market itself, it was the usual booming little place you'd expect, even in my old world. Filled with fresh fruit and vegetables as well as butchers that were lathered in the smell of blood as flesh was ripped apart with delicate handling. A real performance displaying the precision of the heavy cleaver slipping through the meat as the performer effortlessly swiped away.

People around the market would frolic around with their heavy metal-plated armour and weapons visibly drawn at their sides as if it was nothing and merely the norm. In my old world, it wasn't that strange to walk around with armour and weapons by your side, but in a town, market or city it was an easily punishable act, brandishing your weapon to the public I mean.

This world also seemed to be a whole lot more, how do I put this, simple. Archaic.

In my old world, our weapons and armour weren't the simple items bended in blistering heat and moulded into a shape, but instead highly advanced robotic suits that would adjust skin-tight to our bodies and allow us to perform superhuman feats fuelled by our armour's special source.

My eyes would constantly dart around the market to inspect each new weapon exposed to the rays of the sun and admire the old works of blacksmiths that I couldn't in my previous world. The old architecture of the countless buildings also fascinated me, built from not bricks but almost as if the world moulded them through some kind of otherworldly force unknown to me.

It was a sight that brought me great joy and split my mouth with an infectious smile. It was good to know that there was much that I could do with my time in this world.

Mary chuckled to herself, covering her mouth as her smile beamed at me. "You sure seem to be enjoying yourself again today, Lu." She commented and I could only fester a choreography of movements that loosely resembled clapping and cheering.

Mary had quite a loving heart, I realised. From the simple tasks of feeding me, to even changing my soiled diapers after unwilful excretion of waste, Mary seemed always glad with an earnest smile. On our walks through the market, no matter how little money we had remaining, she'd always stopped by and helped the homeless children begging for some money. She was naturally endearing and an incredible role model for anyone. A very philanthropic woman of a high moral code. I could proudly look up to her and be glad she was assigned to be my maid.

During our stay at the market, more things began to reveal themselves to me and today was no exception.

A gentle ringing of a bell repetitively sounded as its gold painted metal struck against each other upon Mary opening the door to the shop. Just like many other shops, the inside was modest, created from wooden planks, however in a darker almost burgundy tone. Rows of lightly dusted and cobwebbed shelves prolonged to the counter, leaving small gaps between each other for the oncoming traffic inside.

An old man stood from his chair behind the counter and spread his arms openly, a wrinkled smile unveiling itself. "Welcome customers, may I offer my assistance?" He politely asked, but Mary simply dismissed him with a small shake of her head and a raised palm.

She then curtly slid into the row between two shelves and began gliding along the vials, containing rather strange liquid inside of them, with her finger.

I couldn't possibly not gawk at these "potions" as my eyes shone in bewilderment, their liquid golden colour reflecting in the thick glass.

What are these? My world never had such "potions". Yeah, I think potions is the right word.

My arms sprawled before me unconsciously as Mary looked down at me. "You want to hold one of these, Lu?" She asked me, picking up the vial containing a sky-blue liquid.

I expressed my desire through my continuous groan as I strained my hands to also clench and unclench. She eventually understood and gave in to my request.

"Ok, here, but be careful with it." She emphasised, her hands positioned beneath mine as a safety net in case my weak limbs lost strength.

My eyes dazzled as I swirled the magical water inside. It was really like a fairy-tale!

"See Lu? That vial holds a medicine with the properties of healing magic. " She began explaining as my mouth slowly dropped. "The one next to that with the reddish colour is an elixir that temporarily increases potency of fire spells. And the one forwarding that is an elixir that supposedly helps purify mana."

As her explanation continued to drone on, I entirely zoned out. Not because of my disinterest in what she was saying. Quite the opposite, actually.

Magic? Did she say magic and mana? Like the power in those fantasies to draw on the essence of everything around us?

In that moment alone, I realised that my world was vastly different compared to what I originally thought. This world was similar in some ways, sure. But now with the existence of magic, I'm sure many things will exceed my original expectations. My reincarnation into this world continues to amaze me!
