Chapter 7 - Luisurandum est Magicae – Eye of the Oath 'Licarus'

Luisurandum est Magicae – Eye of the Oath 'Licarus'

The eye looked at us and I felt like it saw everything within my soul. It felt like I could hide nothing from it. This was scary. The eye was dark in color. It was a color I had never seen before. It was both the darkness of the night and the light of the day. The eye rolled to the left to look at me, then rolled to the right to look at the dragon.

This was the eye of the oath Licarus. The divine book mentioned it. Licarus lies in wait at the gates of heaven. It guards all that is true and all that is honorable. It is the oath bearer of the God's. Legends say that Licarus use to be a giant, but during the war of the God's Licarus died. Then the god's saw that Licarus was a truthful and honest giant, so they granted him this job. His eyes were to watch and over see the oaths of the world until the end comes again. At that time all the powers gained from the oaths would be bestowed upon him. With it he to will rise again as a new god. Ready once again to go into battle.

"Child of human and child of dragon. Why do you come before me?" came the thunderous voice of Licarus. His eye rotating around taking both of us into his view.

"We come to make an oath contract under your guidance. Your grace." I said suckering up to him. He was a god after all. Well, a god to be, but who cares. It was practically the same. We were just ants compared to him. He had the power to crush us at will.

"I see. I have not seen my seal used for many a eons now. Most of my oaths are usually performed via my underlings. But you have summoned me today, so I will overlook your oaths. What is the contents of your oath? Who is the instigator?" he asked turning his eye in my direction as he spoke.

"The oath shall be instigated by my side, your grace." I said. Licarus did seem to know that I was the one who summoned him. He was looking at me more often than most.

"Alright. Do you agree dragon?" he asked. The dragon nodded his head. He was frozen in fear of Licarus. Licarus was the closet thing to a god. So, the dragon was naturally very fearful of him.

"What is the provisions?" Licarus asked. Once again turning his attention to me.

"Provision one is that in exchange for my help in restoring this dragon back to life. He promises to help me create a second magic orb within my magic core." I said.

Licarus starred at me with interested eye. Then he looked at the dragon. The eye seems to have smiled. If eyes can smile.

"Do you agree, dragon?" he said.

"Yes" answered the dragon. Licarus examined him closely.

"Provision two: the dragon will sign a contract with me as my magical beast when he is reborn from the ashes of his dragon heart." I continued.

"Interesting." Said Licarus. "Dragon do you agree?" he asked.

"Yes" sighed the dragon. He had no choice in this anymore. I was the only one he could depend on. I did bind him through blood.

"Provision three: he will not betray or try to trick me in any way or else the oath will be void. Even if he is reborn his powers and essence will all be mine upon betrayal." I added sneaking an eye at Licarus. He did not show any expressions. Of course, he was just an eye.

A case of literary theft: this tale is not rightfully on Amazon; if you see it, report the violation.

The dragon yelped when he heard my words. He was not ready for such a provision. I snickered at him. Ha, dragon did you think I would not properly protect myself. I think not.

"Do you agree dragon?" Licarus asked.

"Yes. What I....." The dragon stuttered.

  "Agreement confirmed" said Licarus.

"Wait... I...." Said the dragon. He wanted to take back his words.

Licarus eyed the dragon "Do you have a problem with the agreement?" he asked, his voice stern and authoritative.

  "My essence..." squealed the dragon.

"Your essence will be fine if you keep to the agreement." Licarus said. "Anymore provisions?" he asked amusement showing in his voice. you can tell he was having fun.

"No, as long as he keeps his end of the bargain I will be fine" I said.

"Wait what if he betrays me?" asked the dragon.

"Well that is a good question." Said Licarus amused. His eye focused on me.

"I will not betray the dragon unless he betrays me first. This can be provisions 4" I added.

"Will this do for you?" he asked the dragon.

"I guess" the dragon sighed bitterly accepting the agreement.

"I need a clear answer!" boomed Licarus's voice.

  "Yes" replied the dragon scared.

"That's good. I here by declare the oath binding. If either side breaks their oaths, they will be removed from the cycle of rebirth and be forever damned within the helms of one of the 18 layers of purgatory." He said. A silver thread shot out from his eyes. It twisted in the air. Then one end wrapped around my wrist and the other end wrapped around dragons front paws.

"Good this ends our session. You may go back now." He said sending us away. As we drifted away, Licarus spoke in my head. "Young human the end is coming, prepare well. Your Magicae seven must be completed, for you to stand a chance against what's to come. I see much potential in you. I will give you a chance. Nine it is. Nine it stays scattered. If you can collect all nine, Sacris Magicae will once again return. If you discover the real sword of Solomon, then come back to see me. Perhaps one day you can stand beside me in the battle of the end. We will see if your future is bright or if it is dim. Good luck human child" he said.

............................................................................................................................................................

When I got back into my body, I felt a dizzy. I guess spirit traveling was not my thing. I looked down at my wrist to see if the thread was still there, but I couldn't find it. Instead I found a very tiny, almost mole size rune tattooed on my wrist. So, this was the mark of the oath. I tried to think on what Licarus said at the end, but sorrowfully interrupted.

"Roar!" The dragon howled into the sky as it descended onto the ground. "You...You... I can't believe I got trapped by you." The dragon said bitterly.

"Oh, buddy we're friends now. At least acquaintances. We will be spending a lot of time together from now on, so do try to be less sour." I said grinning. I finally got someone by my side. I was not about to let go.

The dragon hissed. He then turned into wind and drifted back into the dragon's heart in my hands. "Whatever, just remember our agreement." He said sourfully.

"Hey, wait! You said you were going to help me create my wind orb." I said talking into the dragon's heart. Was this dragon already dishonoring his words?

"I need to rest. We can do that tomorrow. Seeing lord Licarus has tired me out. We can discuss this tomorrow. First, please give me some life magic. I can't do my job if you don't help me get reborn" He said scornfully.

I starred down at the dragon's heart. "Alright, I will help you out. Only this once. If you don't follow our agreement. You will see my wrath" I said pushing some life particles into the dragon's heart. It glowed and started to show a tiny shade of pink.

"Don't worry, I made an binding oath. If I don't want to spend eternity in purgatory, I'll help you create your stupid wind orb." He said.

When I was finished pushing life particles into the dragon's heart, it started to shrink. Soon it was the size of my finger tip. I was surprised by the sudden change in the dragon heart's size.

"Is this normal?" I asked unsure if I should be concerned or not.

"Yes, it is. In this form my heart can be carried around much easier. You can place my heart inside somewhere safe. Make sure not to lose my heart. Or you will not be able to contact me" he said mockingly.

"Alright" I sighed. This dragon was going to be a handful. "Right, I never asked for your name. What is it?"

"My name is Carter" he responded.
