Alice Nightfall: Diary Entry 6

“Umm, Vintra? If I am too much of a bother, I do not mind learning the knowledge of the world myself.” I chuckled nervously, taking a step backwards.

Vintra furrowed her eyebrows, she was staring in my direction, but I could tell her gaze wasn’t on me. Gripping the sword with one hand, she brought it above her head and slashed down.

I closed my eyes and ducked, feeling the wind slash graze the top of my hair. I looked upwards and saw the serious look on her face.

“Vintra, what the hell!”

“Stay down.” she said, taking a step forward.

What’s up with her?

The snarls of something unfamiliar with me became apparent to my ears. I turned around to see a dark beast with glowing red eyes hurtling towards us on all fours from outside the forest.

The fuck is that?!

I scrambled up to my feet and stood a few feet behind Vintra. Squinting my eyes at the beast, I could see blood gushing out from its shoulder.

“Shallow.” Vintra uttered under her breath.

She ran towards the beast with her sword in one hand. It roared, stopping in its tracks and bellowing out a loud screech.

I held my ears, feeling like my eardrums were close to bursting. Keeping my eyes open, I watched as Vintra didn’t even flinch. She ran up the air like there were floating stairs and twirled her body as she jumped into the air above the giant beast.

The beast swiped up, but she brought her palm to it and blasted its hand with a smoking explosion. The growls of the beast grew louder.

Twirling her body, she brought the sword across the head of the beast and down to its body. The loud screeching ceased as Vintra landed on her two feet behind the beast. The ground shook as the body fell over. The glowing red eyes faded, the decapitated head rolling from its large body.

I uncovered my ears and slowly straightened my back. Peeking over the lifeless body, I could see Vintra with her eyes closed, taking a deep breath. She sheathed her sword and walked a step before teleporting right in front of me.

You could be reading stolen content. Head to Royal Road for the genuine story.

I took a step back in surprise, but quickly found my footing.

“Didn’t I tell you to stay down.” she said in a serious tone.

Ignoring her, “What was that thing? Don’t tell me those are the demons that have been invading the kingdom.”

Her eyebrows furrowed then her face relaxed. “Exactly that. That was a mere scout of the Demon army, the lowest rank of the demons that we know of.”

“H-how do you expect me to save you from that?! Also, why can’t you just finish them off? You took that beast down with one spell and a single slash. Why am I needed? Why exactly was I summoned?” I said, walking up to her, close enough to smell a… sweet scent?

“I cannot say. My only mission is to prepare you. I don’t care if you do not want to. If you die here, you will never return to your old world. And without proper training, you surely will meet a gruesome end.”

We locked stares for what seemed to be eternity.

“Whatever.” I said, turning my back to her and walking away.

I wasn’t about to be demon fodder for some Kingdom who will not even tell me why I, out of every other mage in that courtroom, has to be the one to stop the demons. Tsk.

“Do you even know where you are?” Vintra asked, loud enough for me to hear.

“Don’t care. I will find my way somehow.” I said, keeping my eyes straight.

I heard the whoosh behind me and I turned around, seeing nothing but leaves falling down. Even the beast’s body has disappeared.

Hmph, I’ll find my way.

I took a few steps forward, before realizing I left my wand on the floor. I ran back over and found it laying inside the rectangular box with the cover right beside it. I can’t tell if that lady is strict or just not able to talk to me without secrecy. Am I being petty? Hell yeah. I can find my way back to the tavern.

Looking around my area, there wasn’t any large castle or tower in sight. With only the forest from where that demon came from, I sure as hell wasn’t about to enter some place so treacherous. I continued walking until I found a small hill.

Walking up the hill, I could see the giant walls into the kingdom. However, it was across a vast amount of land.

It’s going to take me hours to reach that!

“Oh no, not again!” a voice yelled.

I darted my eyes lower, finding some person fumbling with fallen cargo. I looked at the slope of the hill.

I could jump into a slide and make it down there in about ten seconds. Nodding my head, took a couple of steps back and did a running start off the cliff. I waved my hands and legs in the air as I looke down.

Not good, not good!

The slope was much more steep than I thought. Jumping further than anticipated, the impact will sure kill me!
