On a completely random day, as I was going about browsing the library trying to find something slightly interesting I stumbled upon a silent and rather dusty corner of the library.
That is the day that changed everything about my life.
I discovered a book without a title; little did I know, it held the key to an infinite access to any universes.
As I sat here surrounded by people, yet completely invisible, I was filled with confusion.
My eyes carefully scanned the words I was reading in this old nameless book.
Its cover is blank, only a dull crimson painted upon its leather.
{Welcome to The Book} it read on the first page.
{The rules are Simple, Write any number from 1-infinite} it said right underneath its Welcome with nothing else.
Just a blank, empty, slightly yellowed page.
Flipping through the pages, there was no text that only furthered my confusion.
Deciding that this was probably some kind of mistake on behalf of the library's part I shut the book and brought it to the front desk lady.
Placing the book down on her desk I said "I don't think this book belongs in this Library, could you help me find some information on it?"
The lady with small glasses that rested upon the peak of her nose snorted in slight annoyance as she looked away from her computer.
Adjusting her glasses she grabbed the relatively thick book and began observing it for a few seconds, turning through the pages looking at both the back and front before she put the book back on on her desk where I had placed it previously.
"Unless this is some Youtube prank, you better get out of here before I call the guards to escort you out of here"
"Isn't there any way to find out any information about this book?" I asked, obviously this book didn't seem to belong here, it had no markings of the library, that made it clear that this book didn't belong to this library afterall.
Her eyes lingered at my completely serious face for a few seconds before she spoke.
"This is clearly some old diary that was never used what's there to look up?" She asked a pretty valid question that I didn't exactly have the answer to.
I had hoped there would be some information on it but I guess I was wrong.
Walking back to the table I was sitting on I noticed someone else sitting at the place I was sitting at.
Immediately I felt like going forward and asking that person to leave my seat as I still wanted to read some actual books, but due to my nature I just let it go.
I probably should have put my backpack on the chair before I left. I thought to myself.
Heading into the rows of the library I wished to put this diary back in the place I had picked it up from.
Reaching the familiar dusty corner of the Library I found the spot I had picked the book from.
Holding onto the book I slid it into place, Once done I turned around ready to walk away but I felt a tug in my heart.
As if it didn't want to leave the book here.
I began walking away but my own thoughts began convincing me to take the book.
No one will miss it.
It's not considered stealing if the library doesn't even own it.
Finders keepers And on and on.
Finally I decided to just take it.
Support creative writers by reading their stories on Royal Road, not stolen versions.
Walking back into the dusty corner, I grabbed the nameless diary and swiftly put it into my bag while looking around making sure no one was looking at what I was doing.
Soon a few days passed by in a blur.
One day, bored as I was, Just sitting around doing homework, I zipped open my bag to grab a pen when my eyes caught sight of that nameless book.
Throwing a few glances at my Notebook on my desk filled with mind hurting calculations and scribbles at every corner of the pages I decided to grab the nameless book and place it on top of my notebook.
Opening the book pen in hand I flipped to a completely fresh page.
Thinking of what I should write on it my eyes drifted to my book.
Then without much thought I wrote √1 on the page, all of a sudden I felt a cold breeze pass by my back.
Looking around all the windows seemed to have been shut.
"Weird" I said as I turned back around to look at the book only to see the book floating in front of me in mid air.
"Woah!" I shouted as I jumped out of the chair.
"What the Hell is going on!?" I said as I quickly took a few steps back in a hurry away from the floating book.
The book as if having a mind of its own lay down horizontally, the cover page flying open as the pages flickered extremely quickly, the cold winds coming from nowhere picking up, blac marking filled every page as it flickered by in a flash.
All of the pages passed as the back cover shut closing the book and with a great purple explosion the book blew up blinding me for a few seconds.
Rubbing my eyes open, infront of me stood a purple portal, about the size of 6 foot, Winds sending a chill down my spine as I looked around.
Stepping back slowly I hit the wall behind me, looking back at where the door was supposed to be, only the dry wall stood.
Looking around once more, All of the Windows had seemingly disappeared, looking closer there was nothing in the room as well other than my bag.
"Whats going on here!" I shouted desperately for some kind of answer, but the only sound I received were deep rumblings produced by this purple oval in front of me that looked eerily similar to what portals look like in cartoons, animes and movies.
Glancing around there really seemed to be no way to escape this room.
Suddenly the thought of my cellphone arose in my head.
"Maybe i can call for help" I said as i reached into my pocket and pulled out a cellphone, fumbling to turn it on, I was met with the no signal symbol.
Taking deep breaths to calm myself I looked at the portal in front of me, or at least what I assumed was a portal.
Reaching out I grabbed my bag and secured it tightly onto my back.
I didn't know where I was standing, or if it actually was a portal or not but to be fair there didn't look to be too many ways out of here other than this thing that looks like a portal.
With a hasty dash I jumped through the portal, The winds inside that room vanishing as I slowly opened my eyes.
My jaw instantly dropped as I wondered if everything I was looking at was real.
Humongous trees everywhere surrounded by skyscrapers even taller than that.
I tried to look to the very top of one such building and maybe sprained my neck due to how far back I was reclining it.
In pain rubbing my neck, I looked at the ground I stood on.
Thick roots of the trees that lay barren seemingly having died a long time ago covered the ground I stood on, roots that were as tall as me and thicker than me.
It felt like I had just entered a Giant's world.
A clear river flowing in a peaceful stream leading to places unknown as, as far as the eye could reach the river flowed, the dead trees stood tall and proud, roots of it encapsulating the earth and clocks, lots of clocks, I couldn't help but notice.
Everywhere, every building was embedded with a large clock, even in the skies with its bluish hue hung huge clocks seemingly attached to nothing floating in mid air.
The hands of all of the clocks at a different position with a guarantee I thought as I looked at as many as I could.
Tightening the bag on my bag I couldn't help but notice a watch on my wrist that I had missed due to the overwhelming sights of my surroundings.
A timer seemed to be on it, counting down and currently it stood at 29:05 minutes at every second the time seemingly ticking downwards.
Immediately I tried to pry this watch off my hands but it seemed to have been locked as I was unable to remove it.
Walking closer to one the giant tree roots near me, i Tried to smash the watch I was wearing yet it was completely unaffected, The watch still counting down unperturbed.
"What The fuck is going on !!" I shouted at the top of my lungs, my teeths gritted tightly when all I got in response was silence.
"God damn it!" I shouted as I tried to punch the roots.
My fist smashed into the roots that were as hard as rock, sending a shockwave through my arm causing my arm to hurt.
"Ow" I said, shaking my hand in pain as I sat on the ground, my back leaning on the dark brown root.
Looking up into the sky that was pitch black empty, Clocks defying gravity like it doesn't exist, building so mind bogglingly tall, yet not a single living being present, leaving only an impossible silence camouflaged by the cold howls of the winds and the waves crashing into each other.
"I just wanna go home, goddammit" I thought with tears beginning to stream from my eyes.
The crushing feeling of abandonment and loneliness setting in.
Rubbing my eyes, wiping the tears away, my palms reached back gripping onto the roughly textured root as I supported myself up.
"There is water, there is oxygen, there has to be life"
