Acclimation

A sheath had been situated on his back by Jordan and Kova was going for the weapon - gripping it by the hilt with both hands. It was a massive blade made of a black metal he’d never seen before, a greatsword which had ancient lettering engraved within the base. A shock went up his arms and through his spine, as if the weapon fused with his body and became one. It felt almost weightless, and he was very surprised.bThough it didn’t last for too long - he fell on his face with a loud thud

“aaaaAAAAAAAAAAUGH” smack, Kova shouted as he fell.

“HAHHH—Hahahahaaaaugh!! Well, it connected with your Mana Network, so that’s a good sign! The weapon chose you! Now you just need the strength to wield it. Let’s go!” Jordan said excitedly

Kova got up and Jordan helped him sheath the blade. Once finished, they walked to the center of the room and Jordan clicked his right heel on the ground, opening up a transmutation circle below the both of them - one that had a color shade of a starry purple.

“This is Spatial Magic. My affinity isn’t for space in terms of Magical Trait - However, this is just a simple transportation spell. Just about anyone can do it if you get a hold of your Magic.” Jordan explained

Kova watched in awe. He wasn’t too sure what was going on, but was still very intrigued. Before he could get a word out, the men were enveloped in what could only be described as a cosmic blanket, and they were gone.

-

The scene was unreal, he almost couldn’t believe that this was somewhere located on the same planet he lived on. There was mana practically flowing throughout the air, seemingly trapped within oxygen molecules - there was wisteria blooming throughout the entire grounds, with an abundant life of flora in the area. The atmosphere was clean, there was no smog or city pollution in the air, it almost felt like this was a newborn breath - the first he’d ever taken, as they appeared in the courtyard of the massive school before a fountain of gargantuan height, sculpted to a Warrior Archangel’s likeness. Around were various two and three story buildings, each in different sections - People of all ages, young and adult, going about their day. There were dorm rooms, a cafeteria with five star chefs, it was practically home to anyone who came. People were set up here, living the life, and Kova practically got a golden ticket to work with them

“Woah… What is this place!?” Kova exclaimed, shocked

“Surprised, are you?” He said with a smile “The Recondite Academy of Magic and Swordcraft is home to Orphaned Kids and Teenagers, who almost passed away in tragic accidents. The World Governments prey on people like us - They search for us to use for their own gain. So, once someone who’s established a magic network is found, we bring them here - To safety, where they can learn to harness their skills and defend themselves. Preparation for adulthood, essentially. Except our version of adulthood is a lot different from those who were blessed with a normal life. As you get older, you’ll understand.” Jordan explained

Kova’s mind started trailing. He wanted to explore, but as he started walking off, Jordan called out:

“Hey, hold on, you should probably meet Headmaster Katashi. Him and the other administrators, other than me! Once we get you situated with a dorm room and a testing appointment time, you’re free to explore until then. I’d recommend checking out the Sparring Hall after this, you might be able to catch a good fight going on.” Jordan said.

Kova turned back, he didn’t know there were others high up to meet! He expected Jordan to be the head administrator, but upon finding out there was a Headmaster above him - He excitedly walked over, and they went into the Administration Building together.

-

They stepped through the doors and were immediately met with a blast of Air Conditioning, and Jordan directed Kova to a seat on his left.

“Go ahead and wait here, I need to go get changed.”

“Alright!” He responded with enthusiasm

For a moment, Kova just sat there waiting as Jordan exited the hallway down and to the right, scrolling through his phone and checking his Social Media, before Jordan came back around in a full suit of Violet Armor and a new set of Swords. He looked a little different as well, his eyes were glowing - Unexperienced as he was, Kova could practically feel the massive amounts of Mana flowing through his new Teacher’s veins. He was somewhat intimidated, but nonetheless, in his eyes this had to have been the coolest thing he’s ever seen in his life.

“Yo whaaat!?! That’s fuckin sick!!! When do I get some armor like that!?” He asked, excitedly.

“Hahah!! Thanks, Kid. Eventually you’ll have your own relics and armor sets. These kinds of things just come with time. Come on, I’m sure everyone’s waiting to meet you.” Jordan said

They walked toward the elevator and Jordan pushed the button to go up, and as they waited Kova asked a question.

“Hey, Jordan.. How come you look a lot different now than before? Not just in terms of your armor, I mean your eyes and the swords!” Kova pointed out

“Actually, Kova, that’s a very good question. You remember earlier how I said your Spiritual Body fused with your Mortal Body at the moment of resurrection, right? Well, during your training - You’ll eventually learn how to access your Spiritual Body at will. This version of the self can wield mana and energy unlike any other. In fact - What you’re looking at is my Spiritual Body.” He replied, very straightforward about it

“Oh no way, that’s gonna be so cool!!” Kova responded excitedly

The elevator came, and they stepped in together, Jordan hitting the button to the top floor - The Staff Lounge, as it was labeled. When the elevator doors opened - They were greeted with a skunky smell in the air, and could faintly hear coughing in the background behind a wave of loud music. Kova knew that smell from anywhere. He excitedly walked in to see where it was coming from, and sitting on a couch in the lounge with a joint in his mouth was none other than the Headmaster himself.

The Headmaster was something Superhuman - He was not of this world, it seemed. His heavy presence indicated that something was off about all of this, but the tone shifted when Katashi spoke, tightening his ponytail and standing up. He was dressed very casually, with only a gray shirt and black tactical pants.

“Ah, Jordan! Welcome Back. I see you’ve brought us a new student!” Katashi said

“That, I have!” He replied “This is Kova” he proclaimed whilst patting the younger man’s shoulder “His Network was just recently established. Got ourselves a newborn!”

Kova, annoyed by this point because of the newborn comment again, replied with angst

“Well ha-ha you old fuck, then what’ll it take to get at least a smidge of respect around here?”

“Not being a little dickhead, that’s what” Jordan replied no more than a second after Kova was done speaking, slapping his back hard enough to knock him over on his face because of the heavy sword. The teachers laughed, sharing a moment of playfulness with their new student.

“Oh come ONN—” THUD, Kova shouted

“Bwahahahahahhahhahahahaaaah!!!!”

“Both if you need to SHUT THE FUCK U—”

“Careful there, big man, a mouth like that in the real world will get you knocked off.” The headmaster said. It happened in the blink of an eye - So fast that Kova didn’t even realize, that as he was trying to get up - Katashi approached, with one of his pistols drawn in his left hand, pointing the barrel between Kova’s eyes. When Kova realized it, something else was realized. His fight or flight response was seemingly geared to one setting.

Fight.

“Well if you’re gonna point that, you’d better SHOOT IT” he leaned his head into the barrel “DO IT! DO IT!! DO IT YOU FUCKIN’ PUSSY” his left arm reached back to grip on the hilt of his blade, preparing to draw it “FUCKING DO IIIIIII—” Within a split second, the barrel of the gun got smacked against Kova’s face - force distributed across his face strong enough to shatter boulders. He went flying, smashing a crater into the wall a half second after being slapped.

“ERRRAUGH!!! Aaaaugh.. Haaah… shit..” Smack, he hit the floor

Katashi busted out into laughter, “Jordan, I think we got ourselves a fuckin keeper!!! Hahahaaah!!!”

“Right you are on that one, Katashi, I totally agree…” Jordan said as Kova passed out.

-

He bursted up suddenly, sitting on the couch of the Staff Lounge, with his sword to the left of him. Katashi was gone but Jordan was there, currently performing what seemed to be a healing spell on Kova’s face. It felt like his jaw was shattered at the moment, he could barely move it to speak. He tried parting his lips to say something, and Jordan quickly interrupted him.

“Hey, don’t worry, just don’t talk for now. Let the spell work its magic. Pun intended.” He joked

“You… ass…hole..” Was the one phrase Kova was able to get out, slowly but surely.

Jordan couldn’t help but snort at the reaction, saying “Hey, I’m not the asshole who told the toughest motherfucker in this place to do it now am I? Anyway, a couple minutes and you should be perfectly okay, then we can start the Written Exam. Your Practical Exams will begin directly after.”

“…’kay..” he said, sounding defeated

Jordan pat Kova on the shoulder with his right hand, the left channeling Healing Magic to the jaw.

“Hey, at least he likes you. I’ve never seen him genuinely joke around with a student the first time meeting them. On top of that - When you were out, you had him busting his ass in laughter. You’re going to do great, trust me.” Jordan reassured.

After a couple minutes, Kova felt a lot better, he was able to open and close his jaw, and formulate full sentences .

“Your body is reacting really well to the healing. The rest will work on its own.” He stood up, and walked toward the elevator “You wait here. I’m gonna go get your written exam. This is one of the only places in the School that has WiFi, so feel free to use it - Password is Excalibur.”

“Thank you, Jordan..” he followed up

“Hey, don’t worry about a thing. You have some shit to work through and get used to. Not anything I haven’t seen before - and not even the worst, at that. I’ll be out for a few minutes, so get comfortable.”

Jordan stepped into the elevator once it came - and Kova leaned back in his seat, taking his phone out of his pocket only to see the time.

“Six PM!? Mom’s gonna kill me!!” He exclaimed, quickly dialing Elide. It rang around three times before she picked up

“Hey, Kova. Where you at?” Elide questioned

“Gear in for a fucking story cause do I have one for you.” Kova mentioned

Kova went on to explain the situation. He told her his whereabouts, or more that he didn’t know exactly how to get to where he was from the outside. However, he was with someone - Jordan - that could take him in and out. That he was enrolled in a School of Magic purely by the threads of fate crossing one another as Jordan and Kova crossed paths and that he wouldn’t be coming home for a while. But to tell their Mom and Dad he was safe, secure, and can be called or texted at any time, and most importantly - that he would be back to see them soon. As the realization that this was his Goodbye processed - he started to tear up over the phone, choking and coughing as he held back the waterworks

“Don’t cry!! You’ll be back soon!! And you’re going to do great, wherever you are right now. The moment you can come visit or give us an address to send you stuff, we’ll be the first to send you clothes and other packages. You’re always outside, anyway, it’s not like much has changed. It’ll just be a little while until I can see you again.” Elide reassured

“I’m sorry.. I really don’t know what I got myself into. We should’ve just stayed home that day…” Kova admitted

“Could’ve, would’ve, should’ve. Stuff like this just happens, Kova. Don’t blame yourself. I’ll tell everyone, you get back to work and do your best out there! I love you.” She replied

“Love you too..”

Click, and the waterworks started flowing - screaming, he grabbed his hair and buried his face in his hands. The elevator bell rung, and he quickly composed himself as Jordan walked through the doors with a Woman. Long, sleek red hair, jeans and a white T-shirt. A lot more casual than Jordan, however, in terms of weight that they carried in sheer magical potential and ability - It was almost identical.

“Ah, Kova! There you are! This is Kokoro, she’ll be administering your written exams today.” Jordan said
