Quest: 1.6 (Week-1: Weekend)
--- Jon ---
--- Morning ---
He stretched as he rolled out of bed.
The sun wasn’t quite up yet.
(What’s new…)
It was a habit he’d picked up from his mom when she’d drag him out on her morning runs. The same habit responsible for him leaving his cabin for the edge of the camp. Far enough that most wouldn’t see him, but close enough that he wouldn’t get in trouble if they did.
Once he was to his usual place, he dropped and started doing push-ups until he hit fifty at which point he held himself in a plank position and counted out to a hundred before doing another set of fifty and then repeated the entire cycle a second time.
After he’d done all of that he set about to running two laps around the entire camp, before making his way to the showers for a cold rinse and stretch that he slowly warmed up as the ache in his muscles faded away.
His entire morning routine took about an hour for him to finish at which point the rest of the camp was just starting to wake up.
(Okay, now I just got to figure out what to do with my weekend off.)
Normally each of the camp’s counselors got two days off a week, with the days moved around so that only one of them would be unavailable at any given time. Of course, because he and Ying were just CITs rather than actual counselors, they were both given the same days off since losing them both for a day wouldn’t really affect the camp’s ability to function too much.
The narrative has been illicitly obtained; should you discover it on Amazon, report the violation.
Unfortunately, he was also pretty sure this meant the counselors wouldn’t let him help with anything since it was his ‘day off.’ (Which kind of sucks…)
He guessed he could go ahead and help Rogers with his work, but at the same time he was pretty sure Rogers would still be blacked out from his usual midnight drinking. He also didn’t really feel much like helping the (old drunk) given the whole blackmail (extortion?) thing.
With little else to do at the moment he went ahead and made his way over to the mess hall, figuring regardless of what he actually did, he’d need a good breakfast if he wanted a good day.
Since it was still technically early, there weren’t too many people in the mess. (In fact it looks like Miss Edna hasn’t even started breakfast yet...)
Deciding to check if the head counselor needed any help, or if he should go ahead and start breakfast himself, he made his way past the mess hall tables and to a set of doors leading into the kitchen where he found Miss Edna staring blankly at a slowly filling coffee pot.
“Ah, so that’s what it is…” He thought aloud, causing the older woman to jump.
“Oh, Jon! Up and at ‘em already?” Miss Edna laughed between yawns. “Never have gotten how you’re such a morning person.”
(I’m not. I just get up two hours before everyone else, so I have more time to wake up.)
“I like that because of my ma.” He explained truthfully.
“Uh-huh.” Miss Edna nodded, though she was more focused on her coffee at the moment than him. (Which is fine!)
“Mm, did you need help with breakfast?” He asked, remembering how the kids had started to turn up for breakfast.
“No-no, I’ve got it.” Miss Edna waved him off as she finished the last of her coffee.
“That’s much better.” The camp owner sighed as she set the cup down and started moving around the kitchen. “So, what are you up to this morning?”
“Not much yet.” He admitted, pulling out a couple cartons of eggs despite Miss Edna’s earlier assurances. “I’m still trying to figure out what to do with my day.”
“Well, if you want…” Miss Edna began as she seemed to consider something. “I’ve got something I’ve got to take care of in town. It’ll take most of the day, so if you want to hitch a ride for the afternoon, I wouldn’t mind taking you along if you want.”
He didn’t really have anything else to do for the day so…
“Sure, why not?”
