You’ve finally, finally made it… after so many trials and tribulations, this is the end. A room filled to the brim with nothing, but a stark-white veil that covered the ceilings, which could threaten your sense of direction If it weren’t for the pulsating construct of energy just dead ahead. The Barrier, the fateful spell casted throughout this entire journey that gave meaning to /everything/. You’re going to pass through with the help of /him/.
Yet, contrary to what you might’ve thought, there seemed to be other plans for you. It couldn’t have been that easy, no. It would never be over so simply.
Distant laughter echoed throughout The Barrier Room, the wall of energy seemed to expand outward as it washed the entire room in a blanket of darkness. The very world seemed to recede into the obstacle until it, too, seemed to disappear in the depths of darkness. From the place of a barrier, a set of scarlet pupils shined.
[*Greetings, I am Chara.] A child belonged to those crimson irises, their features unobscured by the overwhelming amount of darkness surrounding them. Soft, brown hair lightly hung over their eyes in bangs, their light-green and yellow turtleneck sweater reminiscent of a being long gone. They held both of their hands out by their sides, a widening smile formed across their face, [*You… We’ve come so far to make it here, haven’t we?]
As the red-eyed child gazed ahead, the other child stared back with closed eyes. No emotion clearly formed upon their features… virtually wearing the same outfit, and hair-style, with very minor variations. It was a complete mirror, If it weren’t for their lack of expression.
There was no response from the other child’s mouth. Just… silence, yet thoughts passed weaved through their mind like a scarf. Memories of their journey… no, journeys through what some might consider heaven and hell.
[*I was so very scared,] Chara finally spoke, breaking the long pause of silence, [*I was alive? Could you believe such a thing? To resurrect from the clutch of death… It’s such a fantastical concept, yet there I was awake, and unable to do a thing.] There was a slight strain within their voice as they spoke, transitioning into a tired smile, [*I watched you, envied you, loved you, and hated you. How could I not? You were allowed to see my family while I wasn’t, you were allowed to help my family /while I wasn’t/.] They stopped. Their pupils slowly glanced down into the abyss around them.
Chara glanced back up, [*It was all worth it in the end, however. You, My Partner, showed me my purpose,] The other human felt their hand clutched by the red-eyed child, raised to the side of their face. While Chara stared with an odd affection, the other remained expressionless. [*I wonder If It’s fate, Partner. Something /had/ to have brought you to me…]
A tremor seemed to shake the blackened space around the two. Cracks begun to slowly claim the area around the two, weaving themselves through the ceiling… floor, and even the air? If one could consider those actually correlate with where they were…
Their affectionate smile soon lowered at the situation unfolding around them, [*Our time is limited. Let’s not waste anymore time, huh?]
If you stumble upon this narrative on Amazon, it's taken without the author's consent. Report it.
In stark similarity to their first introduction, the brilliant color of crimson made a bold return. Instead of representing an ominous pair of eyes, they instead belonged to two… words. Both of them ominous and unsettling in their own right… blood red: [Erase] - [Do Not]. It was self explanatory.
[*We’ve done what there is to do in this Universe… Timeline. Erase it and move onto the next, Partner.] Chara stood, their hand extended toward the [Erase] option, however the other child, standing in the midst of a crumbling Universe, placed their palm upon [Do Not].
[*Hm?] Chara visibly paused, their red eyes gazing confusedly at the blank template of a human. [*Curious. Regardless, Partner, unfortunately It seems you’ve misunderstood me.] As they glanced down at the abyss once more, eyes peering through the cracks formed within space itself, they released an amused chuckle. Almost bordering on a laugh filled with nothing but mania, the human picked their eyes back up. An ear to ear grin spread across a now malformed, melting face. Their eyes sunken in, decayed flesh far more prevalent than before.
[*Since… when were you the one in… /C O N T R O L/?]
Just like that, there was darkness.
[*Again? You’ve come back, huh? It appears you haven’t understood my meaning.]
[*Oh? I see. That look in your eye… You’re /determined/ to see this through, then? I suppose we can reach a compromise.]
[*Give me your soul.]
[*No? I’m not feeling as generous as to keep this deal open. If not, then you’ll simply rest here for ETERNITY.]
[*Perfect. We’ve reached a compromise.]
[*So… It is done.]
Just like that, there was light.
[*You’re quite the megalomaniacal pervert, aren’t you, Partner?] Standing beside the massive, bleeding figure of The King of Monsters, Chara placed both hands behind their back, leaning forward with a wide-eared smile. [*To bring this world to its knees yet again, what else can you be? Who am I to speak upon any of that? I’ve long since lost the means to understand such a thing,] Their soft eyes turned away from the gasping, tired visage of the large crowned monster. Treading across the buttercups he so painstakingly cared for, they grabbed ahold of the other human’s hand.
All it took was a flick. The knife cut through the air straight into the massive-goat monster’s throat. His pupils dilated, eyes fixated on the child he was meant to kill. Was there a sense of… relief in his eyes?
His lips quivered, releasing an unfinished name, “To…” before his body was incapable of sustaining itself any longer. Dust slowly littered itself across his garden, leaving only the silence, and gentle hums of The Barrier in the room over.
[*Hm,] Chara hummed out, eyes only narrowing for a moment before refocusing on ‘their partner’, [*Empty as always. I wonder what drives you, hm? Perhaps you love living out the narrative of a Savior, or a Destroyer…] Their eyes wandered across the tranquil Throne Room, though no answer came, nor a response to their own directionless comments,
[*This Timeline will inevitably fall apart, Partner. To waste this chance to repeat another senseless slaughter, I cannot understand you. Shall we move onto the next world?]

[*Ah. Partner. I’m sorry, you had no choice in this.]
[*After all.]
[*You’ve made your choice long ago.]
