PROLOGUE

"You moron, these murals aren't of a god. Or goddess for that matter, considering she died." The woman traced her fingers over the carved stone, which was barely lit by her lamp. Her diamond-shaped pupils were hardly visible in the low-lighting.

"Makes no difference to me. How the hell are we going to bring her back anyway?" Her comrade, a younger man with impudent words and a limber gait was puzzled and irritated. He was a blind follower to this middle-aged archaeologist, for she was his prophet, a beacon to finding a lost deity. Ignorant as he was now, when he grew older he would become like her too. He would know the grooves of this cavern better than his children's names.

"Rowan, Holy can easily be brought back through arcane rituals. See, while she was just as human as you and I, you know the story, she was wounded by humans to the point that she achieved ascension. And for that, she died defending her father. Do you remember the girl I mentioned that lived at the military town, Amelon? Eliza. Her father, amusingly, is from Holy's world. But he is long gone from this plane. Cursed to forever wander as his soul is marked by demigods. But she has his blood. She is what we need. Eliza is the key." She stared at Rowan, awaiting his willful rebuttal to her words.

And quick he was with his detractive statement: "I get that, Miriam, but that town is gone! Wiped off the damn map because this time Eliza managed to escape! Not just her, her and that infernal A.I. is missing too. You got briefed on the report. If we had met earlier like I said-" Miriam clanged the lantern against the stones as hard as she could, cutting off Rowan's sentence.

"Hush. Worry not, that spade-eyed girl has the biggest bounty on her head in the entire country. Someone will find her for us, and bring her back."

Her grim little eyes, partially sunken into her face, squinted one more time at him, then back again at the colorful etched stones, before she turned around and wandered out from the cavern, her acolyte silently trailing behind her.
