Prologue

Duke Blackthorn growled. It was a warm day in summer but he couldn’t get himself to be in a good mood. It has been already two months after he had started searching and still, no sign of Alexander . Duke Blackthorn was seriously considering firing his men.

Alexander Draconis had been once Duke Blackthorn’s most trusted ally, until he betrayed him. Now, Blackthorn couldn’t use his most prized star gems. That fact filled Duke Blackthorn with rage. Duke Blackthorn stood up and his personal assistant opened his door for him. Duke Blackthorn was a huge man with neatly trimmed black hair and a face slightly darker than his skin, which made him look even more fierce. Duke Blackthorn strode over to his personal chambers and stepped inside, assistant waiting outside. He went over to a huge shelf full of drawers. Opening a drawer, he searched through the files. He would have to do everything himself. Soon he found the file he was searching for. It was a document about a monster hunter. Duke Blackthorn shifted through its contents, then closed the file. This man would do perfectly. “Find Seeker Stormrider and bring him to me.” He ordered his assistant. The assistant nodded quickly and rushed away.

“You want something in return for finding Alexander?” Duke Blackthorn growled. Stormrider nodded, his face staying calm even in front of the duke, who was twice as big as him. Stormrider was handsome with silver hair and piercing green eyes. He was not as tall as Blackthorn but wasn’t considered small. Duke Blackthorn looked reluctant, then just snorted and flicked his hand, summoning a box.

“You see this, Stormrider?” Duke Blackthorn slammed the fresh new gem box that he had purchased two weeks ago on the table. Seeker Stormrider glanced at the box calmly.

“Yes, Sir, I do.” Stormrider said, voice smooth. Duke Blackthorn opened the box and pulled out the new star gem. It looked like a diamond but it was a darker shade of blue and had a silver trimming around the edges. Blackthorn tapped the gem and text shimmered into existence.

“This is quite good, sir.” Blackthorn snorted.

“I need you to find me Alexander Draconis and I want it done fast, you got that? Use this to find him. If you find him, I will add another reward as well.”

 “At once, Sir.”

Stormrider stood up, bowed, and took the gem. He shoved the gem in his heart and inhaled sharply.

Two weeks later, Aetheris Stormrider was standing in the same room, glancing at Duke Blackthorn. Duke Blackthorn had been becoming more and more impatient. Now, he finally had results.

“So, you’re saying that Draconis is in Gorgon?”

“In the forest, yes. My group has spotted his cabin.”

Duke Blackthorn grinned. He was going to kill that fool.

Duke Blackthorn, with a sturdy troop of men, stomped through the forest, following Stormrider. They marched for a good twenty minutes, then Stormrider stopped.

 “He’s here."

Blackthorn pushed past him and strolled into a clearing. And there, in the middle, was the cottage. A young boy, around the age of 12, was chopping wood, oblivious of the danger behind him. Duke Blackthorn grinned, cruely, and strode over to the boy.

“Greetings, child. I have come to meet your father.” The boy jumped and swung around. Eyes wide, he stumbled back.

“W-Who are you?” the boy stammered. Duke Blackthorn looked the boy over.

“You are healthy, for sure. I could have use in you.”     Blackthorn inspected, enjoying this very much. He raised his hand and cast a spell, Minor Stun Wave.

“Feel the embrace of sleep.” Blackthorn chanted.

The boy flew back, like a ragdoll, and fell to the ground, unconscious. The duke laughed and turned and whistled. His squad started filling the clearing and surrounded the cabin. Then, Duke Blackthorn went over to the door and kicked it down. The cabin was almost completely empty. There was only a table, a few chairs, a kitchen, and two beds on the wall. One chest lay on the kitchen counter. And there he was, Alexander Draconis, staring unbelieving at Blackthorn.

“Victor, what…” Then, Alexander just sighed and slumped onto a chair.

“I should have known, living so close to your land. What did you do to my son?” Alexander stood, straight, even though he was aging. He held the strength of a Rare set. A human’s body would get stronger, faster and healthier based on the rarity. Common would give a man the vitality of the world's most strongest man, while a legendary would give a human the strength of a demi-god.

“Oh, nothing at all. But be rest assured, you will never see him again, Alex. You shouldn’t have crossed me.” Duke Blackthorn summoned a spear made of pure energy.

“Goodbye, Alexander.” He threw the spear.
