Chapter 14
Aurora POV
We’re led out of the forest and I see countless fields. Most look empty while some look like there still finishing up the harvesting. Past the fields and the farm houses is a wall and inside the wall is a town that looks large enough to put the population in the thousands. It takes about an hour of walking to make it to the town gate while they continue to talk with Annie and each other. At the gate the asshole in a tin can talks to the guard a bit and the guard runs off to who knows where. Then we continue on to some guild where I’m going to get a pass so humans don’t attack me on site and I guess the pet has to talk to some people too.
We walk past many places of interest and I make a note to come back later when it’s less crowded, like the book store, a weapons shop, and a pet store. Before I see any other places that catch my interest we’re led into a large three story building. Inside are more people with weapons some sitting at tables either waiting or talking intensely with the people at their table. Others are talking to a person behind a counter and even more are staring at papers at wall. When we walk in good portion start looking at the blood covered little girl with pity, while even more are looking at the blood covered me with suspicion. The fuck? What’s with this double standard you racist bastards.
The jackass leads us to a guy at a counter who looks shocked when he sees my pet and then as the asshole continues to talk, he starts looking at her with sympathy. That’s great and all but when are you going to get to my not get stabbed pass. I look at Annie and see her trying her hardest not to cry, and while adorable, there are more important things to be doing so I squeeze her hand. She looks at me confused so I gesture with my head for her to say something and now she looks even more confused. Sigh. Well it’s not like people pick their pets based off of how useful they are. Honestly I don’t know what I was expecting.
Luckily the woman with the stick sees Annie looking at me and interrupts the jackass to let the guy know my heroic part in this. Okay she never says heroic, but I feel it’s implied. Though to be honest I haven’t really been listening, I mean I’ve been listening for keywords but mostly I tune the humans out. They’ve just been talking and talking ever since we’ve been in the forest. How the wolves didn’t find and eat us with them making so much noise is beyond me. Then we get to this place and I thought we could finally ditch these people and we end up standing around for 10 minutes while they just keep going. Holy shit. I’m so glad I decided to not let the girl know I could talk otherwise I might have had to put her down if this is how all humans are. It's like there voices are grating on my mind, while my sanity is being slowly eroded away and according to my unique ability I probably don't have that much left.

It seems after who knows how long of the endless discusion. They decided that the guy behind the counter is going to take Annie up to see the guild master, while a girl with rabbit ears is going to take me to get registered. I really want to touch her ears. However it seems that Annie doesn’t have enough money for the registration fee. The guy says some stuff, Annie looks upset, BLAH BLAH BLAH. I’m done. I can’t take this anymore. If only I had something I could use to cut my own ears off, then I wouldn’t have to listen to this anymore. All I have though is that shiny black stone from Masters stick. Oh I wonder if that can be used for money. I take out the stone and give it to Annie who looks surprised while everyone goes from being suspicious to outright hostile.
“Where did it get that?” “Why does it have so much blood on it?” “Where did it even get that robe?” “BLAH BLAH BLAH?”
ARRRRRGGGGGGGGGGHHHHHHHHHHH
Just kill me. It’s okay. I admit my complete defeat. I won’t fight back. Just make all this annoyingness end. Annie however has other ideas since she says that the blood came from trying to help bury her parents and that I must have got the stone from one of the other bodies. So cute, the way she defends her owner like that. Everyone goes from hostile back to suspicious except for jackass who’s always wanted to kill me.
Now they start discussing how much money that they’ll buy the stone for. At this point I collapse and lie motionless on the ground in despair. I already admitted defeat is this overkill really necessary? Annie seems worried but everyone else just ignores me. I never thought I would face such high level difficulty so early in the game. Who knew that I would have to pass this unending challenge? Please just give me my pass or kill me, either way just make the talking stop before I lose it.
