Prologue - Alone

Day 1095000-ish

Three thousand years. That’s how long I’ve been trapped in this fucking rock. THREE. FUCKING. THOUSAND, At first I thought I’d hit the jackpot with this gig. Just flick the lights in the eyes of my statue on and off during a ceremony a few times, blast someone with a thunderbolt every now and then, and laugh my ass off when the humans started shaking in fear. I even got to go out every once in awhile. They’d lay their dead king, or emperor or whatever, on the altar and I’d get to possess him to play with his harem in a “last seeding” as I remember them calling it. Man some of those emperors had good tastes, especially that one with the compensation complex. Boy were the girls surprised after I altered him a “little”… Ahem, aaanyways. I was basically living the dream life, funny people to mess with, a good orgy every few decades and then poof. No more people. I guess a plague or some other empire wiped them out, don’t really know. The point is that I was alone. Like really alone. My temple didn’t even get raided once. And it was loaded! Like seriously what is wrong with these humans I thought they were all obsessed with this gold stuff, and the temple I’m in is practically made from nothing but the stuff! Getting side tracked again. So as this is diary in my mind, only ever to be "read" by me is entry number 3000 I thought I’d just recap for myself like I did at the 1000th and 2000th. Well Archion out.

Day 1342105-ish

Sound! For the first time in aeons I heard a sound! I would cry if I could. It sounded like an explosion of some kind so maybe magicians? Oh if they’re are magicians I’m saved! Every magician wants a demon, especially one as powerful as me. I don’t care  anymore wether ot not I become a familiar or just a lowly minion, I just want out of here! Oh please, please sweet Lucifer let them free me!

Day 1342105b-ish

They're getting closer. I can feel their auras now and something’s not right. According to what I’m sensing there should be just 8 down there but but from the number of foot steps there should be at least 20 more. That doesn’t make any sense though. There isn’t any way to hide your mana. It just can’t be done. Oh sure you can fool a human mage, what with humans being half blind and deaf to the world around them anyway, and if you’re really good you can fool most elves, but not a demon. We are, in essence, beings of pure mana and even humans can see other other non-etheral beings right in front of them, most of the time anyways.

So summoning magic maybe? Perhaps necromancy? Hope not. Never could stand the smell. Liches I can stand, but they’re just so dreadfully boring. They lack all sense of humor. And you can’t even bond over past “accomplishments” because they completely lack the desire and “equipment” for it. Don’t see the point in existing if all you’re going to do is study some magic.

A case of content theft: this narrative is not rightfully on Amazon; if you spot it, report the violation.

Well little else to do  but wait. They're still a few floors down and judging from the position of their auras they’ll have to choose between the catacombs and the stairs that lead up here. If I remember correctly from when I went between the temple to the palace the catacombs were sealed by iron cast double doors, big enough to allow in the two war elephants that were used to open them. So unless they happen to have one with them, or the equivalent strenth, which I know they don’t, I’ll be seeing them soon enough.

Day 1342106-ish

It seems to be as I feared. There are necromancers down there… Fuck. Necromancers are no better than liches when it comes to humor their only redeeming factor is that they’re usually such arrogant little pricks that they get amazingly annoyed at the smallest things, like having all they're undead minions dressed up in frilly dresses. Aaah, good times.  Well the good news is that the necromancers look to be the ones chasing doing the chasing, as there are five of them and they're the ones following. How is this good news? Well its good news since I can get myself on the good side of the smaller group by beating up the assh- I mean, because I can valiantly defend the weak from the assault of these necromancers... Yes it's completely because I have a strong sense of justice and loath unfairness. For not other reason what so ever. But hey it's still two pegasi with one spear, no?

The reason that I know some of those people down there are necromancer ones is because I can see it in their aura, now that they are closer. All spells leave after images of themselves on the aura of the caster, akin to how the image of a bright object might burn itself into the retina of a physical being. It just takes longer to fade. It’s also quite easy to distinguish between the kind of magic used by how the aura is shaped in the casting process.

The three other auras seem to be those of a healer, an enhancer and a mage. The smaller group seems to be having trouble with the necromancers and are only taking short breathers here and there, despite the speed advantage that they have over the undead and their masters. Some of them must be injured I guess. Now I just have to decide how to approuch this. Do I want to go with waiting until the last possible moment to offer them help, thus insuring no chance for them to try and back out, or do I go all in from the very get go and try to coax them through intimidation? Hmmm decisions, decisions. The first option might be more exciting, coming to them in their greatest hour of need. On the other hand the second might be more seccure since my prisson was built for intimidation. No reason to risk it. This might be my final chanceanything. Oh and I've decided just in time. They're coming down the hallway now. Outside world here I come!
