District seven

"Is there a chance I could get a skeleton dragon?" Alex grumbled as he puked into a plastic bag.

Milly rubbed his back, trying to improve his motion sickness. "I didn't expect you to have motion sickness," Milly commented.

"It only happens in vehicles or elevators..."

"Let's head to the lodgings first so you can rest."

"Alright," Alex nodded and lifted the giant bag without issues.

The facility the carrier landed in was practically an exact copy of the previous base. It's like they prebuilt every facility and placed them in different places.

"Are you sure we went to a different base?" Alex asked in confusion.

Milly nodded. "This is District Seven base. Our original base is in District Three."

When they arrived at the dorm area, Milly realized they had only received one key. "Oh... I'll let you rest..."

"It's fine," Alex stated. "We're not staying overnight anyways."

Milly nodded in understanding. Alex just lay in bed while Milly began looking over their schedule on the room's desk.

"The meeting will be in three hours, and then we have three more hours before the carrier returns to the District Three base."

"Is there even something we can do here?" Alex asked. "I feel like if I did something, we could get in trouble."

"That's likely, but it won't affect you much."

Alex raised an eyebrow. "What do you mean?"

"I guess you don't know about the demon hunter network."

"Is that Facebook, but for demon hunters?"

"Not exactly. It's more of a news network," Milly answered. "Every evil demon taken down is reported there. You’ve been popping up a lot recently there."

Alex rubbed his chin in thought. "What's the process for you guys?"

"Most of the time, demons that abide by the contract just live in peace with the humans," then Milly pulled out an ID. "We're also given this," Alex watched as Milly's pale skin turned darker and her tail vanished.

"Neat."

"Sir, we received a report from the meeting of the attendants."

Lucius Gray glanced up from the book he was reading to stare at the employee who entered the room. "I do not recall agreeing to a meeting."

"The directors are demanding you to participate, sir."

"They have quite the balls to demand something of me," Lucius got up from his chair. "Inform them that if I don't find the meeting worthwhile, I'll hold them accountable," Lucius stated as he walked out of his office.

The employee rushed to deliver the message.

------

"What's this meeting about?" Alex asked.

"It's for an excavation inside a high-tier demonic lair," Milly answered.

"You can do that?" Alex looked confused.

"It depends on the environment inside," Milly stated. "During the war between humans and demons. Demonic lairs served as a vital source of resources for both sides."

"Because of the demonic energy-infused resources?"

Milly nodded. "Even if humans call it Aether, both sides used a form of demonic energy."

"What do you want there anyways?"

"I need materials."

"For what?"

"A hotel..." Milly muttered.

"A hotel?" Alex repeated in confusion. "Why?"

Milly coughed. "I saw it in a show."

"... pardon?"

"In a show set in hell. The main character makes a hotel to rehabilitate the sinners and eventually help them get to heaven."

"... sounds interesting."

"I want to make a place where demons like me could live without the need to hide our appearance."

"And without the hate from the demon hunters?" Alex added.

Milly nodded. "I can't make the place using normal materials since demons are naturally powerful, so I need to make most of it out of materials already infused with demonic energy."

"Do you plan on doing a whole business proposal about it?"

"Yup. I prepared everything," Milly patted the bag Alex was carrying.

"Stop!" A man yelled as they arrived at the meeting location. "Only people with the invitation are allowed inside."

"I'll wait here then," Alex handed the bag to Milly.

"Thank you."

Milly entered the meeting room. The walls were made of glass, allowing Alex to see inside. There were already several people inside the meeting room, and Milly approached one of the people at the corner and handed a hard drive.

As Alex waited outside the meeting room, a silver-haired man arrived. He had quite an impressive build, and the guards saluted upon his arrival. The man glanced at Alex with an analytical look before approaching.

"Impressive," the man commented. "Who did you come with?"

"The..." Alex didn't know how to refer to Milly. "Her?" He tried pointing at Milly.

"The resident demon?" the man raised an eyebrow. "An interesting one," he smirked at Alex before holding something to him. "Take it."

"Thanks?" Alex accepted.

The man entered the meeting room. It seemed he was the only one left that they were waiting for since they immediately started the meeting once he took a seat. As the first began their presentation, Alex looked at what the man gave him.

He opened the box and found a white core inside with the emblem of a wolf. "The hell? Do you know anything about this?" Alex showed the guards the core.

He raised an eyebrow when the guards flinched and looked away.

"What's wrong with you guys?"

Alex didn't get the chance to ponder everything when the white core was absorbed into his body without him even touching it. His body stiffened, and he stood motionless for several minutes until he fell to his knees.

"What the fuck?" Alex panted as it felt like his whole body was burning up.

He didn't want to interrupt the meeting, so he moved away. Once he was away from sight, he tried stretching his body and felt the strain.

"I need one of those scrolls," Alex muttered.

It was an odd feeling. His body felt hot, but it differed from the burning sensation of flames. Additionally, it felt like he could feel his surroundings, and it felt strange.

"What the hell did that guy do to me?"

------

Milly stood nervously before all these powerful people. She had just finished giving her presentation, doing her best to explain how much her idea would help.

But none of them showed any interest during the presentation, and the lack of thoughts she heard was even more concerning.

Aside from the other four people who gave their presentations, five other people would need to approve her plan. However, it wasn't in the form of voting. Each of them had authority over the demonic lair and could provide support, but she needed to convince enough of them to get that support.

"I don't see a need for this," one of them spoke. "If they follow the contract, there's no need for this."

"This will cost too many resources without any return," another spoke up.

Milly's chest tightened as they discussed her proposal. It was painful to hear their comments, but at least she tried.

The man who had arrived last released a heavy sigh that caused the others to become silent. Milly recalled that the man had not spoken once during the whole meeting, even during the previous presentations. The man picked up the documents she provided before glancing at her.

"You're a devil, correct?"

"Yes, sir," Milly nodded.

"No connection to succubuses?"

"None at all, sir," Milly grew even more anxious with the man's questioning.

"Very well. The demon hunter you arrived with has been granted access to the demonic lair. You should be provided with enough materials for this. Ask him to get the materials you need."

Milly's eyes widened. "Excuse me!" Milly exclaimed as the man stood up to leave. "Are you referring to Alex?"

The man nodded. "Yes," the man said before leaving.

Milly fell to her knees in shock. She couldn't even hear the others voicing their complaints about the man who was leaving.

------

"..." Milly stared at Alex in confusion. "Why are you lying on the ground?"

"It makes me feel... less..."

Milly just looked at him in confusion.

"It's a long story," Alex stated as he got up and started to look uncomfortable as he moved around. "It feels so weird."

"What's wrong?"

"It feels like I'm holding everything around me when I'm not even touching it," Alex tried describing the sensation. "I can feel it on my whole body."

"That sounds weird."

"No shit," Alex shivered. "How did it go?"

Milly gave a big smile. "They agreed to provide support."

"Congratulations."

"But the man said you need to get the materials."

"Huh?" Alex looked at Milly in confusion.

"The man said he gave you access to the demonic lair," Milly stated, and then she grasped his hands. "Please! I need your help."

"Urg!"

"We can do some of those things you thought toward me," Milly suggested.

Alex grew even more conflicted. "I don't know how to feel about that."

"I'm a demon. We don't care about that."

"Wait... does that mean we have to stay here longer?"

Milly nodded. "The demonic lair will be available in two days, so we'll need to stay here or return in two days."

Alex was reminded of the aircraft ride here. "I think I'll stay here..."

"Well, we have a lot of free time then," Milly stated. "What do you want to do?"

"Is there anything happening around here?"

"None that I'm aware of," Milly answered. "We could go check the credit store."

"The what?"

"It's a place where you can buy stuff using the credits you get for doing missions."

"Like demonic cores?"

"They have those, but most of the stuff they sell is for entertainment. Televisions, video games, and even food," Milly explained. "Besides, you can get demonic cores and crystals for free at the supply department as long as you file a request."

Alex nodded in understanding. "Have you bought anything from there?" Alex asked as they made their way to the credit shop.

On their way, Alex shivered for a second. "Are you okay?" Milly asked in concern.

"Still getting used to the whole feeling everything around me," Alex replied.

"You'll get used to it."

"He's not here..." Lorena muttered as she looked around.

"Who are you looking for?" A man with long blonde hair approached Lorena.

"I'm looking for the new necromancer, Austin," Lorena replied.

"Does he even know about this gathering?" Austin asked.

"I invited him," Lorena stated.

"Let me guess... you sent Ms. gloomy?" Austin raised a judgemental eyebrow.

"... yes."

"Anyways... I've heard many things about him."

"He already has a high-ranking undead," Lorena mentioned.

"Honey, all of us have high-ranking undead," Austin gave her a flat look. "The real bragging rights are on the unique undead."

Austin proceeded to summon his undead. A purple magic circle appeared on the ground, and the undead emerged. It was in the form of a two-meter-tall man made entirely of muscle fibers.

"How do you like my new baby?" Austin grinned.

Lorena observed the undead. "How did you make it?"

"A flesh golem and a skeleton ogre," Austin answered proudly.

"Oh, you used an undead scroll for both of them?"

"Certainly. It was a rather expensive investment, but as you can see," the undead began flexing. "It was worth it."

"Impressive. How powerful is it?"

"It's a tier-two undead," as Austin began explaining the details about the power of his undead, Lorena saw a familiar face pass by the entrance of the banquet hall.

She rushed past Austin and exited the banquet hall. She saw the back of the person she had been expecting to attend the gathering today. Beside him was a demon wearing a suit.

"Hey!"

He turned to her. "What?"

"You're Alexander Gray, right?"

He seemed irritated. "What does everyone want from me today?"

The demon patted him on the back.
