Prologue: Masked Solace

"Fairytale Is a Lie"

May 27th 595UY, Tokyo, Japan, Mirainr

Grande Majestia Hotel

"A world fuelled with hope. That hope, is just an excuse. The excuses are lies. Those lies bent the truth. The truth, everyone is unaware of. This is the so called peace of this world- a masked solace." I thought to myself. Only the ones who have the mind can realize that but can't blame the citizen though. They've been kept away from the basics of being a human for such a long time.

I am standing in the balcony, under the open sky. My hands crossed, resting on the railing. A dark night above us glimmering with stars and artificial lights on the opposite side. Roads and buildings along with street lamps. I came here to discuss about the plan: the Choir of Mirainr with the council. After 12 years of planning, we've finally come near to execute it. Our enemy were sleeping in peace for a long time. It's time to wake them up. We have been fighting for millennia now. Both of us live by a different code; a different reason to fight this war. In the end, those so called REASONS are excuse; bond with the situation of this world; lies. No matter how much hypocrisy we show to make our men turn against the enemy. No matter how much pure our morality is, there is only one truth, lie; such a beautiful fuel to enrage hatred, trust and lust.

"High Commander Agnvik-hyeria Langley, sir." Someone called me from behind.

"Ahh, Corporal. Has the company arrived?" I asked him.

"Waiting for your arrival at the table, sir. Captain Eric Rōman is inside waiting for you."

"Well then, let's get going." I said.

I headed inside. The captain was standing at the doorway. The 2 of us started to head for the elevator.

While we were walking the captain said, "Finally we're taking some actions after almost 6 years in underground."

"We are like a virus. If we were to show ourselves to the host, we'll be caught." I said.

"Virus is a weak and notorious being, scared to show itself. We are not like that. Besides, the enemy is vulnerable at the moment and will grow more over time." He tried to oppose.

"This is why we lose. We can't make split second decisions like those humans. We can't think straight when needed. We sit in one place and can't tell what's coming at us miles away. This is the difference between us and those humans; the difference of intelligence and the reason why they are the best creation of God."

"But still-" He still protested.

"I know what you are trying to say and it's a good plan. But have you ever thought of what's to come if we do that? The world's at peace. We can't disrupt it. It'll only call in danger for us. Do you really think that making the normal citizen engage into this matter will solve our problems? The only way to ensure our victory that way is to obliterate the whole world. But that'll make us no better than our enemy. It'll also make our mission to stop at a failure. Trust me I haven't roam these lands for years just to be an old fool. Everything's coming at a full circle. We will beat them at their own game." I implied.

"But the battle 6 years ago; the plan went wrong. For that we've lost Grimmson." (Captain)

Yes. We battled the opposition 6 years ago to kill few of their front men. Not only that it failed, a human was also recruited from that incident. Though it might not sound like a big deal, it's something very important; to me at least.

"Grimmson's dead was too easy because it was all made up to execute him. The enemy military should be indebted to us for that." I told him.

"That reminds me don't you have a date tomorrow?" He asked.

"Yes, with the one who killed Grimmson." The human recruited from 6 years ago was the one to kill Grimmson.

"But if Grimmson's death was a plan made up by our men, why are you so persuasive to get revenge on his killer?" He asked.

"True our men are mostly responsible for his dead but that's a secret. We can't go on and tell everyone that we killed him. Actually, 'kill' isn't the right term here. We had just cut him off to save our own skin. Killing was the enemy's doing. Frankly speaking, I don't give a damn that he died. But that doesn't mean I wanted him to end up dead." I said.

"So you're not avenging him?" He asked.

"No. It's totally personal." I want his head on a stick. After all this time, I can't believe I'm getting a chance.

We entered the elevator, heading down.

"Attacking the enemy in the dark, it's just too much disgraceful." The captain said.

"The days of playing nice are gone. This is not about a battle with honour, not anymore. It never was. We just used it as an excuse because we were not serious about the conflict. And still to this very day that's causing us our demise. God had sent us to exterminate these evil beings. They are wrapped in lust, hungering for greed. It's our job to put them out of their misery. Make the world a better place; to start things over. We don't need those selfish sons of bitches." That's the excuse we use to keep our men running the war. We are some special descendants of God whose job is to defeat the enemy and bring God's rule back. Such a reason is only good to keep the kids on the road. In reality, I want to laugh my head off on this objective.

"They have the upper hand at everything. We have no choice but to attack from a blind spot." The captain realized.

"We are framed as terrorists and renowned as the villains so they can take the throne for themselves. But they never realized that the throne is not what we desire. A better future is what we want. Freed from the rampage of human beings, we will carry out God's will. If we were to attack them and wage a battle, no matter how it turns out there's no doubt that they'll bend the truth to their will. They'll simply put it as terrorism or lost cause. The media and internet is also their dominion. There's only 1 news company; The Daily Reconnaissance which is controlled by the government only in name. The real one to pull the strings is the military. And it's not like they are for commercial purpose. They are here just to erase the truth." I told him.

"We'll do the same like they did to take over the world, destroy them from within. Turn them against each other." The captain said.

"That's exactly what we are doing. They are corrupted from within because of our efforts. They can't tell who is friend and who is foe. Even we can't say that because the number is increasing."

Central Hospital, Tokyo, Japan, Mirainr

"How can I help you, ma'am?" The receptionist asked me.

"I would like to meet Dr. Frankefurt." I told her.

"Do you have an appointment?" She asked me.

"No bu-" I started to talk.

"Sorry, ma'am. Patients are not all-"

"It's important. If you inform him about me addressing as the second-in-command, I'm sure he'll attend to it." I said to her with a serious glare.

She looked at me for a second and two then reached for the intercom, "Wait, ma'am."

*RING*

"Hello?" The person on the opposite end answered.

"Sir, A person has come to meet you without any appointment. She's addressing herself as the second-in-command." The receptionist informed the doctor.

After a moment of silence the doctor replied, "Escort her to me."

"Yes, sir." The receptionist hanged the phone.

A nurse was standing beside the counter. The receptionist called her, "Please escort ma'am to Dr.Frankefurt's chamber."

"This way, ma'am." The nurse showed the path.

I started to follow her. We reached a room at the end of the hallway. The nurse opened the door for me. I walked into the room. The doctor was sitting on the desk with some paper in his hand. He saw me entering.

“Bring some tea for the ma’am.” The doctor ordered the nurse.

“Right away, sir.” The nurse shut the door and left.

“Take a seat.” He offered me.

I walked up to him and took a seat. I crossed my legs.

“Good to see you after so many years, dear. So, what brings you here?” He asked me.

“Well…” I started.

Back at the Hotel

We reached the ground floor and went to the restaurant. A waiter showed us the way to our table. There were total 8 of us including myself and the captain. We sat down and started to discuss our plans.

(Author note: Here '(???)' is used for any of the six characters on the table. In the future '(???)' will be also used for someone who's not important and irrelative.)

"Twelve years... how'd we get past this?" (???)

"But it didn't go as we planned; the info jacking plan, the human and Grimmson's death." (???)

"Don't have to pretend. We all know that one of us right here had set up Grimmson in the first place." I told them.

"That may be true but we can't be barking off about it and besides, he was no more useful. On top of that, he got exposed. We tried our best to protect him whilst keeping ourselves away from the matter. We were just unlucky this time." (???)

"He's dead was inevitable. After he got exposed it was a matter of time that the enemy would make their move. Regardless we gave him sanctuary in a place with mechanism of which he was unaware of but to think that he'd die this easy is just... unbelievable." (???)

"That's why I call kudos to the kid who killed him. Turning the fortress; his dominion against him, that's quite impressive for a rookie." I told them.

"If Grimmson lived, it'd be a disadvantage. Same goes for his death. We had to pick the straw that'd give us the lesser loss." (???)

"The past is in the past. We fooled ourselves by thinking they won't turn against their own blood; especially with that second-in-command. We have to think about what's to come." (???)

The narrative has been illicitly obtained; should you discover it on Amazon, report the violation.

"Yes, the ball is coming. We all know the relationship between them. They'll hardly give a damn about what's to come to their comrades. But it's still vague about what's to happen next." (???)

"I suggest we give the control of the operation to the Captain." I suggested.

Everyone agreed at once. After all, he is the only one in this room who has contact with the enemy.

"And what about you, high commander?"(???)

"He has plans tomorrow." (???)

"Age hasn't slowed you down one bit." (???)

"So where is my info regarding the target?" I asked.

"Here." (???)

He handed me an envelope.

"He is currently a student at HardStone academy. He works under the second-in-command, the one to catch Grimmson. He lives with one of his colleagues. He has some serious security on him. Don’t worry. We’re keeping tabs on him. We’ll let you know if an opportunity shows up." (???)

"What was his name again?" I asked.

"Rayemond. Rayemond lynn-Akdteruβ" (???)

"He's a human. A sheep sent to the depths of hell. It’s enraging." (???)

"It's more enraging that they allowed him to participate in this war." (???)

“He didn’t participate. He was forced. But as far as I know, he didn’t show any resistance.” (???)

"That makes me want to kill him all the more." I told them.

"But why are you so eager about it? Bloodlust is something you've never desired." (???)

I gave them a smirk, "He has the eye. The eye that has experienced near death experiences more then he took breathes in his entire life. And also, that endearing face doesn't suit someone who fights in a war."

"Well, that's a vague answer from a reasonable man like you." (???)

You all have no Idea of the truth and yet you call my reasoning vague. If only I could tell you all my reason to kill him. If only I could tell the world the truth, friends and foes included. If only they knew there's no God. We aren't against the enemy because of some pansy God's will. There's a cruel reason behind this war. I want everyone to know that. But that'll never happen. Who would give a damn about the speech of a single person who has no public influence? Who am I to tell them? The history's long forgotten that it's a fairytale now.

“And that’s my plan.” I finished saying my intention and took a sip on the cup of tea.

“Have you even heard yourself? You sound like you’re waiting for the horse to lay an egg.” The doctor commented.

“Though it may sound impossible, it isn’t. Besides, the coincidences are too much to be coincidental.” I fought back.

“As if, the odds are favourable...” He still protested.

He started again, “So, you force a human in this, and threatened to kill him if he doesn’t comply, then again, if he fails or show suspicion in any way, you’ll kill him. Don’t you think this is beyond unfair?”

“I don’t have to do anything. It’s up to the system of the universe to keep his odds even. Not mine.” I said to him.

“I see you haven’t changed in that regard. But when did you become so ambitiously optimistic?” He asked.

“I don’t see any harm in this. I have an extra hand and I would like to use it.” I gave him my reason.

“And you expect a kid to handle that.” The doctor said.

“Sure, he has a very shy and childish attitude. But his resolve and mentality is clearer than a grown man.” I said.

“If your so called theory turns out to be truth, it might set us on the edge… again.” The doctor was concerned.

He continued, “And you think Ramir and rest of Chēfarre would allow that? They’ll kill him if they found out he exists.”

“I have solution to both answers. What do you think I came here for?” I said.

“So, I am the solution?” He asked.

“No. Your son is.” I said.

“The ruler’s right hand?” (Dr. Frankefurt)

“Yes, Evans’s lap dog.” I commented.

“Huh! He is an able soldier and a patriot.” He said.

“A child who betrayed his family.” I commented again.

Before he could start, I said, “I haven’t come here to discuss that. If we want to keep Rayemond under check, your son is the key needed.”

He took a second of silence then started, “I’ll contact him about it then.”

“Sure, I’ll take my leave then.” I started to get off of my seat.

“You come here after so many years and talk about fairy tale and now leave?” He tried to stop me.

“I have a lot to do. My years of peace were over when Raye was born. The world might see a breakdown now that he exists.”

“If it turns out as you say, I would say the world is in for a bumpy ride; world war IV maybe.” He commented.

“Well then, I’ll take my leave.” I started to go to the door.

“Have a lovely night, my dear.” He bid me goodbye.

I walked out of the room and headed for the elevator

Sometime Later, back at the hotel

"So that wraps up the meeting for today. Shall we leave now?" (???)

"Yes we may." (???)

We started to head out. Everyone went their own path. While the captain decided to escort me.

The streets outside of the hotel

Grande Majestia Hotel, Tokyo, Japan, Mirainr

(Author Note: Here Italic or tilted font is used for the narration of Rayemond's perspective. In the future, it may be used when narrating a character's thoughts rather than a verbal speech.)

I’m walking on the streets along with Michelle, Alridge & Yuki. Thanks to the extra work we are so late. The surrounding is hectic. I can't stand the loud horns coming from vehicles. It's also crowdy. I want to get rid of this place as fast as I can. I looked in front of me. Alridge was walking on his own, hands behind his neck, whistling as he walks; such a free minded guy. Yuki and Michelle are gossiping about something. Their mouths barely an inch away from each other. And suddenly out of nowhere I looked on my left spontaneously, a hotel. What made me think to look at my left? It's quite big and neat. Made for the posh society I presume. Just as I locked my eyes on the hotel my chest started to tremble that It is hurting a bit. My brain is throbbing. Feet are trembling in excitement. Is this adrenaline? Is this anger? Why does it feel so exciting? I looked straight, trying to get rid of the feelings spawning inside me. Just as I looked forward, my vision started to blur. Colours began to shift. Everything felt so dramatic. I closed my eyes to escape the climax. Am I again in Oblivion? I made a sudden burst of energy and opened my eyes. Is this a dream? Why is it so dark in here? No doubt, I've lost conscious and am now in a dream or an alternate reality. I feel so different than while walking on the street because I'm a lot weak than before. Though it's me, I don't think it's my body. Yet the feelings are so real. It feels like this is real. I'm here but I can't move my body to my will. Someone or something else is commanding me. It's like I'm in a movie. It's happening for real but I have no control over it. My eyes started to move on it own, frantically. Suddenly, something started to move in front of me. My eyes didn't move anymore. I tried to make out; a body? It's coming near me. After a few moments, now I can clearly see him. Black eyes and black hair he is at least 6 feet tall and wearing a robe like apparel; blood on his clothes. He started to walk towards me with a knife, shining a grin. He seemed out of his senses, like a psycho. I guess it was his subconscious' doing. Before I could do anything he swung at me and cut open my chest. I dropped on the floor. I can feel the pain of the slice. It's Unbearable. My hand placed itself on the wound, covering up to stop the blood. My eyes looked up again. He slowly walked up to me. My right hand rose up on it's own. I noticed that my hand’s wearing different clothing. It was covered in blood.

"Raye? Rayemond? Rayemond lynn-Akdteruβ!!" Michelle called my name.

I regained my senses. The sounds of the horn started to bang again. My heart beat is elevated. My ears are pulsating. I looked in front of me. My right arm is already raised up. Not a drop of blood like before.

"What happened?" Michelle asked.

"Were you again in Oblivion?" Yuki asked.

I checked my hand, tried to move it; Flipped it. I have regained control over my body. I slowly put my hand down. What was that I just saw?

I started to talk, "I'm fi-" Before I could answer something caught my eyes. I looked at my right, a car. Someone came walking out of the gate of the hotel. After seeing the man, horror is the only response available to me. NO! It can't be, that's the guy... in my vision. Does that mean that Oblivion...

I came out of the hotel. Strange, it feels nostalgic. What's this unpleasant stench in the air? I looked around, looking for the source. Right before I could land my eyes on the left the captain called me, "Is everything alright sir?"

I stopped surveying. I replied, "Nothing's wrong."

"We should be going then." He showed me the way to the car.

I sat in the car and it took off at once.

I kept looking as the car rode off.

"Do you know that man?" Michelle asked me.

"Huh." I noticed my gang.

I shook off everything out of my head. Trying to calm myself, I started to walk. I got a few feet ahead of them. They were looking at me desperately, waiting for a response. I stopped and spun my head to the right while looking down. I answered, "No"
