Chapter 11

Snow elves have been around for about eleven thousand years. Their signature pale skin, white hair and a range of blue to gray eyes made it easy to identify them. Their element was typically the ice branch of the water element. Other elements would rarely appear among the Snow elves.

These rare mages were revered for they helped make it easier to survive in the harsh cold climates.

There were once ten known clans of Snow elves across the globe of Mou. U-na-tsi, Nchiil, Zas, Sik'az, Tú, Nuvak'china, Nuva-wungwa, Pamola, Waniyetu, and Ptan.

U-na-tsi were located in the Ametrine Range. Nchiil were located in the frozen tundra of Cladonia. Zas were located in the frozen forest of Dorset. Sik'az were located in the Tsimshian Range. Tú were located in the Pazyryk wilds. Nuvak'china were located on the Lambert Glacier.

Nuva-wungwa were located in the ice-filled Eisriesenwelt cave. Pamola were located in the Dendritic cave. Waniyetu were located in the icy desert of Nunavut. Ptan were located in the strange snowy desert of Laurenbaltica.

The Night elves were once made of five major sects and ten minor sects: Yangtze, Kashgar, Uyghur, Kazakh, Uzbek were the major sects and Harbin, Wu, Wangyu, Yīnyǐng, Yèwǎn, Guǐ, Èmó, Xīn yuè, Hēi'àn, Xianyu were the minor sects.

Each of the five major sects ruled over a number of the ten minor sects: Yangtze ruled over Harbin, Wu, and Wangyu. Kashgar ruled over Yīnyǐng and Yèwǎn. Uyghur ruled over Guǐ. Kazakh ruled over Èmó. Uzbek ruled over Xīn yuè, Hēi'àn, and Xianyu.

Yangtze and the three minor clans were located in the bamboo forest of Shunan. Kashgar and the two minor clans were located in the Kunlun Mountains. Uyghur and Guǐ were located in Star Forest. Kazakh and Èmó were located in Qinglong Woods. Uzbek and the three minor sects were located in the misty mountains of Penglai Range.

A Night elf could be easily identified by their starry appearance. Their night black skin and hair had varying colored specks that twinkled like stars. Their facial features were outlined with pale silver or gold.

The five major sects were once powerful families with major influence in the human civilization. But the hatred for the darkness element quickly saw that they were pushed to the brink of extinction. Some sects were captured and enslaved while others were either completely destroyed or forced to abandon the others and hide.

As far as anyone knows, there are only a few Night elves alive if there are any left. As for the Snow elves, no one knows what happened to them. They seemed to have simply disappeared.

Nova chuckled at Spider's response to Kail's question. "I can teach both of you to the best of my abilities."

Spider grinned. "Thank you!"

Nova nodded as Kail spoke. "You should get some rest if you're tired from your travels. We can start the lessons in a couple of days so that you may recover."

Nova smiled. "Thank you, Young Master."

As planned, two days later, the three of them were standing in the woods surrounding Kail's home. They had decided to do the lessons outside to avoid being caught by eavesdroppers.

Nova sat cross-legged on the ground. Spider and Kail copied him. They were in a small clearing. "To start off, I'll teach you how to summon a ball of energy. This will determine what form your mana takes. Spider's takes the form of a spider's web while mine takes the form of a feather."

Nova held his hands up a bit and created an open circle with them, his fingers nearly touching each other. A black feather appeared, visible in the light of the glowing orbs that Nova had shot into the air when they arrived.

"Learning the form of your mana is the first step in figuring out your abilities. Hold your hands like so and close your eyes."

Kail nodded and copied his form before closing his eyes.

"Focus on the power moving through your body and push it towards your hands," Nova continued.

Kail could feel the mana moving through his body like a warm embrace. As Nova instructed, he took control of it and pushed it to his hands. The shimmering black mana began to appear between his palms.

The mana shifted like water, moving about violently. It broke apart into strands and then joined together to form a sphere, over and over. Nova and Spider watched with surprised expressions. When the mana still refused to take a solid shape after a few moments, Nova told Kail to open his eyes.

Kail opened his eyes and looked at the violently changing mana between his hands. "Is it supposed to do that?"

Nova shook his head. "Normally it is supposed to take a solid shape and stay that way. Yours could mean you have an aptitude for different abilities. You may be able to learn my abilities and Spider's. Your mana makes me think of water and how it takes the shape of whatever holds it. It also makes me think of an explosion. Your abilities could be very strong."

Kail was happy to hear Nova's thoughts. It made him feel confident in becoming strong enough to face the Goddess of Light. He suddenly felt very tired.

Nova smiled. "The exhaustion should be hitting you now. That's the side effect of summoning your mana for the first time."

Kail shook his head, trying to stay awake. "I didn't think doing this would make me tired."

Spider laughed. "I remember being that tired when I first summoned my mana. I went straight to sleep where I was standing."

Nova chuckled. "I fell asleep while walking to my room. Let's get you back to your room, Young Master. We'll continue tomorrow night."

Kail could barely process what was being said. All he wanted to do was fall asleep but he fought against it. At least, he tried.

He woke up in bed the next morning. He sat up slowly, feeling the mana moving through his body again. This time it was a constant feeling but it wasn't unbearable. It was soothing and comforting.

Before, he would have only felt it from time to time. Nova's lesson had fully unlocked it. Kail felt excited as he thought about the future. He had the power that he needed to start working towards his goal. Now if only he could age faster!

The day went by too slowly for Kail. He was excited for his nightly lesson and his excitement showed when the three met up. Spider had been investigating the household records for any information that could help in their preparations for the fight against the Goddess of Light so he had not been by Kail's side during the day.

The trio were soon sitting in the clearing from the night before. Orbs of light lit up the clearing. The God of Death's raven was joining them tonight. The raven, newly named by Kail as Arthur, was standing between Kail and Spider.

Nova was standing. A pair of large black wings faded into view in an instant on behind him.

"Whoa!" Kail exclaimed. "That's so cool!"

Nova smiled. "My feather mana allows me to fly with wings. Let's see if you can copy it with your water-like mana."

Kail grew more excited as he got up quickly.

"Use the same method as last night," Nova told him. "Though I'm not sure how you would copy the form."

"Maybe it requires imagination," Kail said as he moved his mana to his back. He imagined having the same wings as Nova. It seemed to work as an identical pair of wings appeared on his back. Spider had to lean back to avoid being hit by them. He moved back and stood up.

The two elves were impressed. "You really can copy abilities," Nova mused. "How intriguing. This will definitely come in handy in the fight."

Spider moved in front of Kail. "Try one of mine next." Black spider webs began to appear on his skin.

Kail focused his mana to every part of his body and soon black spider webs began to appear on him as well.

"This is so cool!" Spider said with child-like enthusiasm. "You'll no doubt be the strongest Dark Mage at this rate."

"Spider is right. Your copying ability more than likely gives you an infinite number of abilities to have. With it, you'll be nearly unstoppable. I suggest you look into finding ancient abilities. Adding ancient magic to your list of abilities will be beneficial as you travel," Nova said as his wings vanished.

"Let's hope my imagination can create them correctly," Kail said as he released his own magic.

"I'm sure you'll have no problems." Nova summoned a crow made of mana. "You have the ravens of the God of Death but they won't always be able to reach you. Being able to create crows or any other type of bird will allow you to get messages out if you're ever in trouble."

Kail quickly copied his ability.

Nova nodded in approval. "The mana birds can pass through anything thanks to our darkness element. This allows them to avoid being seen. Even blending into shadows is not a problem."
