Reading the first card's description, A smile Worked its way across his face. This was actually good. Aura of ice. Passive type, common, level 1. A passive aura of ice that gives resistance to the cold and slightly improves ice type abilities
This was a good ability, remembering the cold of casting ice shard multiple times made him shiver involuntarily. And making it more powerful on top of that, "this is a good find". The only drawback was it didn't say how much it helped.
Moving onto the second card. Wall of ice. Spell type, Common, Level 1. Summon a wall of ice in front of you as protection, weak against physical force but great against fire, wind, and other non physical elements. 2 uses per day.
This was also an amazing card for a reward, it offered him protection against the elements. Right now he probably needed defense more than offense, and the resistance to cold from ice aura didn't actually do anything important, only helping with comfort, at least as far as Quill could tell. The main downside was of course it didn't seem to do well against physical force, but this could be overcome.
The third card was frost armor. summon type, common, level 1. Summon armor made of ice to cover your body and protect you. strong against elements, weak against physical force. 3 uses per day.
Quill was a bit confused on why his leather armor only had one use, and the ability to dispel it, with damage not fixing itself when resummoned. Pulling up his deck he compared the two and quickly found the difference. The card type for 'leather armor' was Equipment. While the card type for frost armor was, Summon. This alone made it appealing to him due to the fact that the damage didn't stay. But he dismissed it as a choice because he already had armor.
The fourth and final card was, Ice Spear. Summon type, Level 1. summon a spear of ice into your hand. Can use this spell three times a day.
This card also wasn't appealing for much the same reasons. A spear of ice would be cold, and probably make his hand go numb. also he already had a spear so why would he need another.
The choice came down to two cards, Aura of ice, and Wall of ice. Due to the first not giving specifics he picked the latter. "Manage deck". slotting his card made the number go up to ⅘.
"Now that you have picked your reward the next stage if the tutorial will start in 10, 9, 8" Quill felt confident now that he had 4 cards and was ready to face his next trial. Once the countdown reached zero, he found himself in the same arena as before. Once again the transition between the two places was almost instantaneous. The only difference to the arena was the blood stain was gone from the spot he killed his first goblin.
Just like before in the exact same spot another shimmer appeared in the air. The shimmer dissipated and in its place was a tall green figure with tusks coming out of its mouth. Again he recognized the figure from movies. And this time it was an orc. The creature was about 8 feet tall, heavily built, and wearing tattered cloth clothing, dirty and blood stained.
"Why the fuck does it have to be so big" Quill muttered to himself. The orc yelled at him from across the arena. "Hey ugly, you ready to die?" It had a gruff voice like someone who hasn't spoken in a few days. Its tusks also made it slur the words slightly, this had the effect of making it sound a bit less threatening.
Quill didn't bother to reply as the voice spoke again, "the battle starts in 3, 2. Quill tried to remember what traditional orc abilities usually were. He knew they had the ability to regenerate health fast but that's all he could remember. 1, Fight" the voice finished. Quill backed up to try to keep the monster at a distance while he picked it off at range. His spells made him feel invincible. It had barely been 10 minutes since he was taken to this strange world but he was coping well and not panicking too much anymore.
"Tiny human, why you not reply" the monster tried speaking to him again as it moved closer. Quill continued to ignore it and the monster seemed to give up on talking after that as it yelled, Fire Bolt. A fist sized ball of fire shot out from the orc right at Quill, but the distance was still too great, and the fireball missed flying over his head by half a foot.
Even though it missed he still flinched and stumbled back from the shock of fire flying at him. He could feel the heat of the fire as it flew past burning a few hairs on his head. He realized he had underestimated this opponent. If he got hit by that he doubted it would kill him, but nasty burns were likely, and finding out how it felt to get second or third degree burns was not on his to do lists.
"Ice shard" a shard of ice formed and shot at the ork. The monster tried moving but was too bulky to dodge. It hit the Orc directly in the leg causing it to yell in pain. "I will kill you for that" it yelled. "No you won't" Quill muttered under his breath in response. Just then the shard of ice dissolved into nothingness leaving a hole in the orks leg spurting blood like a leaky pipe.
"Fire bolt" the orc yelled this time in anger at being injured. It Limped forward to close the distance. This time he was prepared for the attack, "Wall Of Ice". Quill was worried as the ice wall sprung up between them. The wall was thin, maybe 5 by 5 feet wide and tall but only an inch thick. It was so thin he could see through it like a cloudy window.
His worry was short lived however, as the ball of fire hit his shield it burst, covering most of the wall in fire but not dealing hardly any damage to the ice. Looking up Quill was dismayed that the orc had made up half the distance between them from 80 feet now it was 40 feet away. The blood that had been squirting out of its leg also had slowed by a large margin. And to make it worse his wall of ice dispersed, just like his ice shards did after a few seconds, leaving not even water to show it had been there.
Quill realized he had to kill this monster fast before it recovered from its first injury. "Ice shard" he chanted again, another shard if ice winked into view. It shot at the orc again, hitting its side as it tried to dodge.
At this point Quill was out of space to move backwards. His back was pressed against the stone coliseum, but the orc had stumbled upon getting hit, slowing it down massively and making it cringe in pain. The orc started cursing at him and started to cast another fist sized fireball.
This time the fireball would have missed by several feet, but not wanting to risk it and on reflex from already being ready to cast, Quill cast the spell, wall of ice and once again he blocked the orcs attack. He cast an ice shard again while the orc was only 15 feet away. the ice shard hit with no problem smashing into its chest and causing it to fall down.
This wasn't enough however, the orc was healing, and The first wound to its thigh had almost completely stopped bleeding. Needing to finish this fast so he didn't lose his advantage. Quill moved forwards "Spear '' Quill spoke, calling his weapon into his hand.
Once he was within 5 feet of the orc he stabbed his spear at its head, but at the last second the ork deflected the spear with its arm. As the spear was deflected it left a deep cut in the orcs arm. Quill stabbed multiple more times, it was a slow painful death but the orc fought him the whole time. Finally getting a clean stab in the neck the orc stopped fighting. To finish the job Quill stabbed it in the chest multiple more times just to make sure it was dead.

"Fuck that thing was annoying to fight" Quill was happy even tho it took a while to kill the creature, he has survived and thats all that mattered right now. He would ponder the fact he had killed later when he wasn't in danger.
Putting a hand on the orcs body and looting it, another screen appeared. This time it had 2 cards, the first of these was Fire Bolt, Common, Level 1. Cast a small ball of fire up to 3 times a day. The second card was the true reward. The second card was Regeneration. Passive, Common, Level 1. Slowly heal all cuts and wounds
"This card is perfect but the firebolt spell is also great" this was a tough choice for quill he could only have 5 cards active and he had six in total. Deciding the leather armor was to ugly and gross he uniqueid the card replacing it with both regeneration and firebolt. This brought his card count to a total, 5/5.
"Congratulations on filling your deck and passing the second and last wave of the tutorial. For completing the tutorial you are eligible for challenging the boss of the tutorial. Defeat This boss will give you 100 SC or System Credits that can be used for upgrading your abilities and cards, also you will be given a choice between four level two cards. Do you accept this offer? If you do not you will be transported straight to your new world. To accept the challenge: go through the red door, to decline, go through the green". Two doors appeared, one at each side of the arena, and just like the voice had said one door was red while the other was green.
Thinking about what this world would be like, he decided getting a head start would be a good idea. Cards were power here and he wanted to make sure he could stay alive. The boss couldn't be that hard, it was just a tutorial after all. Deciding to risk it, Quill walked through the Red door.
Finding himself back in the same arena he just left but without the doors unnerved him. Everything was gone, a drum beat started and an old looking Orc appeared holding a staff, and at the top of the staff was a blue gem that flickered like lightning was trapped inside. Half a second after the Orc appeared two gobins appeared, one on each side of the Orc.
"Well shit, a three on one," Quill said. "The fight starts in three, two,". The Orc gave Quill an idea. It held an item before the fight even started so that means. "Spear" as he said this a spear appeared in Quills hand. Even though this event wouldn't let Quill move until the fight started, that didnt mean it wouldn't let him prepare for it.
"One" the voice finished the countdown, and right as it finished a lightning bolt shot towards him as the spellcaster cast his spell. The two goblins also summoned their weapons; the one on the left got a spear while the one on the right summoned a sword.
Quill was ready for the lightning, after seeing the staff he predicted what the orc shaman would use. He called his shield up, forming a wall of ice to block the lightning from hitting him. The lightning struck crackling around the shield then dissipated. The lightning even didn't seem to be real, rather it looked like a cheap knockoff. The lightning had moved way slower than real electricity would move. It was about as fast as the fireball the previous orc had cast, which in turn was about as fast as a baseball thrown between friends in a game of catch. It was too fast to dodge out of the way, at least at close range but it wasn't so fast that you couldn't react to it.
Regardless of his thoughts on lightning, Quill needed to get rid of this caster or at least run it out of spells. He cast ice shard at the orc trying to make it back off but the ork didn't. Instead the ice shard missed, the range between them was just simply too great for reliable accuracy. The orc seemed to notice this too and started closing the distance at a walking speed not feeling the need to hurry.
With only one wall left and the ork having most likely two lightning spells left, he needed to play this carefully. He watched as the two goblins closed in on him, they had covered the distance between them while he was distracted with the orc
As the goblins got near the one with the sword was in the lead and he stabbed at it with his spear as soon as it was within range. Managing to hit the thing wasn't hard, it didn't dodge and seemed to have very little self awareness. He stabbed his spear into its gut causing blood to spill out as he pulled his spear free.
Distracted by the first goblin the other thrust its spear at him. Noticing it at the last second he tried jumping back but the goblins spear grazed his side, pain shot into his head and he felt sick and could feel warm blood trickling down his side. Grunting from the pain and not wanting to look at where he was hit he backed up away from the goblin.
Just then he caught sight of another bolt of lightning coming at him out of the corner of his eye. The orc had managed to circle around him while he was distracted. The lightning struck him in his side causing him to yell out in pain as tears formed in his eyes. His shirt burnt away and the skin on his side blackened and charged in seemingly random patterns. The lightning also made his limbs jolt out of his control, flailing randomly causing him to trip and fall, losing hold of his spear as his fingers went numb. It felt like he had touched an electric fence but ten times worse.
Being burned badly and in massive pain, Quill forced himself to his feet just as the goblin thrust its spear at him again. This time he managed to dodge the thrust but the movement caused the burns to crack and start leaking blood bringing him more pain then he had ever felt before in his life.
As quickly as he could with the injuries he had taken he ran to where he dropped his spear and picked it up. The goblin came at him so he stabbed at the thing, he had the reach advantage due to the goblins short arms. That's when he realized his mistake, his spear only went around an inch into its leg muscle, the lightning had numbed him, it made his whole body tingle weirdly. He didn't realize it through the pain but The spell had shocked his whole body and made his muscles feel like jelly. He stumbled forwards towards the goblin he had just stabbed
As he stumbled forwards another bolt of lightning came at him. On instinct he blocked it, but barely. He needed time to breathe, the pain was bad and his eyes were blurry with tears.
He had to survive, frantically he cast ice shard at the goblin in front of him. This close to the goblin the spell had nowhere else to go and implanted firmly into the monster's throat.
"You're the last, and you already cast your three spells. You are fucked" Quill whezed to himself. He could feel his body healing slowly; it was a weirdly warm sensation. He regretted not having that ugly leather armor equipped; it would have saved him a lot of pain right now. But Regeneration was also majorly important. He could feel the cut on his side had almost completely scabbed over but his bruns didn't feel like they where healing fast, on the contrary they felt even more painful and tender.
"Fire bolt" this was the first time he had cast this spell and opposite of the ice it made the air around him heat up. The orc managed to dodge his fireball and to his dismay cast another lightning bolt at him, this was its forth lightning bolt so did it have two cards or maybe it's lightning bolt was upgraded?.
Quill also managed to dodge its spell, but the charred skin on his side cracked even more causing a fresh wave of pain to shoot across his body. The pain was excruciating but he pushed though. He had three spells left, one ice shard and two fire bolts.
Stumbling forwards he held off on casting his spells while waiting for the orc to attack first. While waiting for the orc to attack it surprised him, it rushed forwards covering the twenty or so feet in a matter of seconds it raised its staff in a two handed grip as if to swing it like a bat.
Casting ice shard for his last time and then fire bolt, he hit it in the arm and then face blinding it. Falling to the ground just before it reached him it clutched at its blackened face. Quill cast fire bolt for his last time and hitting the orc in its back he went in for the kill using his spear. It took several strikes and blood flew all over but after thirty seconds it stopped moving. Crouching over the ork and then the two goblins he looted them, doing so he collected five cards two where gray one was a copper color and one was silver.
reading the discretions helped with the pain in his body as his regeneration slowly healed him. The first card titles were. Staff of lightning, lightning bolt, sword, spear and silent cast. The spear was the same as his current spear. The sword was also the same as his spear but it was a sword.
The three interesting cards were Lightning Bolt. Spell, common, level 1. This spell lets you cast lightning bolts up to three times a day. The second to last card was copper instead of a dull gray, Staff Of Lightning. Equipment, uncommon, level 1. This staff lets you cast all level one lighting spells one extra time. It also improved damage slightly with lightning spells. The third card was a silver color, silent cast. Rare, level one. Having this card equipped allows you to cast your spells silently just by willing the spell to work. But before he could look at his cards more he heard the voice again
"Congratulations on defeating the boss of the tutorial. Please claim your reward" as he looked around. He was back in the first room in front of the table again. On the table was his reward, and reading the titles made him almost forget about his pain. summon ice golem, volley of ice, ray of frost, and frozen battleground.
