Chapter 9: Fight For You
Nate walked to the kitchen to grab a drink. He poured himself a glass of whiskey and took a couple sips. Nate walked to his window and noticed Westcut was still working with the new recruits but 8 of them were missing.
“What time is it?” asked Nate.
Nate took a few more sips then went outside. He walked up to Westcut.
“Do you think they have what it takes?” asked Nate.
“Well lord Ward, I think so but the next couple weeks will really test them.” replied Westcut.
“Very well. Can I have a talk with her?” asked Nate, pointing to the girl he saved,
“Of course lord Ward, you do not need my permission.”
Nate walked up to the girl with black hair, brown eyes, and caramel skin.
“Come with me,” said Nate.
She didn’t hesitate but just walked with Nate. They walked to the back of the house, getting away from all other people.
“What’s your name?” asked Nate.
“Autumn” said the girl.
“Autumn, do you believe in god?”
“No sir,” said Autumn.
“You don’t have to call me sir, just call me Nate.”
“Nate, why are you talking about god?”
“Because no one here knows what is really going on with the world. I do, and I was chosen by a god.”
“A god? And what is really going on?” asked Autumn.
“Why do you want to fight in my army?”
“Because I am weak. I don’t want to be the girl that was rescued by you, I want to fight with you.”
“I was weak once, but I was chosen to be what I am now, to become something different so I guess I'm giving you that opportunity too.”
“What do you want from me?” asked Autumn.
“You will serve under me and train with me. But if you take this path you will have to do things that will change you.”

“Are you sure?”
“Yes I am. I can see it in your eyes.”
“I don’t know what to say.”
“Don’t say anything. Give me results. I am going to take earth, the entire planet will be my kingdom and you and Will and more people like you guys will be my sword.”
“I will do what is necessary, my lord.”
For the first time the title of lord felt right, it felt real. Nate has changed. He is no longer just a man working for a funeral home, but the hand of death.
“Good, Autumn. I want to see you in the morning at 4:00 am. That’s when me and Will start training, then we workout, then breakfast, and after all that Will and I can take you to your first monster zone.”
“Monster zone?”
“That’s how you level up, well the most important way to level up. Will and I discovered that we can get xp through working out and fight training but it’s not very good xp.”
“I understand. Thanks Nate, thanks for taking this chance on me.”
“Go Autumn, get some rest. See you in the morning.”
Westcut was finally finished with the recruits. Nate walked up to who was left, looking at all of them. They looked dirty, beat up, and all around a mess.
“Do you all know who I am?” yelled Nate.
No one answered.
“I am Nate Ward. I am the champion of the god of death. You are going to fight for me and for the lives of the people who can’t fight. You will also be fighting in monster zones and looking for more civilians. Do you have any questions?”
“Yeah. Why should we fight for you?” asked a man who seems to be in his late twenties.
“Because I have seen what’s out there. I have killed monsters and I have killed humans who are worse than the monsters. For the last month I have done what I can, but I need help and that help will be from all of you.”
“Lord Ward, I have training set up for them. It will take about a week but by the end I will have a 5 man squad to raid a military base. I will also have 2 more squads set up to look for civilians, and most importantly possible builders to start making houses for the people here.” said Westcut.
“Good. Autumn will be in my unit. I want you to pick 3 more from this group to join me.” said Nate.
“Yes lord Ward, it will be done,” replied Westcut.
“West, get some help from your men. I have an old barn outback, get it cleaned out. They can use that as a sleeping area until we get something better for them. Oh, and please get them something to eat. They must be starving.”
“Of course sir, I will have a meal ready for them after they get the barn cleaned.”
“No, have food for them even if it’s not clean. They are not animals.”
“Yes lord, sorry.”
“Don’t be sorry, West.”
The men and women headed toward the barn. Nate walked to a shed and opened it to find sleeping bags, battery powered, lamps, and solar powered heaters. He added all of it to his inventory and dropped it all off at the barn.
“This should help for tonight. I will go out tomorrow. There’s a military supply store with cots and a few other supplies that will help. I’m sorry I’m putting all of you in a broken down barn but hey, at least the animals aren’t here so you’re not sleeping in shit.”
“Lord Ward, some of us lost family or were barely surviving before you found us so this is better than what we had. We thank you and we will make you proud,” said the same young man from before.
“What’s your name?” asked Nate.
“Andrew Thompson, sir.”
“Well Andrew, West is going to push your men, so don’t let them go down.. and if they do, don’t let them go down easy, you lead them to be stronger.”
“I will sir,” said Andrew.
