Prologue—Falling from Heaven

Prologue—Falling from Heaven

Here they were. Two strangers in Paradise, all lost in a wonderland.

The duo couldn't help but smile, showing off their perfect white teeth and further gave out a loud cheer of victory for themselves. They deserved it. They’d found Paradise, after all.

“We did it, Simara!” the guy said to the brunette lady.

“Yeah, we finally did it, Aag!” the lady, excitement in her voice, mixed with a tinge of sadness, said to Aag, the redheaded guy. Her broad smile became a normal smile, and from a normal smile to a faint one. So did Aag’s.

They did it, they had made it... but to what cost? They had journeyed through pain, moments of dilemma, consequences, heartbreaking deaths, smiles and frowns, mistakes, victories, losses, realization, sacrifices, voices and faces that they could never forget.

They could still feel the journey not far behind them. They could still feel ‘the moments’ burning like an inexhaustible fire on their faces, in their hearts, in their souls, and in their deep most memories.

They could never forget... the ‘Journey’ till here.

Aag and Simara stared at each other with a mix of emotions running down their minds. They felt exhilarated, yet miserable. They felt glorious, yet undistinguished. They felt passionate, yet placid. They felt... new... and different... Like they had just undergone metamorphosis and had become entirely new people to a whole new world waiting in front of them to be explored.

They felt profound.

They soon looked back to the setting sun, going down in the horizon, from the peak of this mountain. They deserved this sunset from this height; they deserved it all. They had done hard-work, and now they will bear its fruits. After all, we sow to reap.

“Remember that day when we had enjoyed such a beautiful sunset? That day at the beach?” Simara asked, seeming lost in another world.

“Yeah,” Aag said and smiled.

There was no need for words here. All words were now lost in the deepest of voids and chasms. The wordless feelings were enough for them to understand. They could only hold each other's hand as they looked at the sun going down, and the stars coming up. The night was only a heartbeat away. Soon will the sky be filled with infinite stars and colourful nebulae. The sky will be beautiful, soon.

Soon Simara’s head was on Aag’s shoulder. She was tired, for the journey had taken a lot from her. And so was Aag.

Within his heart, he felt a strange warmth. Not a strange warmth, I must say, for he knew what it was. It was the warmth of love. He loved Simara. Simara loved him. Their love would continue for an eternity. It was Aag’s strong belief. And it was true. They will never get separated, even if barriers were formed in between them. Aag would destroy them for Simara. Simara would destroy them for Aag. It was their unbreakable promise.

Soon came the night, as they both sat near the cliff and gazed at the beautiful night sky.

“The stars remind me something,” Simara said.

“What?” Aag asked.

“That there are more things left for us to live with and live for,” she said. “I have lost everything, and almost everybody... except you...” Her voice had a mix of sadness and happiness. Hearing it could make one realize how she was feeling. She was feeling both fortunate and unfortunate.

She sighed, before asking, “Will I ever fall in my life, will you be there to catch me? Will jump in a deep sea to save me from drowning? Will you be always there for me?”

Aag looked at Simara and Simara looked at Aag, their eyes affectionately looking at each other with a tinge of despair. Just a tinge.

Even though her words sounded melodramatic to him, Aag could also feel her honesty and affection with them and so he decided to hold her hand as he said, “I will be always there whenever you are falling, no matter where or what the weather will be, I will be right by you there, ready to catch you before you hit the ground and hurt yourself.” His hold on her hand tightened a bit. “I swear under the stars that I, Aag, will protect you for eternity from any harm!”

“Aag... Thank you... Truly... You are my everything...” Simara said... as she moved closer to Aag. Her lips getting closer to Aag’s... and soon would have been there a kiss between them... but that just when the Hell decided to break out...

The earth shook in a violent turmoil. The mountain ran riot as the earth screamed and shook and it felt like the Apocalypse had finally come.

It was an earthquake.

Earthquakes were common in the Himalayas, for the Himalayas lied between two clashing tectonic plates.

The ground they were at, the cliff, broke down, cracked down into many pieces as they fell down into a deep chasm, which was suddenly created by the strong earthquake.

Simara was falling down. Aag was falling down. Their happiness was falling down with them.

Simara was falling way faster than Aag into the chasm.

“Simara!!!” Aag screamed as he tried to increase his speed of falling to get to Simara and hold her hands.

“I will be always there whenever you are falling, no matter where or what the weather will be, I will be right by you there, ready to catch you before you hit the ground and hurt yourself.”

“Aag!!” Simara screamed as they were eaten away by the darkness in the depths of this chasm. Everything seemed momentary.

Aag couldn't catch her. He failed. He had failed Simara. He had failed his promise. He fell. He fell down into the bottomless abyss.

Two strangers seeking Paradise got all lost in a deathland...
