The last person in the group was Manager Wu Dahai.
He was the oldest and the fattest, with a middle-aged potbelly and poor physical condition.
However, Wu Dahai, whether intentionally or unintentionally, grabbed the person in front of him and pulled him back with all his strength, using the momentum to run forward.
The person he grabbed stumbled and almost fell, becoming the last person in the group.
Suddenly, a silver light flashed.
The last person, who was pulled by Wu Dahai, had his head separated from his body without even a scream.
Fang Xiu, who witnessed this, immediately stopped and patted his thighs twice before continuing to run. He was not worried about falling behind, as he was in the prime of his life with youthful strength, thanks to regular exercise.
He did not know how to quickly activate his spiritual senses, so he could only make these seemingly meaningless attempts.
The right corridor was very long, and the group ran for a full minute before reaching the end, which opened up into a spacious restaurant.
The restaurant was large and empty, with old tables and chairs and stoves and several large black pots in the corners.
Wang Ziteng was delighted and said, "There is usually an exit connecting to the outside world in the restaurant."
The group was excited at the prospect of escape and paid no attention to the environment. They scanned the room and spotted the door on the far left of the restaurant, then ran towards it.
Fang Xiu maintained his position as second to last and ran calmly, observing the environment around him.
Upon entering the door, they found themselves in a dim and cramped corridor. This corridor seemed even darker, as if the light bulbs on the ceiling could go out at any moment.
No one cared about the environment, they just wanted to escape as soon as possible.
The group quickly ran to the end of the corridor, and the leader, Wang Ziteng, looked extremely upset. "There's no way out!"
It turned out that the end of the corridor was a dead end.
This was simply unreasonable. According to Wang Ziteng's understanding, a place like a crowded restaurant would generally have emergency exits or connections to the outside world. How could it be a dead end?
Could it be that the entire hospital was completely sealed, and they did not want anyone to escape?
"Look! There's a door!" exclaimed a colleague.
At the end of the corridor on the right-hand side, there was a narrow small door, so narrow that only one person could pass through. The door was made of wood, and the paint on it had faded, with a small window made of glass.
Without thinking twice, they rushed in through the door, not caring about what was inside, but outside the door was ominous!
This book was originally published on Royal Road. Check it out there for the real experience.
Fortunately, there was nothing ominous inside the room.
It was a small room filled with brooms, mops, and old tables and chairs.
With five people squeezing into the small space, it was difficult to find a place to stand.
"Damn it! This is a storage room! There's no way out!" Wang Ziteng cursed in frustration.
The rest of them looked equally hopeless.
A dead end!
It was a dead end!
Had they made the wrong choice?
Fang Xi remained calm and thought to himself, "Next time, I should choose the left path."
He was not flustered at all, as it was just a trial and error for him.
He thought about it and decided to rewind and start again, choosing the left path.
It was too late to turn back now as two minutes had passed, and there was only one minute left before the female doctor launched her attack. If they turned back, they would be walking straight into her trap.
Although they could choose to sacrifice one person to help the others escape, Fang Xi felt that it would not be meaningful.
There were only five people left, including himself. No one knew how far they needed to run or how many lives they needed to sacrifice along the way.
Just as Fang Xi was about to leave the room to find the female doctor and rewind time, an angry voice from Wang Ziteng rang out, "It's all your fault, Fang Xi! If it weren't for you choosing the wrong path, would we be stuck here?"
"Fang Xi! If you didn't know which path to choose, couldn't you have discussed it with everyone first? Why did you have to make the decision by yourself and choose the right path?" Wu Dahai also chimed in angrily.
Although the other person besides Zhao Hao did not say anything explicitly, their eyes revealed some blameful emotions.
Fang Xiu couldn't help but curl up the corners of his mouth, something he rarely did unless faced with something extremely bizarre and exciting.
But for some reason, at this moment, facing Wang Ziteng and the others, he wanted to laugh.
Zhao Hao stood up and vehemently argued, "Fang Ge didn't force you to come, it was your own choice. You asked for directions back then, and now you blame Fang Ge for choosing the wrong path. Why didn't you choose for yourselves if you were so capable?"
"We may not be capable, but at least we won't act arbitrarily like him. We could have discussed and chosen together. We trusted him and let him make the choice, but who knew he would choose blindly! He betrayed our trust and led us to a dead end!"
Wu Dahai, as a manager, didn't disappoint. He shut down Zhao Hao's sharp tongue with a few words.
"Okay, enough arguing," Wang Ziteng bellowed, "the most important thing now is to figure out how to survive.
From my observation, the monster only attacks one person at a time, and after the attack, there is a two to three-minute period of safety. So the only way now is for us to choose one person to lure the monster away, then the rest of us can escape."
As soon as Wang Ziteng spoke, the atmosphere in the room became eerie.
Even a fool could tell that this was not luring, but going to their death, trading their own lives for the rest of the group.
Wang Ziteng took note of everyone's expressions and had already calculated the situation.
His sudden questioning of Fang Xiu earlier was just a prelude to this. When everyone blamed Fang Xiu, who else would be the one to sacrifice themselves?
Wang Ziteng knew he had to do this. In situations like this, it's best to take the initiative and people tend to follow the crowd when they're in a panic, without much thought.
If someone else had accused Wang Ziteng of being a heartless rich kid who should die first, then he might have been the one to die.
At this eerie moment, Wang Ziteng made an unexpected move. He pushed Fang Xiu fiercely and shouted, "If it weren't for Fang Xiu, we wouldn't be in this predicament. So Fang Xiu must atone for his mistakes! Quick, come and help!"
The rest of the group looked at each other, reluctant to die themselves but also unable to bring themselves to harm others for their own survival.
"Let go of Xiu Ge!" Zhao Hao roared and rushed at Wang Ziteng.
Wang Ziteng was taken aback and shouted, "Wu Dahai, come and help me!"
When seeking help from others, it's best to call out a specific person's name. Assigning responsibility to an individual is an effective way to get help unexpectedly.
Rather than asking for anyone to help, it's better to be precise and call out their name. If you don't know their name, describe their characteristics and assign a specific person to help.
These simple psychological techniques were something Wang Ziteng was quite proficient in, even though he enjoyed a life of luxury, but he had received elite education from an early age.
