His dark smirk loomed over the innocent school building, watching as the rush of students flooded out. All he saw was all the same as every day: blue balls of light floating in place where the students walked.
Soon enough, something… Peculiar peaked his interest. Instead of the drab tasteless blue blobs of everyday souls, he watched as a red diamond in the rough made its way through the sea.
His smirk widened, his pointed teeth glaring. He ran his sharpened tongue over his fangs, uncontrollably salivating. "That looks promising." He whispered with a laugh, as he clawed at the roof beneath him.
Brooke's POV:
"See ya, Brooke!"
"Bye!" I smiled back at the random voice.
"Brooke! Catch you later!"
"See ya!"
Everyday after school was really the same: everyone saying 'bye' to me with smiles. It was a nice feeling. Just knowing that people actually care enough to say 'bye' to you after the end of a long day..It was blissfully annoying in its own right.

But you couldn't be too happy when you knew you had to rush home before your parent got even more upset with you than they were before.
I started to speed my way through the sea of high schoolers, all ranging from the grades 9th to 12th. Constantly, children of each grade said 'bye' to me or attempted to stop me for a casual conversation. I knew they meant well but I had to get home.
"Hey Brooke! I-"
"Sorry I have to get home. Maybe tomorrow?" And with that, I was gone. To be honest, I never really acknowledged the people who said 'bye'. They just knew my name and what face to match it up with.
I was able to swerve my way out of the sea and onto the everyday streets of Spring Green, Wisconsin. Never heard of it? Well its real.real small that is. Just under 2,000 people live here… So that sea of kids was the entire population of children… Well, if you minus middle school and down.
A bonus from the town being so small was that everyone knew you by face. Everywhere you went someone would happily greet you and ask how your family was doing. Sure, it was bothersome, but that was life here in Spring Green.
So back to me; as the chapter title reads, I am Brooke Rivers: your typical high school senior living out her days with that occasional after school job (I don't really have one) and school sports. So far, my school was nothing short of amazing. Straight A's, Varsity volleyball player, greatly liked. It was great.
But behind all that perfume, the smell of shit remains in the air.
