Chapter 9: It’s not like that!

Lilith continued to feast on the food Alvar made, Alphine was on the ground, still in a state of shock. After a good few minutes he decided to get up due to his fear of the pink-haired child eating the entire snake by herself, he slowly jumped to his feet and shambled over to the fire before sitting down on the creaky floor. He looked behind himself to see Alvar sleeping.

The messy-haired boy turned his head to the stone slab, something that didn’t happen his past life occurred, his eyes widened, the sight reminded him of the first few months after quitting his office job.

Three small chunks for bark snake were looking up at him getting slightly soaked by the boy's tears of hunger.

He was about to unleash a wave of fury, something that he tried to avoid, however, when he looked at the child, she were sleeping. The human boy sucked his rage in and released it as a quiet sigh before extinguishing the fire and laying his head on the floor, slowly embracing unconsciousness.

The boy was woken up by the light which burst through the window like a laser - that or the groaning noises which came from outside the window, he sluggishly opened his eyes while getting up and rubbing his back, he looked around the room. Alvar and the glutton where gone. The human yawned as he scratched his head.

He looked out the window to see Alvar stabbing at the air with such great force that it caused the yellowish grass and few loose particles of dirt to move slightly, he was using what looked like a crude version of a wooden spear it was more like a stick with a sharpened end. The human boy called out from the wooden frame of the window “Oh hey, man, I see you got yourself a spear!”

The spiky-haired elf wiped the sweat from their forehead using his hand before planting the bottom of the spear into the ground causing yet again dirt to fly up slightly, he turned to face Alphine “Yeah, I asked Lilith if any weapons were laying around the ruins because I wanted to fight a tougher creature I saw walking into the forest - and more importantly, I wanted us to have more food, assuming she would know more than us about this place.”

The blueish-skinned elf scratched his head before continuing “but she said that the weapons were taken when the village was attacked, however she did have a small knife she uses to collect plants so she sharpened a stick for me.” he smiled looking at his weapon.

Due to his immense hunger caused by not eating all that much the day prior, Alphine stopped listening after he heard his friend say “more food”.

“Oh you really outdid yourself Alvar, my friend…steak, drumsticks, maybe an entire pig roast.” he thought to himself as more images of food flooded the boys head, his mouth began to drool.

The human planted both of his hands outside the window on the frames, with one leg on the bottom window frame before pulling himself up, sending the human boy flying into the air with his arms outstretched ready to wrap them around his friend to death. Needless to say, this reaction shocked the elf.

He tried to back up but still kept his arms out to catch the flying boy. However, when Alphine reached the elf, they made a pose similar to that of a couple holding hands. Lilith was coming back from the nearby forest with a basket filled with different types of herbs most of which were flowers that she’d place into the holes where the bodies would go, however, she did have some actual herbs used to make basic medicinal tea.

While stepping into the town, making her way home, she walked through the street on which the human and the elf lived, she began thinking about them “I mean it’s not that I ever needed people, I lived alone in the graveyard through most of my life...could someone want to be friends with a gravedigger?” her thoughts were interrupted by the sight before her.

Alphine turned his head to see Lilith in shock, the basket that she was holding, now on the ground. Confused, he turned back to see himself holding Alvar’s hands in a cutesy way, he jumped back with one of his hands in front of himself, his palms wide open “N-no it’s not like tha-” the boy turned his head to his friend, the elf looked at the human before looking back at the girl, he nodded “Ye-yeah I just told him abo-”

Lilith’s face took on fifty shades of red as she picked up her basket filled with herbs and stormed off into her house, breathing heavily. She swung the door open causing some birds that were on her roof to fly off into the sky, she dropped the basket on the ground before sitting down against a wall “Stupid Alphine and his stupidity, ughh.” she thought to herself.

“Now that I think about it, why would I even think about them, I don’t care what relationship they have…I’m the cold-hearted gravedigger after all.” she kept on thinking while laying on the ground bashing her hands onto the wooden floor. She turned to one side trying to go to sleep.

“Maybe that’s what friends just do.” she herself in a scenario “Hey, bro, what up? Not much how about yourself bro? A same as ever, hey bro you want to hold hands to show our bromance? Sure bro come over here.” the pink-haired girl was now looking up at the roof with her hands stretched upwards.

She kept on thinking about the scenario before dropping her hands onto her head “Aghhh it’s so confusing!” her eyes wandered over to the basket with herbs “I must look like a terrible person to them…” she thought “maybe I should give them a gift as an apology, although they probably don’t want to see me.” she kept on thinking until she got a plan.

Alphine and Alvar were laying on the floor of the ruin they stayed at, “Man I feel bad, she’s probably worrying but I mean it’s obvious it’s not like that, right?!” the elf turned to his human friend, “OF COURSE IT ISN’T LIKE THAT! Jeez I also feel bad but you thought it was obvious and I also thought the same.” the human boy screamed his face took on the tones of a tomato.

The two were thinking about ways to explain what happened, Alphine jumped up “Maybe we tell her that’s what friends do!” Alvar nodded “Yeah that makes sense! We could also say that’s how tough people greet each other!” as they kept on coming up with excuses their thoughts were interrupted by a knock on the door.

Lilith was looking at the door, behind the corner of the two’s house. She saw the human boy walk out and look down at the tray that had a jug of tea she made, as well as the two wooden cups, he picked up the tray before looking in both directions causing the girl to quickly hide. “They took it!” she said quietly to herself, smiling.

Alphine stepped back into the house wiping a tsunami’s worth of sweat off their head “All clear, it wasn’t an ambush.” he placed the tray down before continuing “I think she gave us some tea.” Alvar sat down on the ground, “Oh she probably wants to apologize for how she was acting, I feel bad for her worrying about us like this.” the elf sighed.

The human’s eyes wandered over to a small note that was laying on the tray, “A note, let’s see, I wish you good health, friends.” he flipped the note on its back to see a smiley face, below it said, “drink up!”. They both shrugged before pouring themselves a cup of tea.

It tasted pretty good, they finished the entire jug in about ten minutes. “Man, that was nice of her.” Alphine said sitting on the ground, Alvar nodded “yeah, she really didn’t have to do that.” The two sat quietly in the ruins.

*rumble*

Alphines face took on fifty shades of “I’m going to shit myself”. His face contorted as he looked back at the card. “ooh noo…” he thought to himself.

He looked to his elf friend, they nodded in unison as they ran out of the ruin with their hands covering their ass holes.
