“Like I said, inconvenient, but not horrible. If you have a healer or high regeneration, the requirement isn't too bad. Also, the description mentions a royal line, so it might give a royal quest; stranger things have happened. It should fetch a good price, and if you auction it, you'll be set.”
He had already made his decision before he got to the requirements section. Being limited to the weapons in his bracelet and having to take a fatal blow from those weapons was not something Jaeger was looking forward to. But the idea of not having to worry about his weapons breaking or being stolen was.
“I’ll keep the bracelet.”
“Good choice, I'll set you up with a healer when you're ready. Now let us move on to less stressful things, like these swords. They're linked magical swords, highly coveted by dualists. You'll also see that it requires a blood bond, which is like a soul bond, but requires a voluntary sacrifice of your own blood. Blood bonds are more of a Yi Guo thing; I wonder how that got here? It's not uncommon to see their products in Klangdor, but I would have heard of something like this.”
Sword of the Twin Soul
A famed blacksmith sought to create a set of blades for his twin nieces. When one became a scholar he had to change his plans.
Magically strengthened and permanently sharpened.
Contains a unique marital Dao that comes out when wielded together.
Has the ability to merge into one sword, combining the power of the two swords into one.
Requires blood bond.
“Sell ‘em, I don’t use swords and I don’t plan to.”
“They're sure to bring a good price. Next we have these bracelets, they each have a spell imbued in them for casting. Fireball, One Step, Entrapment, Void's Hunger, Xenia's Protection, System Translator(all), and Disintegrate. However, none of them have charges. These aren't low level spells, where did you get them?”
“These were part of the loot I got from the bandits. They just had them in a bag with all their other loot.”
“Well, you got lucky, but that explains all the tags. You should keep some of these, they're very useful. I will say that if you want to use the cursed bracelet, you can only use one other at a time, everyone is limited to one bracelet, bangle or armband per arm.”
“One per arm? What happens if I put another one on?”
“It won’t work.”
“So if I put all of these on one arm, which one would work? And for how long?”
“The first one you use will work, and I don't know how long it will work. It's just that if your plan was to stack bracelets, it will work to a certain extent, but you have to take off the last bracelet you used in order for the next one to work. So if you're using the Fireball, it will work, but if you want to do One Step, you have to take off the Fireball bracelet first. Sounds good, but it would be hard to do in combat. If you're interested, you might want to see if you can find an Arm Chain, which connects multiple bracelets, bangles, or armbands so you can have more than one active at a time. They are incredibly rare, though.”
Jaeger understood that fighting would make this difficult, he would be liable to break a bracelet. Still, this method might be good for traveling. He'd also have to keep an eye out for one of those arm chains.
“I'll take everything except System Translator(all), I don't need it.”
“Ah, the vaunted Outworlder translator. Even if you only understand the local language, you should get one so you can understand everyone.”
“My translator is set to all, thanks to circumstances I won't go into.”
Lisette seemed eager to dig into his circumstances, but she held back.
“Well, this one will sell fast. Probably to some noble, they don't want to waste time with a System Translate spell when they don't have to. Now we come to the satchel, it's a nice and simple item, a bag of holding. It's pretty much the only high magic item that's widely known by the populace. It's also the most coveted, second only to spatial rings. I can't imagine that you would sell it, but if you did, you could charge a godly fee.”
Bag of Holding
The tale has been illicitly lifted; should you spot it on Amazon, report the violation.
A satchel that has fused with a pocket of space and time to become something more. A bag of high capacity, it has few limitations.
Can hold anything as long as it will fit into the opening.
Can hold anything up to the size of a horse.
Containment of living beings not recommended.
The space within is functionally limitless, to reach the maximum would require 999,999,999,999,999,999,999 items.
Soul bond - None
Jaeger was overwhelmed as he read the card. A bag that could hold everything, the idea of not having to worry about thieves stealing his equipment or being without supplies due to carrying restrictions; thoughts raced through his head at the possibilities. The idea of thieves, however, raised a concern.
“Are there any defenses on it, and if not, can I get some? Because the idea of putting everything I own in a bag and having it stolen is not something I like to think about.”
“Yes, I remember what happened when you thought someone had stolen your bullets and powder. Bags of holding can be soul bound, that way you're the only one who can open it, and for a small fee you can get a recall patch put on it. That way, if someone steals it or you lose it, you can call it back.”
“Great, I'll take it then, and if you could help me find someone to patch it afterwards, I'd be grateful.”
“No problem, with all the money you'll get, finding someone to do it will be a breeze.”
Lisette moved the satchel over to Jaeger and then pushed out the last two items; the large piece of leather and the bracer.
“This piece of leather you gave me is called a peytral, I know it from the Royal Guard. A peytral is a breastplate designed for mounts like your horse. This one is made of some kind of magically treated leather and it binds itself to whatever mount it's used on; but that's almost standard for magical mount armor. Here the card will tell you more, I won't even mention what it's worth, I can tell what you're going to do.”
Peytral of the Sunset Rider
Chest armor made from magically treated leather. This armor is not designed for a rider, but for a mount. The Sunset Rider loved his griffin more than life itself.
Changes magically to fit any mount.
Can be summoned and unsummoned.
Armor protection covers the entire mount, with the strongest protection being the peytral itself.
Armor provides magical and physical defense.
Enchanted with the custom ability: Ride into the Sunset.
Ride into the Sunset – Allows a mount to enter the Sunset Plane at will and remain safely there. The Sunset Plane allows a mount to travel long distances in a short amount of time. Cannot bring another creature into the Sunset Plane. ‘If you want to go fast, go alone. If you want to go far, go together.’
Can be magically bonded.
Part of a set, additional abilities locked until reunited.
Something that could better protect Ventress, Jaeger agreed without a second thought.
“Ventress will love this.”
Lisette gave a small smile; she’d started to get a good read on him.
“The last piece is this bracer. You mentioned it might be shark leather, but it is actually Lusca leather and teeth. No surprise if you got it from the innkeeper. Like the belt, but unlike the dagger, it has no deeper connection to the original Lusca, the parts are from a young Lusca. Fortunately, it is not dedicated to the Old Blood Frenzy himself.”
Bracer of the Lusca
A bracer made of lusca leather with teeth of the same lusca running along it. Its abilities and allegiances change according to the wearer's choices. Will you stand with the Monstrous Overlords of the sea or with the Denizens of the Deep?
Increases physical stat block and health. Grants Water Breathing.
(Overlords of the Sea) All luscas are neutral to you. Sharks, octopuses, krakens, and undersea sentients hate you. The wearer's aura contains hints of a lusca and is more intimidating to creatures. When you side with the luscas you are FEAR.
(Denizens of the Deep) All luscas revile you. Sharks, octopuses, krakens, and undersea sentients revere you. The wearer's aura is the color of rebellion against monstrous tyrants and is more persuasive to oppressed figures and more intimidating to less powerful tyrants than a Lusca. You have stood against the luscas, FEAR is no longer a concern.
Part of pair, additional abilities locked until reunited.
“What’s with the emphasis on luscas? I knew sailors who talked about how bad sharks were and they all were in terror of ole one eye the kraken but I’m having trouble trying to figure out why luscas have this emphasis about them? I mean this bracer puts me either with or against them.”
“Firstly the bracer doesn’t put you with them, you’d be under them. Luscas do not view anything as equal to them and I mean that individually. Each lusca views itself as being superior, if their primordial didn’t rule with an iron will they’d have turned on themselves by now. That mentality is why they are feared, everything to them is meat.”
“Yeah but a lot of creatures have to view things like that.”
“Yes, but that is the key word, creatures. Luscas are sentient and have a civilization. If they didn’t disdain taking a human form all of Rangaea would be embroiled in a war against them.”
Lisette had gotten herself worked up, Jaeger felt like this was a large worldly concern. He decided to ease her worries.
“Look I’m no hero and I’ve been accused of being cold blooded but I’d never side with a creature that wants to eat me.” He paused for a moment. “I’d never side with a creature that openly wants to eat me.”
Lisette laughed, a quick burst of sound.
“That’s an interesting change you made.”
“It’s why I ask certain questions to clients hiring me now. I’ll take the bracer and I’ll tell you now I plan to side with the Denizens of the Deep.”
“And you said you weren’t a hero.”
“I’m not. I’m probably going to end up meeting the guild heads at some point and having the ‘color of rebellion’ in my ‘aura’ will be useful I bet.”
