Dead By Daylight short story
Connecting wires watching over her shoulder every other second, being careful to not mess up the generator. Two pistons start pumping, only two left. A distant crow caws and flys away causing Meg to stop her work for a moment. After seeing no sign of movement anywhere she continues to work. Only one more generator after this one and the gates will be powered. Three pistons pumping. All of a sudden she hears a loud boom coming from the other side of the field. Dwight messed up a generator. Meg keeps to her work being careful to not make any mistake knowing this could buy her just enough time to finish this generator. The fourth piston slowly begins to move. A heavy breathing coming from the corn slowly begins to get louder. Meg looks over her shoulder to see Dwight crouched down bleeding, terror fills his eyes. She knows he has a run in with IT. The generator roars to life somewhat catching Meg off guard, she had been looking at Dwight and hadn't been paying attention to the generator. She motions Dwight to follow her, to which he obediently listens. She leads him behind some rocks and partially built walls and begins to treat his wounds.
Jake, having watched Dwight mess up the generator, sits silently watching from the corn waiting for his moment to try and finish the generator that Dwight has left unattended. As he takes his time looking and watching to make sure that there's no movements of any kind before stepping out of his hiding place. He slowly begins to move towards the generator. Steadily trying not to cause any kind of disturbance to alert IT to his position. He stops momentarily as he hears a scream in the distance. Dwight had been hit. He quickly takes up working on the generator, the same one that Dwight had to leave behind to escape. Luckily for Jake he left it halfway finished. Looking around for his exit plan once the gen was done he takes note of the window that was to his left in case of a too close for comfort encounter with this thing that was chasing them. The thing that had already taken Claudette. He tried to save her, running to her while she was being carried. The last thing he saw was the black almost spider-like leg stabbing into her abdomen after she had been placed onto the hook. A gruesome death that no one deserves, and now he has a chance to help at least two others escape. Even if they would be missing one of the four they came into this trial with. As he hears the generator that Meg had been working on across the dense corn field he snaps back to just in time to catch himself from connecting the wrong wires to each other. Setting off this generator could be what stops them from escaping this nightmare. Three pistons are pumping full speed at this point with the fourth slowly starting to come to. He hears ruffling in the corn causing him to stop work entirely and look into the thick stalks. It was Dwight and Meg both looking pretty banged up and both wearing bandages. They both come over to him and with the assurance of safety they all begin working on the last generator they need. With the help of all three survivors they finish out the gen in just a few minutes.
With the final gen starting up and the buzz of the exit causing a mild alarm to show they are powered, the three begin their exit plan. Rushing to the nearest exit gate, Dwight begins to hold the lever down to slowly open the gate. Meanwhile Jake, and Meg keep watch on both the left and the right sides. And both keep watch of the middle waiting for the moment that the gate sounds open and they can finally leave this place. Then all of a sudden without either of them seeing anything coming from right behind where Dwight was standing a loud bell sounds. *clang* *clang* *clang* and to Megs horror she turns to see this massive monster of a man with glowing orange eyes, and ragged clothing appear out of thin air. Dwight stops holding the gate lever and runs hoping to lead the monster away. It does not take the bait having seen Meg hiding nearby. It begins to move her direction and after a couple of seconds she realizes it knows she's there. She runs, dashing in between rocks and walls hoping to waste enough time for someone to finish opening the gate. All her time at the track has trained her for this. She looks over her shoulder to see the creature closer than it was a moment prior. Almost as if it could move faster than her but only slightly. She takes a sharp turn around a wall and vaults through a window. It takes a swing at her and hits nothing but wood. She keeps running as she hears the exit gates sound off as she heads the way of the gate. From behind her she hears the bell again and looks back to see the monster vanish. The chase had gotten her a pretty decent distance from the gate. Knowing from her past encounter with this thing she knows it doesn't attack while it's cloaked only attacking once revealing itself, almost like it doesn't have enough power to do so while cloaked. She slows down enough to establish where she is and catch her breath.

Standing at the exit gates Dwight and Jake watch for Meg hoping she gets there before IT does. Jake notices movement near one of the trees, He moves out hoping to Meg, instead he's met with the glowing eyes of this thing slowly coming out of the cloaked state. He quickly turns back and runs, seeing Meg coming from the other direction and meeting up with Dwight near the gate. He looks back just in time to see the creature lift his blade and swing. A sharp searing pain goes through Jake's body as he hits the ground. The creature wipes his blood from his blade, and before Jake can crawl too far away picks him up, throwing him over his shoulder and makes way to the nearest hook. Meg looks at Dwight trying to decide what they can do. There's only a matter of time before the gate closes on them and their exits are met by a swift death. She begins to move towards where Jake was being carried to. Sneaking behind a wall she watches as Jake is thrown onto a standing hook. The hook is thrusted into and through his shoulder causing him to scream in pain. After only a few seconds the same spider-like creature that killed Claudette appears. It quickly lunges its sharp talon towards Jake's stomach, he catches it just in time and begins struggling to keep it from ripping into his flesh. Meanwhile the creature stands nearby watching a mixture of Jake and the area to see if his rescuers come back for him. Only problem was Meg cannot distract this killer and save Jake at the same time. She sits crouched now behind some rocks waiting for a good moment to save Jake when suddenly the killer turns and walks back towards the gate. Then she sees Dwight running the killer and taking one good swing. Dwight screams in pain as the blade tears through his lower side and part of his back. As the killer slows to wipe his blade, Meg runs out and pulls Jake off of the hook. They both begin to follow Dwight towards the gate and get there just in time to see Dwight run out and the killer be stopped by more of those same talons that Jake was fighting with. Knowing they had no time to waste they both make way straight towards the killer, Jake going left. Meg going right. Meg dashes past the slender, tall creature and makes way for the gate taking a hit as she goes by. Jake who was already in pain and bleeding had slipped past while it focused on Meg. Almost there as they ran both bleeding and in pain. Jake runs through the gate and Meg shortly behind him looks back to see to her shock the killer has already caught up with her. As she makes her final attempt to get to the gate the killer reels back ready to take a swing to put her out for good.
