“Hey Hannah, check this out,” Frank called from the computer, his voice unusually excited.
“I’m coming!” she replied, distracted. Married for over six years, Hannah and Frank were no strangers to disappointments. She was stuck in a soul-sucking 9-to-5, and Frank was still trying to break through as an engineer.
Unauthorized duplication: this tale has been taken without consent. Report sightings.
“Remember when you told me you want a vacation?” Frank asked, eyes glued to the screen.
“Yeah, why? What about it?” Hannah leaned over his shoulder as if she waiting for a kiss on the cheeks.
“This site… it’s offering $10 per person for a one-day stay. And it includes a private cabin.”
Hannah’s excitement flared. “Are you serious? That’s a steal! Wait, this isn’t some scam, is it?”
Hearing Hannah tell him that, Frank went silent for a while. Frank hesitated, biting his lip.
“Maybe… The website looks sketchy. I couldn’t find it anywhere else, and there are no reviews nor mention of it on other famous websites, I also checked the news and TV programs, and none of them dropped a single word about DawnFall.”
“Come on, sweetie. It’s just $10. Worst case, we lose one meal’s worth of money. And who knows? Maybe we get lucky.”
Frank sighed, guilt creeping into his voice.
“I feel bad. Six years together, and we’ve never been able to take a real vacation.”
“Well, maybe this is our chance. It’s time for the man of the house to take a risk!” she teased.
Frank chuckled, his fingers hovering over the mouse. But just before he clicked, his eyes caught a strange, broken word at the bottom of the page. He frowned but dismissed it, clicking ‘buy.’
“There goes our $10… It says the ticket will be delivered in—”
DING DONG
The doorbell interrupted him. Hannah shot him a surprised look. “That was fast. I’ll go check out who is it.”
As she left the room, Frank’s computer pinged. The ticket had supposedly arrived.
Moments later, Hannah reappeared, struggling under the weight of several large boxes.
“Uh, Frank. Can you help me out?”
Heavy carton boxes noise can be heard behind Frank, he looks back and sees Hannah trying to carry a big carton box and a few smaller boxes on top of the big one.
“Here, let me help you with that.”
The boxes aren’t too heavy so it isn’t a problem for the couple.
“What’s with all these boxes?”
“I don’t know, when I got to the door, the delivery guy had already driven away with his van leaving these packages.”
“Weird? Then why did you bring these packages in?”
“You say the campsite name was DawnFall right? These boxes are sent from DawnFall.”
Frank got shocked a bit and made a huff sound. He quickly returned to his computer to confirm the delivery notification earlier but to his surprise, the website was gone, his computer screen was now showing the original browser’s search bar website as though he had never searched anything. Frank tried to go into search history but didn’t find the DawnFall website as if it never existed.
“I swear to god, I received a delivery notification saying that the ticket arrived right when you went out to check the door.”
Hannah pushed the boxes far away from them in fright.
“How-, How is that possible, shouldn’t delivery take at least a few days? And we got it instantly?! How does that even make any sense.”
“Calm down sweetie, there must be an explanation.”
Frank comforted his wife and then approached the boxes lying on the floor, he began to examine the boxes. There are 2 small carton boxes and a big box which is as big as a cupboard. He began to lift the boxes, they felt as if nothing were inside.
Hesitatingly, Frank looks at his wife to make sure she’s doing fine then start to open the small boxes first.
“Thank you for buying the ticket to DawnFall. The address is-”
As Frank mumbled about something inside the small boxes, Hannah slowly crawled to Frank to see what was inside the boxes.
“What is it?”
“Two tickets, to DawnFall. A private cabin, large enough for 2 people and insurance papers.”
“Wh-, How did they know we’re going together, we bought 2 tickets separately.”
The couple went silent momentarily, looking at each other, waiting for the other one to say something.
Without waiting for much longer, Frank went to the big box and opened it. Inside is a map that leads the way to DawnFall, two raincoats, and every item needed for a perfect camping trip.
“Did we have all this, just for $20? Frank- this is scaring me.”
Looking at the map, then at the computer with only the original search bar page, Frank puts down the map and goes to Hannah.
“Look…, I know this event is so abnormal, the tickets arrived instantly, and they know we’re going together. Nothing made sense so far, as far as they provided us with every single item that was needed for camping with the price that only appeared in a dream.”
Frank snuggled Hannah and kissed her on the forehead.
“The place is only 2 hours drive from here, wouldn’t hurt a try right? We can just run away anytime if we ever feel danger. I’ll bring the guns and other self-defense stuff if you’re afraid.”
