Ch 1

*BEEP* *BEEP* *BEEP*

The incessant beeping of Matt’s alarm was non-stop and bad, as in his unconscious state he dismissed the previous one.

Looking at the time Matt felt a dread envelope him. He was late for work, again.

“Shit, shit, shit, berry is going to be up my ass if I'm late again, god forbid he give me Restroom duty, again” Matt Said as he imagined the shit covered walls.

Rushing to get ready for his third shift in two days he made his way down the steps of his old apartment building, passing his downstairs neighbor, Jake, on his way to the bus.

“Hi, Jake. By, Jake.” Matt was in such a rush that Jake couldn't even acknowledge his greeting.

No time to stop and talk, Matt increased his pace to hopefully get to the bus stop before it left…He did not get to the stop in time, instead he watched as the bus pulled out of the stop to continue on its route.

“There’s nothing to worry about. I can run to the next stop, and I won't even be late to work.” Matt thought Optimistically.

Panting heavily, Matt reaches the top of the hill and stops at the next bus stop." finally I'm here and before the bus, I'll have time to rest"

Walking the few final feet to the bus stop bench Matt begins to hear the shattering of glass and the sound of car alarms behind him, turning to see what the Commotion was, Matt sees what can only be Described as a wave of Destruction, glass Shattering one building after another, Cars are thrown and flipped, People are taken by a wave of unseen Force, thrown against buildings, And through what Windows remain.

Matt saw the destruction surge closer—windows shattering, cars flipping, people screaming. He turned and sprinted, but the force was too fast. A second later, it hit him.

Stolen from Royal Road, this story should be reported if encountered on Amazon.

Matt Heard a loud pop—Then nothing, the whole world went silent.

Lying prone on the ground, Matt slowly lifted his head, his expression dazed and shell-shocked. He tried to speak but couldn’t hear himself question what had just happened. Looking down at what had once been a bustling residential area, he saw his bus flipped over, bodies strewn out of its windows.

In a trance-like state, he staggered toward the wreckage, hoping someone had survived. Reaching the bus, he checked the first person sprawled out of the window. Dead. He was dead. So were most of the others. The only ones who had survived were the driver and a few kids, but even they weren’t unscathed. All but one had their eardrums blown out. One child, however, could still hear.

Pulling out his now cracked phone, Matt's fingers trembled as he pressed the power button over and over. Nothing. No signal, no life. His breathing quickened. 'No, no, no…' He slammed the phone against his palm. Still dead.

"why won't the damn thing turn on, I'm sure I had some power when I left my apartment"  Matt thought anxiously  "What the hell just happened!?"

Leaving the kids to the driver Matt started wandering down the street, gazing upon the damage And all he could think was  "I don't have to go to work today, do I ?” Some might consider him mean or downright heartless but Matt didn't care he hadn't got a break In weeks that all he wanted to do was go home and play some Stellaris to get back to his hive-mind Empire.

Matt stumbled, crashing against the shop’s doorway. His breath came in short gasps. The pain wasn’t normal—it wasn’t just his skin. It was deeper, crawling through his veins like liquid fire.

He held out his hands. Blisters rose along his fingers, but beneath them, something moved. His skin pulsed. Shifted. Veins stretched unnaturally, darkening under the surface.

His stomach clenched. This wasn’t right. This wasn’t how radiation worked. It wasn’t supposed to be alive.

Heading as far back as  he can, with the goal of having as many walls between him and The outside. stumbling his way towards the most metal looking door he can see. Swinging the door open and slamming it behind him.

his skin still burning and blistering he falls to the cold ground in pain, he grunts  as he hits the ground, blood coming from his pores, his nose, his ears, and eyes.

" I don't care if this won't protect me from the radiation, it's better than being outside " Matt said while coughing blood, Sprawled out on the floor, mind Fading Into unconsciousness.
