CHAPTER ZERO

THE BEGINNING

----------------------------------------

Blood in the water.

----------------------------------------

I hear shouting from my left ear, nothing from the right. "Get up, Viktor!" A clogged up, somewhat feminine voice enters an earshot from me.

I can't gauge the distance, but I do feel a slight nudge under my knees.

Blinking once, then twice, a bit of dirt enters my eyes, irritating them and causing me to blink rapidly in succession as the nudge below my knees stops and returns after a few heavy breaths I hear near me.

After clearing out my eyes, I could finally see a bit on my left eyes and realize that I was being pulled a while ago by a person. Squinting my eyes to try to find out who this person is ultimately failed as my sight still remains blurry.

Half of my body is buried a bit inside sand and dirt, and I notice a slight drizzle of rain coming from above that makes this whole situation even murkier. That explains why I could not hear anything from my right as I was being dragged with my body lopsided with the right inside all this mud and the left relatively clean.

The drizzle slowly turning to rain and some small dirt blocking my only open ear are making it quite difficult to hear anything, the person dragging me is shouting but it's barely audible. "The- Comin- Need- Fast"

With my extraordinary reasoning skills, the person's probably saying that 'They are coming, we need to go fast.'

Of course, I can't be sure about that or even some of the words used and grammar and- I digress. I like explaining things but it seems to be that there's danger to my life, our lives, I guess.

This book's true home is on another platform. Check it out there for the real experience.

First, let's assess the situation. I'm being dragged through, most probably, a beach, and by the looks of it the Oriental Beach which has a lot of these little crabs and there's definitely a lot of those here. This person, who is dragging me, is pretty strong to have dragged an 80 kilogram man through all this mud for about two hundred meters now I guess, nonetheless, this is amazing. And-

My thoughts got interrupted by the coming of a 4x4 Off-Road Truck cutting us off to our destination, which clearly is that skiff right on the beach.

"Who the fuck is cutting us off?!" I exclaim, albeit out of character.

I'm gonna kill these sons of bi- Even my thoughts are getting corrupted.

Who are these motherfuckers anyway? Two bald guys with fucking baseball bats?

"Hahaha!!" I maniacally laughed.

My friend is right with me, with him around, these guys aren't even gonna be able to lick the mud off my boots today. Hell, if they even survive today that is. "Hahahaha!!"

I keep on laughing and laughing out loud, which probably pisses the two bald guys off, or unsettle them at least, which is the objective here... Well in truth, I actually just love this shitty laugh of mine. "Wahahaha!!"

----------------------------------------

Ugh. My body feels awful. Blowing my nose, clearing out the sand and dirt inside, as well as in my ears.

"You're awake." The voice no longer feels familiar. What? Familiar? Voice?

I groan and raise my right arm, which I did not even get to feel earlier. I collapsed earlier, I can't remember anything after I tried assessing the situation. Though I'm pretty sure this is the skiff I last saw.

"Where are- Who are-" I grumble and try to force out the words, discovering that my whole mouth and throat is soar.

The voice tells me to drink and calm down. But as soon as I take my drink, my consciousness begins to slowly fade. He keeps telling me to calm down and that everything's going to be all right. He whispers almost inaudibly, "It's all my fault, I'm sorry."

Then I squint my eyes, focusing on the person rowing, but I suddenly lose my senses rapidly. Last thing I see is the person's white shirt covered with almost dry blood.
