Cycle 100, Day 1

In a wide-open field of grass sat a dazed boy.

He wasn’t quite sure what was going on nor knew where he was. Sitting up and looking around, he admired the area around him. Trees were as tall as the sky, and a dark grey shadow sat hovering above before him. He began to feel a couple of droplets of rain begin to fall and stood up.

He wore nothing, he had nothing, physically or mentally. Despite that, he began to walk. Unsure of where to go, he turned towards the small smudge of light shooting through the clouds and began walking.

Cycle 101, Day 1

He woke up again, the same field, same sky, and still no clothes. Not that he even understood any of that. He felt pain in his chest as he recalled what happened last night.

The boy walked towards the light last time but could not find anything. Eventually, without food and water, he perished. He recalled the empty sensation as he drifted off to sleep and shuddered. He did not want to experience that again.

He stood up and began walking in the opposite direction of the light this time.

Ultimately, with no food and water, one would eventually collapse. He trudged on through the mud as rain poured down on him from above. Each step, he weakened as he put more and more effort in. Unfortunately, willpower cannot defeat logic and he soon collapses on the ground. He sat below a tree as he watched the clouds above roar with anger.

*Bonk*

The boy winced in pain as he felt a small object fall on top of him. Dazed for a moment, he quickly focused his attention on the object. It was… red, different from the colors around him. Still, the object smelled nice, he craved it, he felt empty.

He slowly picked up the fruit by its hilt and he was amazed. Everything he experienced so far, has been rough and gritty but this object, it was so… smooth. A small grumble rose from his lower waist as he stared down at the object. Before he even realized it, he opened his mouth and took a bite of it. Unsure of what he had just done, he picked the object out of his mouth before the soft sweet aroma of the object hit his senses. It felt great… amazing. He scarfed the object down.

Cycle 102, Day 1

Waking up in the field once more was unpleasant. Still, he stood up immediately and headed off in the direction he went before. He had a goal now, find whatever those objects were and… eat them? He passed through the forest with greater agility as the landscape became more clear to him. Before long, he returned to the tree he was at the night before. Looking around, he recognized the sweet red objects he saw yesterday sitting at the top of the trees. He jumped up and down, before realizing that his height was too small.

He sits down and ponders. His eyes darted around before stopping in the corner of the tree. A long stick. He grabbed it and held it up towards the apples. He jumped and slashed the objects.

It was a sloppy swing, too little power, too slow.

Yet it was enough.

The apples came tumbling down as he reached up towards them. He felt happy. Stacking the apples together, he dozed off for the night.

Cycle 102, Day 2:

He woke up with a yelp, before him a giant silhouette double his size stood before him. Unlike him, it had fur and stood on 4 legs. That wasn’t the part he focused on though, it was the fact, his leg was in the creature’s mouth. He screamed with pain as the morning sun pierced through the forest.

Painful, very painful. He did not like this.

He pulled himself away from the creature as he cried out in pain. The creature took no attention to him, as he continued to eat away.

The boy didn’t know what he needed to do, all he knew was to get the monster out of here. He grabbed the first thing his hand rested on and threw it towards the creature. Unsurprisingly, the attack did not work. It was too weak, too slow, and landed nowhere near the creature. The monster dropped the leg as it turned towards his prey.

The boy watched as it spread its sharp teeth out and rushed towards him.

Cycle 103, Day 1

He screamed out in pain. He was back in the grassy field yet he felt like he was still at the tree. Pain, fear, anger, he felt them, he hated them. The boy placed his hands on his head to block out the noise ringing in his ears. It hurt. He recalled the creature, the monster, which scared him. He whimpered but he knew he couldn’t stay in the same sport. The feeling of emptiness in his lower area will return. Only by finding the red sweet objects will he cure the feeling of emptiness.

He didn’t know where he would go this time, but he knew he wasn't going to the tree. He avoided that direction as he headed towards the light shooting towards the ground. Two nights ago, he wandered around there before collapsing. This time, he was no longer ignorant. He is to find those sweet red objects, avoid those big 4 legged fur monsters and survive. He took another glance at the warm grassy field and continued his journey.

Hours later, he stumbled upon another tree. It too contained the sweet red objects he yearned for. By taking another stick and swinging it around, he got himself a small collection of him. His face turned into a grin before turning back into a face of fear. Will that creature come for him again? Maybe it was attracted to the red objects? He shivered in fear as he thought back to the night before.

Should he leave them? Should he not touch them? Would the monsters leave him alone if he doesn’t take the red apples? But if he leaves them, the feeling of emptiness will come back.

He paused for a movement to sort out his thoughts before standing up again. No, he will keep the apples and run away. Last time, it had his leg so logically if he had both his legs he might be able to get away. He grinned at his own genius as he continued on his way.

Cycle 103, Day 2

He woke up with a start. Panicked, he fumbled around the stick he picked up the night before and held it up. The forest was silent, the sun was starting to show and his sweet red fruits were still next to him. He relaxed as he stood up and began his walk for the day.

A great waterfall sat near the edge of the forest. The busses near it resulted before a boy popped out. He still wore nothing, he had not yet learned what that meant. What he did know was that this place was beautiful. He scampered around before reaching the edge of the lake. Peeking at his own reflection, he awed in fascination. The face before him was handsome, young… unfamiliar. He turned his head around as he stared at the water below him.

*Tap*

He watched as the water rippled as pulled his hands away. Cold.

The boy decided to sleep at the big rock in the middle of the lake for the night. Hopefully, the cold blue thing will scare the creatures away.

Cycle 103, Day 3

*Tap* *Tap*

The boy grumbled as he turned over and continued to sleep.

*Tap* *Tap*

He felt a weird sensation on his head and wondered what it was about.

“ianosifngpianio?”

Startled, he woke up with a start. Before him, stood… another… he wasn’t sure what he was looking at. He stared at her face before realizing she looked sort of like him. Not really actually, she had 2 hands and 2 legs, seemed to have more hair at the top but most importantly she did not have sharp teeth.

Not a creature

“Oiwahnsfcnfp;ajogpo?”

Backing away, he wasn’t sure what she was doing. He observed that she opened her mouth and sound seemed to have come out of it. He opened his and...

“#########”

Sound flowed out of his mouth, he didn’t understand it but it felt interesting. It wasn’t the same kinds of cries as the previous nights but a soft gentle voice…

“#########”

He did it again and giggled.

“#########”

He didn’t understand what this sensation was but he liked it. Eager to show his discovery with her, he looked around but could not find her.

Strange

He stretched his hands as he gave up. He didn’t know who she was but if he ever meet her again, he would thank her. Maybe give some of his sweet red objects? He turned towards his stash before quickly realizing something.

He ran out of them the night before. The boy sighed and decided what he would do today. He would get more sweet red objects. He smiled as he turned towards the forest.

Hours later, he returned. Walking out of the forest, he was greeted with a new sight. The woman was back! In fact, there was another person as well. The man did look a bit weird as his body seemed to shine but that wasn’t the point. He quickly took his sweet red objects and brought them before his guests.

He grinned as he handed each of them their own separate one. His guests, on the other hand, just stared at him. He wasn’t sure what to make of it, but he had this weird sense of discomfort. Finally, the shiny man talked to the other person and they both left. He was not sure what to make of it but it was fine. He chewed on his sweet red objects as he thought about what happened.

The boy gasped, he did not speak! He finished up his sweet red object before going to sleep. Tomorrow, he will talk to them.

Cycle 104, Day 4

The pair returned the next morning, the boy of course was overjoyed again. He bounced off his rock and attempted to communicate. It was a failure

Luckily, the pair seemed to realize it and brought out some books. The boy was fascinated, pictures of the nearby village, picture books, and lots of new information newly available to him. It was like the world suddenly became bigger. All his worries from before disappear as he began to explore this new world.

This story has been taken without authorization. Report any sightings.

Cycle 104, Day 9

The woman, whose name seemed to be Bedelia, came around every other day. The man, whose name was Edric, seemed to come every day. Wearing his same shiny armor every day, he was apparently a guard for the nearby village. After being informed by Bedelia that there was a strange boy at the nearby waterfall, he of course needed to check it out.

Unbeknownst to him, the boy who looked no older than 12 years old couldn’t even speak Aetun. He walked clumsily, ate the forest fruits, and even didn’t have anything to his name. Actually, did the boy even have a name? Naturally, Edric being the one in charge of safety decided to help the boy out.

“Name”

Edric looked up, they were doing their daily routine of learning the Aetun language.

“What is name?”

“Hmm,”, responded Erdric as he flipped through a picture book. “it is a word which is used to represent something.”

“What your name?”

“Edric, how about yours?” replied Edric softly.

“No name”

Edric stroked his beard as he watched the boy fiddle around with his new clothes.

“Would you like for me to give you one?”

“Yes!”

He thought for a moment, before reopening his mouth.

“How about Leto.”

Cycle 104, Day 20

Leto was doing his daily laundry, a skill that seemed completely useless when Bedelia taught him it when Edric arrived for the day. They begin their daily meeting of word rehearsal before reaching Leto’s favorite part of the day.

Storytime!

Edric, however, had no more stories, over the course of half of the month he had told so many stories, he might as well become a storyteller instead of a guard.

Deciding that the boy couldn’t stay here forever he decided to bring the boy down to the village. The world opened up before Leto as they headed down the hill. Fields stretching miles away, sheep being herded around, the world was a new and amazing place to him.

Eventually, they reached the village where Edric was living. He quickly brought another guard over and after chatting for a bit, he returned.

“Alright, we can go in”

They quickly entered the village.

Wooden houses, stone paths, and a small fountain in the center of the village, the village was a modest one. Nowhere near the great cities of Yanift but enough for the small population that lived here.

The two strolled around the center as Edric explained each and every question Leto had.

“What’s that?” asked Leto

“A fountain”

“How about that?”

“A blacksmith”

“Ohhh, like in story?”

“Hmm, I suppose so.”

A couple of passersby noticed the odd pair but continued on their way.

“How about that?”

Edric turned towards where Leto was pointing before turning slightly pale.

“Ah, we should probably not go there”, he replied wearily. He quickly ushered the boy around. “To answer your question, it’s a carriage.”. He frowned, he knew they were coming but they did not expect the nobles to arrive so soon. Nobles were difficult to deal with, to say the least.

“Anyways, what do you plan on doing?”

Leto scrunched up his face as he thought.

“I’m not sure”

Cycle 104, Day 50

After a month, the noble left. Edric sighed in relief as he watched the carriage slowly begin to gallop away. The past month has been frankly pretty normal. Begin near retirement age and with no family members, he had decided to adopt Leto.

Fortunately, Leto seemed fine with it.

Edric rested on the nearby bench as he watched the sunset.

Hmm, he was getting old. Perhaps he should teach Leto some skills? The boy didn’t have much of a calling so maybe training him to be a guard should give him some sort of calling. Edric leaned on the guard post as he watched the sunset.

Cycle 104, Day 105

It began to snow. Leto was outside when it began and dropped his spear as he raised his hands. The small white snowflakes fluttered down as they dissolved into his hands.

Cycle 104, Day 287

Edric has finally decided to retire.

“But master! Who’s going to be the guard then? Plus where will our income go?” whined Leto.

He received a smack on the head.

“You, you dimwit!”

“Hey, what’s your name?”

Leto looked to his side, where there sat a bubbly young girl.

“Leto”

“Alright Leto, I’ve heard you are good at fighting yah?”

Leto tilted his head in confusion.

“I suppose?”

“Then can you come with me to the nearby forest?”, the girl paused. “My mom said I can’t go unless someone strong comes with me! You’re strong so come with me!”

“Err, I’m sorry about that. Umm. I have a guard duty”

“Oh who cares, you’re like 12 years old? Let’s have fun”

“1”

“Of course, of course, that doesn’t change the fact you are pretty strong right?”

Leto recalled back a few days ago when there was a small scuffle between 2 craftsmen. Apparently, one had recently introduced eerily similar products to the other competitor for a lower price. When he tried to step in, he was thrown out of the brawl in an instance.

“No”

Cycle 104, Year 1, Day 126

“Why are we here again?”

“Oh cheer, up Leto. The world is huge and we haven’t even gotten started, don’t you see how amazing this forest is? As your senior, I want to make your life interesting! Wasting your life away as you sit at the same guard post every day. Where’s the fun in that?”

Leto walked bored as the two trudged through the forest.

“How old are you again?”

“13”

“You do have your mother’s permission to be out here right?”

“Yes, I in fact do, as we’re only going to the edge of the first for some apple picking. Do you have your mother’s permission? ” remarked Alice sarcastically.

“I don’t remember having a mother.”

Alice's smile turned into a frown in an instant. The two continued picking apples before heading back.

“You seriously don’t know? Man, that’s weird”

“I suppose it is.”

“Aww, come on. You look like a big cry baby.”, Alice smiled as she choked on her own breath.

“You know, do you know why I asked you to go on an adventure with me?”

Leto shook his head

“When you first came to the village, you looked like you found everything fascinating.”, Alice smiled as she recalled the past. “Over time, though, you seemed to have lost that spark.”

“Rekindling that fire was quite an achievement if I do say so myself. Especially for some numbskull like you”

Leto whipped a few tears away from his head.

“Promised me, you’ll keep doing what you’re doing?”

“Do you remember what you did to land you here?”
