Cyrial City. A City on a large island called Ravli Island, it shares it with three other cities, Myra, Razalo, and Hyrax. Cyrial has a lot of places on the coast, but part of the city was actually built right on and in the ocean itself. It was made of thirteen districts, although most of them aren't really all that specialized for anything despite their names, and it was something done in the original city planning. Central District has most for the administration areas, as well as Cybrex Academy, a major school that deals with cybernetworks and computers especially. Then there is Market District, which is like a massive market, but maky of the skyscrappers also happen to contain various big businesses and major brand names. Oldtown is the district that was apparently the town that was originally here, and that the city ended up getting built around. Maro Island is the District that encompasses Maro Island, a small island that essentially became part of the city. A lot of nice residences are there, including various rich estates. There is also Mountainside, which is a nice district in the mountain with a lot of housing, but also with some nice estates, apartment buildings, and so on mixed in.
The Industrial District has a lot of factories and cargo areas, and plenty of businesses. There are also a number of apartment buildings as well. North, South, and East Districts have a lot of residential, but are otherwise very mixed and diverse. Coastal is by the coast obviously, and features a wide variety of resorts, recreation, residential, business, and so on. Aqua District involves the city and the buildings built right on and into the water, the main area of it at least. Atlantis District is a district of the city that is under the ocean. There are buildings there and various passageways that let you see the underwater areas around you, which makes it a tourist hot spot. It also has a number of research labs in it. Atlantis District can be reached through access points in the Aqua District or from the mainland along the coast and districts next to the coast. And of course, the Port District, which is right next to

There are also smaller areas and singular buildings coming out or on the ocean as well above the atlantean district. Either way, this all combines to make a marvelous city. Trams and busses frequently run all over, so even if one doesn't own a car, its easy to get around, and even by bike its easy to get around as they can be brought on the tram so long as you maintain good etiquette. There is also the subway as well, although only a few are active, and a number of them are abandoned.
But of course, like any city, it has its troubles, espectially since the GWN Event, also known as the Cyberworld Event.
Even today, on the news already this morning, there was talk of a massive virus attack on systems.
"Cytel, is there any additional details on the virus attack today?"
A young boy with green hair asked that, as he walked into the kitchen.
His emerald eyes glazed over the large holoscreen in the living room, which was almost the same room as the kitchen if not for a very large doorway. The boy was currently just wearing some shorts and a shirt that looked like he slept in it.
The Data Informational Assistant, Cytel, or Cyber Intel, swiftly replied to him.
"Virus attacks have had an unusual increase as of late. NetWarriors are combatting them though, and so far a major incident has not occured. However, there are some believe there is a cause or pattern to this. Police are currently investigating, but nothing has been made public".
The boy sighed, as he figured as much. The boy, Momo Mokuba, Age thirteen. He was a student at East Cyrian Middle School, Grade 7. His house was fairly basic, with a small kitchen, and a living room with a few cushions, a short table, and such.
That said, due to his excelent grades, he was excused from quite a few classes due to having taken the midterms and final exams early, and having aced them all.
Momo made sure what appeared to be a wristwatch was on his wrist, and then pressed a button on it, before a holographic display appeared in front of him which he made use of.
"Program Complete. Clean dishes" he said with satisfaction, as he took a plate from the sink which was clean. "As expected, my new dishcleaner program worked wonders".
As he said that, he noticed the time. He would be late if he didn't pick up the pace. He quickly took out a can of ravioli, put it into a bowl, put the bowl on the plate, and then stuffed it in the microwave and ran it as he ran upstairs, quickly taking off his shirt and shorts, and getting dressed. He put on a green collared shirt, black sleeves that were seperate from the shirt and left his shoulders bare, and black pants, though he rolled up the pants legs a bit to be more comfortable for him. He also made sure to put on clean socks and underwear, and his phone of course.
He put in a few programs into the clothes, and the grabbed his bag and headed downstairs and towards the door.
"Tasks for the day, Cytel?"
"You don't have class today, but you have several deliveries to complete. The priority delivery is a tech component to Aqua District, and of course, there are still the Cyberbounties to consider".
"I swear, this thing is just a highly advanced bot, I keep forgetting that. Cytel, again, I would like to avoid violent related jobs please" Momo said with a sigh as he went down stairs and towards the entrace, putting his shoes on once he reached it.
"Understood! That said, you should run! Otherwise, you wont make the delivery on time!"
"Ah, right...wait, breakfast!" Momo realized, kicking his shoes back off and heading back inside when he heard the microwave beep. He quickly got it out, and wolfed it down quickly, a bit too quickly since he had to take some water, before finally heading out for real this time.
Once he was outside, he took out a small cube. He pressed a button, and suddenly, it opened up into a hoverboard, floating above the edge. Momo hopped on it, and immediately boosted forward, planning to make up all his wasted time.
"Seems like it is sunny today. We might get some rain soon though. Geography doesn't exactly help" Momo mentioned. The geography of the island caused the city to be in a bit of a "storm trap", which was a term coined in the mid to late twenty first century for a location whose geography made it ideal for storms to form and strike there. Thankfully, it was mostly rain, with some thunderstorms here or there. And since the city was already on the sea, and made using the latest technology, it just meant people got wet a lot.
That said, older buildings such as those in Oldtown were probably the most affected, but they have been here the longest so they adapted and are used to it as well. Though, supposedly the amount of storms and weather anomolies increased after the Cyberworld Event. No evidence yet, but people believed it had something to do with wireless electrical currents.
Either way, he adjusted his sleeve a little, and a holographic interface came out. He pressed something, and headphones appeared on his head, playing the playlist he selected. Momo was still aware of his surroundings though, as he made sure to stop at a red light and not rush head first into traffic. As he did, a truck came by him.
"Mo-chan, is that you?" a Japanese man said as he drove up next to Momo in his truck. "Not going to school today?"
"Not today, Tanzaki-san" Momo replied, smiling. "This is a day off, so I thought I would get some work done and earn some money".
The island was located in the pacific, right inbetween America and Japan. That said, it was a part of the Sovreign Nation, The Pacifico Coalition, at least in theory, although it was practically a Vassal Nation of the North American Democratic Empire to a degree. The culture had been influenced a lot by both Japan and America as a result, and most people who lived on the island spoke both English and Japanese fluently, and often mixed the two together. Typically though, it was mostly English, but with some Japanese words mixed in, and the Japanese Honorifics system was used much more then the English one. However, perhaps because originally the Japanese influence was more dominant, but many cultural aspects, especially involving schools and education, are rooted and are the same as Japanese culture.
For one thing, Soccer is called Football, and American Football is called American Football, or Chargeball recently. It had also taken some influence from other cultures, though some of that came from it being a major tourist destination. And then, it also had its own unique cultural habits and identity as well that remained, especially in Oldtown and Mountainside, but other areas as well.
"I see" Tanzaki mentioned. "Well, you shouldn't work yourself too hard. And just because you can take off doesn't always mean you should. After all, its important to spend time with children your own age, hang out and make plans and such. Well, just dont push yourself too hard. If you need money, and those useless parents of yours aren't helping, you can always ask me for help. I am sure my son would be happy to as well".
"Good to know. And thanks for the offer" Momo mentioned, as the light turned green. "Well, gotta go. Have a nice day!"
"Take care, Mo-chan!"
"Right" Momo said, as the two headed off, going in different directions. Momo was heading towards the Searabbit Delivery Office in the Market District, close to East District, and was a medium sized and well used messenger and delivery business. Momo had worked for them for a few years now. Working part time as a child was not against the law there, although it was highly restricted, limited only to a few hours a day, and only in workplaces that would not involve being in a dangerous envirornment, or large scale manual labor. In other words, jobs like clerks, delivery boys, messengers, sweepers and shelf stackers for convienence stores, gardeners, maids and butlers, and things like that. The restrictions were looser if it was a family business, although working in a factory in any capacity was forbidden, or other dangerous places like that.
Stolen from its rightful place, this narrative is not meant to be on Amazon; report any sightings.
It was actually encouraged that the children take up some work and jobs at times, to help them learn how to do work and jobs at a young age so they are better prepared and ready for it when they grow up.
Which was why Momo has been able to work at Searabbit Delivery since he was in elementary school.
"I am here" Momo said, jumping off his board and recalling it to his hand as it transformed back into a cube as he entered the office. The receptionist, Daisy Clark, looked at him with a pleasing smile. However, Momo knew her well enough to know better, and understood the pressure and irritation behind it. Although she looked twenty nine, she was actually fourty two, married, and a mother of two boys. Despite her looks, she was actually a very strict person.
"The packages are in the back. Please handle the high priority one, and do make sure it gets there on time as it is supposed to be" she said nicely and remindingly, although Momo could understand what she really meant. Definently anger that he was late, if only by a few minutes since he made up some time.
He quickly picked them all up, and put them in his messenger's bag. He was careful with each one though, as he felt the eyes of a Reaper stabbing him with glares from behind.
"Oh! Momo-chi!" another girl said as he came down, and behind her was a boy around Momo's age who looked a bit flush. "I was worried for a moment something might have happened to you! By the way, do remember you have your quarterly physical coming up".
"I will go see another doctor and have himsend you a report" Momo said, trying to escape from her. As that was going on, the blue haired boy used that chance to escape. His name was Rel Alma, and he was a co-worker and friend of Momo, but right now he was trying to escape himself while she was distracted.
This was the eccentric, overly affectionate airhead doctor they had there. Actually, the building was shared between them and her, a doctor who opened her own clinic there. She was essentially the doctor for everyone who worked there though, but she seemed to be especially close and affectionate to children. She didn't have any ulterior motives though, she was just an eccentric, affectionate airhead. Probably.
"Oi, he has work to do right now" an older man came in. Unlike Momo or Rel, who were more short and petit, he wasa larger, taller, muscular man in his late thirties or early fourties. "Momo, you should get to work".
"Ah, I will Boss! See you later!" Momo said, using this chance to escape as he looked back at her.
"You really dont have any sense of modesty or shame do you?"
"If I let that in the way, how could I be a good doctor?" she honestly replied, giving the other two people in the room a headache.
She would be so much easier to deal with, probably, if she was just a striaght up pervert.... the boss thought to himself as he heard Momo head out the door.
----------------------------------------
"Lets see...it will be faster if I use the Tram id say. Subway technically goes faster, but since its Aqua District, the Subway has to go through a station and convert to standard train tracks" Momo said to himself, checking a map as he headed towards the tram station. He used his hoverboard to boost up to the station, and as he reached the platform he jumped off and reverted it back to cube form again, putting it in his pocket as he landed on his feet.
"Nice one, Momo" a familiar voice said. Momo turned around, and his face sparked up as he saw a blonde haired boy.
"Alex! What are you doing here? I didn't think you were excused from school at all?" Momo asked.
The two thirteen year old boys approached each other, and raised their right arms, pressing their forearms against each other. Although since Momo was short for a boy, while the blonde haired boy was average height himself for a boy, Momo had to look up a little.
"Special circumstances for me. Doctor's appointment".
"Ah, I see. I thought your doctor lived in East District though?"
"Its for my annual Full Examination at the Haven's Song Research Center. This year, everyone in all the middle and elementary schools have to go there for a mandatory examination. They want to see if there are any side effects or possible alterations in our neuralchemistry from the Cyberworld Event, and the unusually high amount of cases we have had recently possibly being a cause, or an effect, or something".
Momo frowned when he heard that, and pouted. Alex Reerdon couldn't help but be a bit embarrassed for Momo as he tilted his head a bit and put his index finder on his chin and his thumb behind it, a habit he did when he was thinking about something. Momo had something of a reputation in their school, due to his cute appearance. If the two hadnt used bathhouses and hot springs together, and shared a gym class and therefore showed afterwards, Alex might have continued thinking he was a girl when they were younger.
"How annoying" Momo said, sighing.
"Not every doctor is bad, I am sure" Alex pointed out, as the tram arrived. It slid to a cool stop on the magnetic tracks, the safety devices kicking in as it docked and the doors opened. "Ah, here we go".
Momo and Alex both entered once people were finished coming off, and a few people got on behind them. A few people giggled, thinking they were on a date, which was not true. He thought about correcting them about Momo's gender, but some of them might be aware and thought they were on a date still despite that. Which probably had to do with a certain something...
"You okay Momo?" he asked, as Momo clung to his body as he held onto one of the poles that could be used to stabilize yourself and hold you up.
"Yeah...its fine..." Momo mentioned, shaking a little. "I will overcome this".
"Its completely safe you know" Alex said, as the tram started to move after all safety checks were completed by the onboard computer.
Momo had a few fears. A fear of cockroaches and any bug that was squiggly like a worm or cattapillar, and to a bit bugs in general. a general fear or distrust of doctors, a fear of falling (but not heights themselves), although the one that was affecting him right now was the fear of being sealed in a small, enclosed space. Despite those last two fears though, Momo had entered a tram, even though all trams in Cyrial City were elevated on special secure magtracks as well as a hardlink, and were small enclosed spaces as well.
Its because Momo was actively trying to overcome his fears every day, to be stronger and not let them rule him. He did have a few more, such as losing people close to him, but frankly Alex believed most humans suffered from that fear.
"R-right..." Momo said, as he tried to grab hold of the pole himself so that he could face it better. However, he suddenly had to grab hold of Alex as the tram started to shake, and it definently didn't seem natural. Various sparks seemed to fly, and various screens in the tram put up caution and warning signs, telling people to hold on and brace themselves. However, a few of those screens seemed to be buggy. "Ahhh! What is this?!"
"Momo, look at the screens" Alex told him, and so Momo looked at them, his eyes giving off a certain green glow. "How is it?"
"its bad" Momo said, focusing on the screens and forgetting his fear a bit, although he was still holding onto Alex, and now Alex onto him. "Looks like a major virus issue in the Cyberworld. They manifested I think, and are directly damaging the code itself for the tram".
As he said that, everyone else was in a bit of a panic, although some were trying to stay calm and keep the others calm. However, the situation wasn't good.
However, Alex was thankful they were in the back, in a corner area.
"Momo, behind you. An access port" he said, motioning over. "Will you be fine?"
"I dont like the way this is playing out, but at the very least..." Momo said, holding on a bit tigher as it shook again on its own. "I will feel better there then here. Keep watch, and block this area, okay?"
"I will give you cover" Alex nodded, as he touched his watch and brought up a holoscreen, running a program. In case they were not already, the cameras in the tram were completely de-activated and their memory trashed and evicerated. "Go".
Momo nodded, as he slammed his hand onto the access port. "Jack in. Power up!"
And then suddenly, Momo's body was covered in pixilated particles, before he seemed to have his body turn into them and the particles flew into the Access Port.
Suddenly, Momo found himself flying through what appeared to be a tunnel of data, lots of code and things made of code, some of which took physical appearance.
"Identity Concealment Program is online" Momo confirmed, as his body glowed green for a moment. Several rings of "Encryptions are up as well. Firewalls active".
The tunnel lasted for a few seconds before he reached the end, which deposited him in what appeared to be a virtual city made of data. The structures of the city were about the same shapes as those in Cyrial City, although some differences depending on accumulation of data and the levvel of activity on the networks. Unlike reality though, Momo didn't fear flying or falling in Cyberworld, and landed gracefully on the roof of a building.
Ahead of him, he saw the tram in the Cyberworld, or its data at least. There were several things that appeared to be purple blobs with teeth chewing on it, and they were also on the support colums that held the magrings and hardlink connection.
"I see. That is why it bugged out mid trip. It infected the tram through the connector. Alright, lets do this. Program, Seeker Blasts!"
Momo activated a program, and several sparks of light appeared around him. He then launched them at the viruses, taking them out one after another. He jumped up, his mobility and strength greatly increased in Cyberworld, and landed on the tracks themselves as a few viruses approached him. They launched a purple goo projectile, but Momo shielded against it. His screen alerted him the attack was a malware that would degrade the data and code, damaging the systems directly. However, something bothered Momo.
"The viruses can manifested in the Cyberworld or the Real World now as physical things, and that can let them bypass certain security measures and firewalls. But...the Tram systems should have some defense against this..." Momo muttered, as he stayed alert. He listened and felt the area around him.
And then, he materialized a green sword and cut through what appeared to be empty air. However, something that appeared to be a black jellyfish appeared, having been cut in two, and deconstructed from excessive data damage. Momo then used the sword to cut through a few more of the blobs.
"Sludges are normal, but a Digijelly is a bit more uncommon on its own. But one that can cloak? Never heard that before" Momo muttered, as he launched more Seeker Blasts to finish off the Sludges. However, he couldn't drop his guard, in case more Digijellys appeared. They were not common, but not rare either, and often traveled in groups. So even as Momo finished off the last of the Sludges, he could not drop his guard. Digijellys would explain the lack of defenses, since they can interface and disable things, or make them run amok. The Tram should still have defenses, but if it could hide itself, it could sneak to it and bypass those defenses as well.
Either way, Momo cleared off the viruses. He checked the surroundings, but nothing came at him.
"Alright. Access, Grant!"
Momo activated a program, and gained access to the systems. He quickly launched a repair function, but he felt like someone might be watching him suddenly as he finished. However, if they wanted to try anything, they were too late. Knowing that, Momo decided to exit, returning to where he entered while doubling the encryption programs so no one could follow or trace him, even though he had already done that when he started.
Momo then appeared behind Alex, sighing with relief. "Just a bunch of smallfry. No problem" Momo said, standing up.
"Good job, Momo. Too bad though, huh?"
"Yeah. I was hoping I wouldn't have to fight today" Momo said, not mentioning he felt someone watching him. He made sure to log the signature of the monitoring program in his logs, to be safe though. But whatever program was used didn't breach his firewalls or encryption, and his identity concealment program was up, so they would be unable to identify him anyways.
Either way, with that done, the tram finally got back on course. However, everyone suddenly became chatty again, as a video began to circulate on the screens. It showed their tram in the Cyberworld from a good distance away, as well as what appeared to be a green blur or something fighting them and restoring the train. Momo practically paled that someone was recording and released that so quickly.
However, everyone else was chatting with gossip.
"is that the legendary Emerald?"
"To think he saved us!"
"I wonder how he is able to access the net and respond to situations so quickly?"
"You think he is some sort of enhanced Diver?"
"I wonder what he or she is like...I bet they are really cool and handsome! Or beautiful!"
Momo hid that he was blushing, embarrassed by all this. Alex just tried to help and comfort his friend as best he could, although it at least kept him distracted from his fears for the moment.
----------------------------------------
"Well, did we get anything?" a large, fat man in a business suit asked the various people who were working hard on their computers.
"Our monitoring program didn't breach their firewalls, but based on the patterns we saw, we confirmed that it was the same one you asked us to investigate. The mysterious NetDiver, codename Emerald".
"I see...so we found him then?"
"It is within the realm of possibility. We only got fragmented traces for compairson, but its a 24% match so far".
"Keep up the investigations...but when he appears next time, ensure our capture team is ready to deploy and capture him before he escapes. We won't let him do as he pleases".
"Understood".
"Acknowledged".
The workers continued their hard work, as the man looked at the weird, green blur on the screen.
"You and your power will be mine, Emerald. The power to so freely enter the Cyberworld in a physical body, to use its power for your own, and to use it to manipulate the world itself".
Yes, the thing he was obsessed with was Momo's ability. After all, although it certainly was possible for children born after the Cyberworld Event to have some natural ability to enter and exit the Cyberworld, some even physically, they typically still needed a device or mechanism or something. But Momo, or rather, Emerald, could do it so freely, beyond any normal means to.
And he was greedy and wanted that power for his own use.
"Your days are numbered".
Momo had no idea the dangers and threats that were on the horizon for him. And that his peaceful(ish) life would be in peril.
