Diving into the Deep

Diving into the Deep

In the heart of Night City, a new day she brought new challenges. The sun hadn't yet risen when Rhea awoke Kai. She had a determined look and, in her hand, a case.

"We've got a job, Kai. A high-risk one," she said, her grey eyes serious.

Kai blinked the sleep from his eyes, sitting up. "What's the job?"

Rhea set the case on the table. "A high-grade neural processor implant. This isn't some casual upgrade, Kai. The client has suffered major nerve damage. Without this implant, they're facing complete paralysis."

Kai swallowed, feeling the weight of the responsibility. But there was also a flicker of excitement. His RPG system reacted to the situation, the dashboard flashing urgently. High risk meant high rewards. If successful, the experience could push his skill level further than ever before.

They reached the location, an abandoned warehouse; their client was already waiting. Kai tried not to flinch as he took in the extent of their injuries. A massive explosion had caused shrapnel to penetrate deep into their spine. Operating in these conditions was risky, but he had to take the chance.

Rhea helped him set up, her hands steady as she arranged the necessary equipment. Kai took a deep breath, looking at his RPG system. His current attributes hovered on the edge of his vision—'Body' at 2, 'Intelligence' at 3, 'Technical Ability' at 1. Not ideal, but he'd have to make do.

He focused on the 'Technical Ability' skill, a skill he had yet to have a chance to work on extensively. It related to his understanding of complex machinery, of implant installation, and troubleshooting. This operation was the perfect opportunity to improve.

Kai put on his gloves, his gaze meeting Rhea's. She nodded at him, her expression stern yet supportive. "Remember, Kai. Confidence, not haste."

As Kai made the first incision, he felt the world narrow down to this single moment, this single task. The implant was intricate, a piece of art that held a life in its grasp. A misstep could cost a life.

Hours passed in silence, the only sound being the steady beep of the monitors and the hum of machinery. Kai's focus was absolute, his hands steady as he carefully inserted the processor, connecting it to the damaged neural network. His 'Technical Ability' attribute flickered, the numbers creeping up as he gained more experience.

Eventually, it was done. Kai stepped back, exhaustion crashing over him. The client's vital signs were stable; the implant was working perfectly. He had done it. His dashboard flashed, the words 'Level Up' illuminating his vision. His 'Technical Ability' attribute had increased from 1 to 2. New skills were available for unlocking, and new perks lay waiting to be explored.

Rhea patted his shoulder, a small smile playing on her lips. "Good job, Kai."

But Kai was already scrolling through his RPG system, his eyes widening at the new skills and perks available. 'Engineering,' a skill to craft and modify cybernetics, 'Biohacking,' the ability to manipulate the bio-functions of implants for various effects; and 'Blades,' a combat skill that focused on melee weapons. The perks were just as varied, from 'Crazy Science' that enhanced the Engineering skill to 'Slow and Steady' that boosted his overall endurance.

Kai's mind raced as he thought about the possibilities and ways he could improve. This was his chance. His dive into the deep had been successful, and he was beginning to realize the potential that lay within him.

Exhausted but exhilarated, he turned to Rhea, a newfound determination in his eyes. "Let's go home, Rhea. I've got some leveling up to do."

"Diving into the Deep" had been an ordeal but was also a breakthrough. Kai had taken his first steps towards becoming the Ripper Doc he was meant to be. And with each new operation, with each level up, he would only get stronger and better.
