Climbing into the car, Ben looks around from the back, in front of him Rachel and Peter look out towards the right as a loud gunshot can be heard echoing through the area. Ben turns to look out as John grabs onto a falling Jamar.
Suddenly, Jamar falls into the car beside him as Ben looks on in shock while John returns fire up at the rooftop as he shouts. Jamar groans as John heads inside quickly shutting the door.
“Go. Go!” John says.
Rachel hits on the acceleration as she begins to speed off, the engine roars as behind them from the back several Yasuda Security Group members run out, seeing them, they run off in the distance while some try to fire at them as bullets fly around behind them.
“Fuck!” Jamar shouts as he holds onto a wound on his shoulder.
Blood is seeping out of it as a larger exit wound can be seen on the opposite end, ripped with several tendril bits, but still not larger than a golf ball.
“Shit. shit.” John says as Peter looks back.
“Fuck, they got you good.” he says.
“Shut up. John, check my bag.”
Peter turns on a radio as a police radio can be heard. It’s active and busy.
“Suspects are making a getaway.”
“Several officers down, we're going to need back up here! Heavily armed cyber psychos trying to make their escape at-.” Gunfire can be heard coming from the audio.
John quickly starts to tear open the bag as he searches around, several magazine clips, even a few grenades are inside as he finds a white box with a red cross on it, tearing it open, he passes through various objects stopping at a syringe.
“I’m gonna glue you, it’s going to hurt, okay?”
Jamar nods as John takes off the top of the syringe, injecting directly on the wound site. He pours the contents out into the entry wound as foam begins to rapidly spread. First disinfecting the wound then solidifying itself onto it.
Jamar screams out in pain as the others look over at him.
Then, Jamar loses consciousness.
“Jamar, Jamar!” John shouts as he shakes him in a panic. Thinking for a brief moment, he checks his pulse as he sighs in relief.
The radio is still hot as John looks over.
“Turn that off.”
“Shut up, I’m trying to hear if the mess you caused is going to bring more heat our way.” Peter replies quickly as he looks out around them.
“How was it?” Rachel asks.
“We got everything we came here for. Just had some uninvited guests.”
“Mmm….” She replies with a grumble.
“Sounds like we weren’t the only group to make a move tonight.” Ben says while looking at his cyberdeck almost completely absorbed in it.
“Yeah.” John says as he sighs.
“We’ve got reports of a possible break in at a Yasuda Research Facility.”
“Ignore it, it’s obviously a diversion.”
Just as the sentence is finished, two motorcycles fly by their car almost completely silent, with the appearance that mimics the appearance of a bug of some sort. Rachel and Peter look over as the passengers pull out their submachine guns.
Their eyes open wide as Rachel performs a sudden stop.
Bullets fly into the engine as Rachel uses the momentum from the suspension to take a sharp turn as she begins to drift into a corner.
From the distance, the cyclists look over as they continue along.
Rachel looks over at Peter.
“I need directions.” She says to him.
He looks at her as he looks across as he sees the cyclists still in pursuit on the opposite block.
“We can’t just head back, we’re going to have to lose them first.”
“On this thing? You can’t be serious.” John says.
“Relax, I’ve outrun cops on this thing with much bigger engines.” Peter replies.
“More of them are going to be on their way.”
The cyclists turn on the road as they make their way onto their backside. Rachel stops them through the rearview mirror as she glares at them. Taking aim, one of the gunmen tries to take out one of the wheels as the bullets trail towards it unsuccessfully. The other sprays up above missing completely.
Slamming on her breaks, Rachel tries to take one of the bikes out as they’re unsuccessful. Getting right next to them, the gunman on the back tries to reload as he looks into the windows, John shoots him down as the cyclist tries to break away and crashes.
The other cyclist keeps their distance as a helicopter can be seen in the sky. Looking over at it, the Yasuda logo can be seen on it.
“Shit, looks like they’re being serious now.” John says.
Rachel drives as fast as she can as we now are greeted to an overview of the scene as several other muscle cars are now on fast approach towards them.
The narrative has been illicitly obtained; should you discover it on Amazon, report the violation.
“There’s more of them!” Peter shouts.
Rachel thinks to herself as she reaches into her pocket and takes out a business card, on it, we see the Furukawa clan logo beside a name, Toshiro Furukawa, 37th Branch, Son of Yoshiro. She hands it to Peter who seems a little confused.
“Call him.”
“What? This guy? You can’t be serious.”
“We can’t outrun this, we’re going to need help. I’ll stall for as long as possible.” Rachel replies.
“I don’t have my phone on me.” Peter replies while holding the card.
“You can’t be serious.” John snatches the card while taking out his own phone.
Reading the card, he begins to dial in the number on his phone.
It begins to ring for a bit. Someone picks up.
“How did you get this number?” Toshiro can be heard saying.
Driving and swerving around, the muscle cars quickly pick up on them as they try to push them off the road as Rachel narrowly dodges them.
“Put him on speaker.” Rachel says.
John presses a button as Toshiro can be heard.
“Hello? I’m going to hang up if you don’t say anything.”
“Toshiro, it’s me. I didn’t want to call like this, but I’m doing a job right now and could really use some help if you can spare it.”
“How hot is it over there?” Toshiro asks.
“Hot.” Rachel replies.
It’s quiet for a bit, as Rachel focuses on making sharp turns to lose them.
Gunfire can be heard as one of the windows finally breaks as the glass from the side window next to John falls all over it.
“Fuck!” John shouts taking cover.
“Sounds interesting. Where should we meet up?”
“Across the bridge.”
“Great. We’ll be there in five, don’t die.”
“Thanks. I’ll try not to.”
The phone call ends as John is wiping off glass rocks off of himself. Another cyclist comes up to the broken window as John looks over and shoots the driver in the head. Putting the stack of magazines next to him, he seems to mentally prepare himself.
Making their approach, two muscle cars drive up on their corners.
Seeing this, Rachel continues to hit the gas as the engine roars trying to go just a bit faster. Loading a clip into the magazine of the assault rifle, John peeks out at one of the cars. He takes a shot at it as glass goes flying, then a second and a third. Each time hitting a different part of the front windshield unable to penetrate it.
He continues to tap a bit more but without making much progress, John changes target to the tires as he shoots towards them, the driver on the other side begins to move in an evasive pattern as his shots miss.
Undeterred, he tries again and again as the car opposite to them charges at them. The car shakes violently but the muscle car is unable to successfully perform a pit maneuver as Rachel continues along looking in the mirror focusing on it.
From the mirror, she sees him try again as she quickly hits the brakes.
The car rams into them but saves them in the process.
Peter looks over at John who finally lands a shot onto one of the tires of the muscle car as it suddenly swerves to the right crashing into a building.
“Took you long enough!” Peter shouts.
“Shut up!” John replies, taking another magazine out of the bag and reloading.
He turns to look over at Rachel who glances at him.
“Can you keep the car steady?” John asks.
“I’ll try!” She replies.
“Great! Make sure I don’t fall out. I’ll try to get us some distance.” John says, turning to Peter.
John breaks off the remaining shards of glass in the window as he hops out of it partially. Seeing this Peter lowers his seat as he grabs onto John’s legs. Looking out the window, John sees the various cars and bikes still on their tail. A few of them try to shoot at him as bullets fall just barely around him.
A stray bullet hits his face as he begins to bleed.
“Fuck!”
Taking aim, John stabilizes the rifle on his shoulder as he begins to shoot at them. Aiming for the muscle cars he shoots at the driver’s side as large bullet holes appear on their windshields, aiming in a straight line across obscuring their vision they continue to drive straight ahead undeterred.
Pulling out a grenade, he pops the pin, throwing it across.
Just as he does, some of the drivers open their windows and stick their heads out to see where they’re going. The cyclists immediately come to a stop as they look over in confusion.
BOOM.
A part of one of the muscle cars is severely damaged as it rams into another one. The others begin to slow down as John heads back into the car.
Rachel looks at him as he comes back through the rearview mirror.
In front of her, we can see the bridge, it’s devoid of any cars as Peter seems to look around anxiously as he turns to her. Behind them, the cyclists and muscle cars begin to catch up to them.
“Shit, what do we do?”
“Only thing we can do. Believe.” Rachel says.
Flipping a switch open, Rachel looks down at a button on it, the letters. NOS.
“Hold on!”
She pushes it as behind them, flames start to come out of the exhaust. The car suddenly accelerates as they reach the bridge, behind them the cars and bikes get further and further apart.
Making it across the bridge, the car begins to slow down.
Waiting on the other side, sitting in his sports car, Toshiro is waiting along with some others.
“Is that them?” A voice asks.
“Yeah, think so.” Toshiro looks as Rachel and the others are barely outrunning their pursuers. They begin to start their engines. Toshiro flashes his headlights as Rachel flies by.
“It’s been a while since I’ve used this stuff.” Toshiro says.
“Kinda like the old times, right?”
“Yeah.”
“Think it’s street legal?” One of them jokes.
“Let’s go.” A female voice says.
Seeing the other cars drive off the bridge in fast pursuit, they rev their engines.
Back in the getaway car, they continue as their pursuers are back on their tail. Around them it’s an odd sight, several lanes on the freeway as around it on one side are several hundred large corporate offices towering by along with almost endless spots for parking as the opposite end is in uncanny resemblance to an American suburban area.
A sign flies by that reads, Welcome to Newerk.
Taking another magazine, John plugs it into his gun.
“This isn’t working.” He says.
“Just wait.” Rachel replies.
Using the back of his seat as a resting position, he begins to take shots at the other cars through the back windshield which is already broken. The bullets stray too far as they don’t hit anything besides the ground.
In the distance behind the Yasuda group a series of sports cars can be seen coming up on them. A few of the cyclists look over at them as suddenly a large explosion rocks the area causing them to fall off their bikes. A few other cars lose their control as they drive off onto the shoulder. Realizing something is off, the other drivers begin to pull off.
A phone call comes through on the other end.
John picks it up as he puts it on speakerphone.
“Well, that deals with that. I hope whatever it is you’re doing this helps settle it.” Toshiro says.
“Thanks, I’ll pay you back later.”
“Don’t worry, just a favor from one rider to another.”
The phone call ends as they continue to drive along alone on the freeway.
“Let’s find somewhere to stop.” John says.
John checks on Jamar then turns to look at Ben who hasn’t said a word in a while. He’s almost entirely engulfed in his cyberdeck as he finally notices John looking at him.
“You’re not going to believe what we just stole.” Ben says.
“I don’t want to know.”
“Trust me, you’re gonna want to see this.”
