The Forsaken Shrine

The Forsaken Shrine

Chapter 6 - The Forsaken Shrine

Akari tightened her grip on the Forsaken Blade, its cold surface pressing into her palm. Her breath was still uneven, her heart pounding from the encounter with the masked cultivators.

She had escaped. Barely.

But she knew they wouldn’t stop hunting her.

The wind carried the scent of damp earth and something older—the stench of decay. The shrine loomed before her, its stone pillars cracked and covered in creeping vines. Faint symbols glowed along its surface, flickering like dying embers.

The system mentioned this place.

> Quest Update: The Path of Cultivation

Objective: Find a Cultivation Manual.

Hint: The Forsaken Shrine holds remnants of an ancient path. Seek knowledge, but beware the price.

The story has been taken without consent; if you see it on Amazon, report the incident.

Akari swallowed hard.

There was always a price.

Her wolves flanked her, their crimson eyes alert. They were still wounded from the fight, but they moved with quiet precision, sniffing the air for threats.

Good. At least I’m not alone.

She stepped forward, the stone beneath her feet groaning in protest. The shrine’s entrance was open—too open. Like it was inviting her inside.

I don’t like this.

But hesitation wouldn’t get her anywhere.

Taking a deep breath, she crossed the threshold.

Inside the Shrine

The air inside was heavy. Almost suffocating. Dust swirled in the dim light, disturbed by her presence. Strange markings lined the walls—ancient writing she didn’t recognize, etched deep into the stone.

A pedestal stood at the center of the room. On it, resting in eerie silence, was an old scroll.

Akari’s pulse quickened.

That had to be it.

She approached cautiously, every instinct screaming at her to be careful.

But just as her fingers brushed the scroll—

The walls trembled.

A deep, resonating hum filled the shrine, shaking the ground beneath her feet. The symbols on the walls flared to life, bathing the room in a dark crimson glow.

Then, the voice came.

“You dare seek the path of the Forsaken?”

The voice was ancient, layered, as if multiple voices were speaking at once.

Akari took a step back, gripping her sword tighter. Her wolves snarled, their fur bristling as shadows coiled around the shrine’s walls.

A shape began to form—a figure, shrouded in darkness, its eyes glowing like embers.

A Guardian.

Or perhaps, a remnant of something far worse.

> New Challenge Unlocked: Trial of the Forsaken

Defeat the Guardian to claim the Cultivation Manual.

Akari exhaled slowly.

Of course, it wouldn’t be that easy.

She lowered her stance, the Forsaken Blade humming faintly in her grasp.

If this was the first real step on her path to power…

Then she’d cut through anything that stood in her way.
